As a GS employee in regards to the DS games, I'd say about 90% of our trade ins from customers don't include their cases. Most people either bring them as cartridges in a travel case, or they just bring them as a handful of games. It's definitely the most frustrating system to try and collect for as a game collector. PS3 and 360 games are a 50/50 in regards to getting a real case versus the fake ones we print out
But then when games came in with the cases we were instructed to throw the cases out because the planogram had nowhere to put DS games except for the small locked glass case that only had room for the now infamous clam shells.
I collected almost 200 empty DS cases between 2018 and 2019 from trade-ins and donated them to Pink Gorilla in Seattle.
@@MSUHitman I suppose it would depend on store then. Back when we had a dedicated section for the console and could have cases on the wall both DS and 3DS. The cartridges were gutted and put in the drawer. Once they removed them from the wall and we kept them behind glass, my store would always display the valuable games. And then keep the extras in a drawer (like what we do with PS3/360 now). If a customer came in looking for DS games, we'd print them a list of our inventory.
Since 2019, I feel as though I've only seen a handful of cases traded in with their game. I'd feel terrible throwing away game boxes outright. I'm glad you could donate the ones you saved. As a collector, I've resorted to some mom and pop retro stores and occasionally ebay for my collecting of DS/3DS games
I shamelessly use to dumpster dive my nearby Gamestop 7+ years ago and what I would get everytime i went were empty cases. I still have em in my shed which include 50+ 3ds game cases with manuals. I'm glad i kept them all this time because now people will pay just for the case and manual.. lmao
@Jaxson Shoemaker How do you like working at GS?
I’m glad you said this because I felt attacked for throwing out my DS cases lol
It made no sense to me as a kid to keep them when I had all my games stored in a travel bag. I am sorry to all collectors getting my caseless DS games now!
I been on a physical media kick lately with my music, movies and games I love my pc but forgot how rewarding it feels to actually own things
Hell yeah !
exact same man, I've been picking up 3ds and ds games again and it feels great to have a more bolstered game collection that isn't just the few switch cases.
Owning them physically is the best
Definitely satisfied with getting it especially with it basically being new and having the physical copy just makes it better
Yeah, I’m not with you at all. I have relished not being so tied down with physical possessions. It’s like the saying from Fight Club goes “the things you own end up owning you”.
Gamestop should absolutely be a RetroGameStop. I needed to get a DualShock 3 controller to play the Metal Gear series, my local gamestop didn't have one, neither did the city over. Bought a fake one online, returned it and bought one from an old friend.
By the way - they did you so dirty on the Legacy collection. I luckily got a new sealed copy from amazon.
@David!? it was weird but familiar for me. Haven't held a DS5 but out of DS4 and 360/xone I think DS3 is the best, for my use personally.
@@itsoldtyde Strange, I used all of them and DS3 is easily the worst. DS4 is my favourite
Use that PS5 controller on your PS3.
My PS3 controller got drift so I bought a Genuine Used one from eBay for 20$. Deep Cleaned it and it was basically brand new
Seen a few comments on these and want to echo the sentiment: it'd be really cool to see a video of a haul from a small / local game shop to see what you can find. Or maybe an interview with a small / local shop owner on the retro game market.
This series is addicting. I’m thrilled to see he keeps spending more and more each time
Printout manuals, missing disks, no DS boxes. Truly the most tragic episode yet.
Lmao
GTA 4 was seriously ahead of its time. It’s really blurry on FPS boost but it is still great to play in 60 FPS. The physics are still the best to date for GTA
It's crazy how much difference a few years makes for the video game market. It was only about 5 years ago that I was able to get stuff like Shadow Hearts, Xenosaga, Silent Hill Shattered Memories (PS2), and Kuon for around 10-15 bucks each. Now you would be lucky to get just the box and manual for a decent price.
Its crazy to think there was ever a time where retro gaming was a budget friendly hobby. The DS and Wii games being so pricey hit especially hard for me. Games that sold millions of copies less than two decades ago are selling for close to or higher than retail now.
@@segasonic23 What's stupid is how they have the audacity to sell pokemon for high prices. It's literally one of the biggest franchises in the world there's copies everywhere
@@lolcat Literally some of the best selling games on the DS which sold over 100 million. The prices are all artificially increased
It’s because of these RUclipsrs hyping games with their pretentious video essays.
None of those games were 10-15 dollars 5 years ago man. No chance, not at all. Not those ones.
Man the 007 reloaded box had me dying fr🤣🤣💀
Something to note about blue label ps3 games, Drakengard 3 and Spiderman weren't the only games to get it. Around the time of the PS4's launch PS3 boxarts were changed to match the color of the PS4's branding at that time from late 2013 to around the end of 2014. Other games with the blue label include Gran Turismo 6, MLB the show 14, Murdered Soul Suspect and a bunch more.
GTA 4 had a weird arc, It went from being criminally over rated to criminally under rated
For Metal Gear Solid the Legacy Collection I'd say get your money back and buy it brand new on Amazon for $40. Just picked it up myself and it was still sealed with everything. Definitely worth every dollar I payed!👍🏻
I paid 30 for a new one a month ago and the ps1 classic codes are still active too. crazy
The version with the slip cover and artbook is the best.
$40 for a sealed copy is good considering that game stop is selling a used copy for $30 to get it brand new for $10 more is definitely worth it nice find.
@@finloq2758 that's fucking sick!
After a few months of subscribing [edit:to MrMattyPlays] I was finally suggested a retro rebound vid. Subbed! I hardly even play games anymore and haven’t owned an Xbox since 360 but always keep up w your Xbox news 😂 appreciate you MrMatty
Retro couldn’t handle Roman saying “Let’s go bowling!”
Yeeeees The only unboxing videos I enjoy. Thanks dude. I needed this today.
Andddd you're first 🤣
These videos are really fun to watch Matty, keep up the great content man.
The golden eye 360 print out was pure gold! Love the content Matty!
Hey Matty instead of doing GameStop videos. Why don’t you do videos about local game stores in your area.
I've been into these lately. Thank you! I haven't watched it fully yet but I love these. Please keep the videos coming. These are great unboxings to watch because of the detail you go into about each game. Can't wait to see the others in action. Thanks man!
Babe, wake up, another Retro Rebound video just dropped
I don't have a grudge with Gamestop, they've come through for me in the past. That said, if you paid the CIB price for them they should arrive CIB. If you paid loose price & got that...fair play.
When's the most relatable collecting video coming? As in "I spent another $200 on shelving and still don't have enough space for all the games"
I used to work for GameStop and when people would bring in DS games with the case, we’d toss the case because we would displayed the games in a giant glass case instead. So stupid if you ask me. I can’t tell you how many cases we threw out. Rip.
Years ago when I worked at Gamestop I'd say more than half the time the customer would trade in DS games without the box. And the few that did have the box were usually disgusting. You could tell it was some kid who had his sticky hands all over or spilled his juice on it etc. We would keep the boxes if they were in at least decent shape, but that was a very low amount
That $200 could've been used to buy...1 gallon of gas.
MGS1 isn’t on the disc for the legacy edition sadly. It’s the reason I didn’t bother to pick it up. It included a download(unless some actually do have it on disc after complaints or something)
Idk if anyone has said this before. But as a former GS employee we were actually told to throw away DS cases when we would get trade-ins in order to save space in the drawers we stored them in. "no one cares about the cases anyways".
That was an atrocious lot, all said and done....jesus.
Sly cooper brought me here, now I'm a new subscriber, love the content on this channel and the videos on Last Stand Media. Keep it up
This unboxings are fun, I thought I was the only one that was that picky on the cases and cover art, that legacy collection case almost made me threw up, I have that one brand new and sealed, if you would like mine copy let me know
This channel is BINGE worthy man. Gonna watch all ur stuff now lol dope vid man
That last one would have had me crestfallen lol.
I bought a lot of PS3 games from GameStop about a year ago. I’m not joking when I say this, half of them arrived water damaged and the other half were sequels to the games I actually ordered.
You’re going to love gta 4 and the dlc
You can take the stuff you aren't happy with back to any GameStop location and they'll refund you. When I was spinning the GameStop roulette I ended up taking a lot of it back which at least made it a lot less painful.
Great video once again. Please keep it up!
In a year and a half, Matty is going to spend $1000 on Gamestop items. Oh how torturous this series must be for him.
Theres actually quite a few blue label PS3 games, i went and collected all of them before people figured it out lol. For some reason Sony switched the PS3 games to look like PS4 and people got confused and complained so they went back to the black. So only a handful of games got the blue label.
These are some of my favorite videos! Awesome
That metal gear solid legacy collection is a dagger if I’ve ever seen one. Absolutely dreadful, you have my condolences.
Yay i love these videos. Thanks for doing these, there so entertaining. Keep up the great work Matty
I used to buy used Wii games from GameStop And there was only 1 time where I got a GameStop case, it was Mario Strikers Charged. Most of the time when I got them they didn’t have a sticker or anything on them and they even had the manual, AND THEY WERE LIKE 12 BUCKS CUZ THEY WERE USED
These videos are the best 😂 ended with a banger there lol
I love these videos..... Its like watching a card game pack opening only theres a 20% chance of getting a normal card, a 30% chance of getting a card that was chewed by a dog beforehand, a 40% chance of a faded ink printing and a 10% chance of literal rubbish in the shape of a card. 😂.
I love this gamestop lootboxes videos.
Also never played GTAIV more than 2 hours.
Excited for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 video.
Matty loves his air horns 😂
Nice video! But ouch, that MGS Legacy! Disc 1 just contains MGS 4, disc 2 contains Peace Walker, 2 and 3 (also known as the MGS HD Collection). All the rest of the games are on a download voucher unfortunately.
Blue Label PS3 games there are a total of 14 released (not including variants).
I was told by my friend who is a GameStop manager that she has been instructed by her boss to throw out all 3ds & ds cases. That they take up too much space.
It's like watching someone dig up either buried treasure or fossilized poop
9:00 in this clip, the dude who made this is peacefully resting in the sky, rip yeardley diamond 🙏
GTA IV has SOUL
“I went bowling and it was wack” lol
I've actually gotten pretty lucky with Gamestop lately. Bayonetta 2, Kaze & The Wild Masks, and LittleBIGPlanet Karting all online ordered, all CIB.
I’m sorry I just can’t with that sheet you hang up behind you…🤣
I feel like people take their games for handhelds in some sort of carrying case and probably end up throwing out the cases.
Gamestop throws away cases and boxes, it isn't just the trade in customers. It saves a ton on storage space, and space is money. Also even though it's an online order, you can go into a store for a return on the MGS game.
i work at gamestop. they cant guarantee a case or the manual or anything because we just take whatever is traded in. those ds clamshells are only if the customer trades it w/o the case. we dont even carry the proper cases for them. hence why its called preowned. we cant control what the customer trades in
You're lucky you got a print out and a case. They usually send my games in dvd slips no matter what system they're from, when I order used.
When i worked at gamestop the made us throw away the case and manuals of DS games. We only displayed them in the glass cases anyway so they didnt care. When i became manager i started saving everything for the customers but a lot of the customers didnt bring them in anyway
Love these videos Matty!
Woohoo! Love these videos! Can’t wait to see what you got and the ratio ha ha
The luck I get with GameStop online is pretty insane lol. Just off the top of my head ive gotten cib soul silver, trails of cold steel 1-2, Metroid prime trilogy, Mario party 6 and vita games in cases
worked for several years as a store manager/ Leader (they couldnt make up their minds on what to call us xD) All youre doing is buying it online and it ships from the closest gamestop store that has the inventory. Only rarely are you getting anything from actual warehouse.
Matty, you should really play that GTA 4 also as the 2 Dlcs, it is great and it just works.
For me that is clearly the best game of the GTA series and i will be so glad to see a "i have finally played GTA 4 on this channel"
As far as PS3 Blue Labels go the ones that I can think of off the top of my head are Rambo, Drakengard, Murdered: Soul Suspect, and Amazing Spider-Man 2. I’m pretty sure that there are more than that as well.
Back in 2019 I got a Genesis with about 5 games from Gamestop and it was honestly a pretty great experience. The prices were decent, everything worked fine, and it was packaged well. My only gripe is some less than beautiful labels but thats fine. I'm just upset that specialty stores have been closing. Toys R Us, Gamestop, even Radio Shack. Not to mention the decline of malls. Very sad to see all around.
Would love to see a video on your whole collection of games
He looks like Remus Lupin from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
LMDHO!
10 years ago my parents got me a small case for all my ds games because the cases took up so much space. Ended up throwing all the cases away. I regret it today but back then it saved so much space
They use to sell game sleeves/carrying cases for the DS games! That’s why they wouldn’t keep the box.
i remember mystic doing a video where he bought used games from amazon. might be a fun video
My last online GameStop purchase was on their 4 for $20 deal. Only 4/11 had original case I returned 5 of those without original artwork.
Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man. That’s why it’s blue label. It’s also why it was so hard to get Spider-Man in the MCU.
Thank God for Gameboy and DS flash carts. I hope someday someone makes one that works on the Switch. The Virtual Boy got one, which is really cool.
Yeah I used to work at Gamestop and we had to throw the cases out when traded in to "save space" i saved a lot to say the least lol.
OK the intro video beat was fire
no one gonna talk about how he isnt mad about gamestops stickers ruining the collection
I use sports games as replacement case fodder. For PS1 games I go to goodwill and pick up sealed cds to use their cases.
the reason DS games don't have cases is because Gamestop throws them out due to space. A few Gamstops will keep the cases if they have space. but most toss them out. DS and 3DS your odds of getting a case is like 10%.
These videos are addicting
I’m addicted to this channel lol
Yeah back then I threw out all of my 360 and DS cases. I'd just throw the DS games in a travel case and the 360 discs in a CD binder
Never understood the obsession with manuals. Not like you’re going to read them and 95% of times it contains no artwork.
They're part of the complete package and give the case extra weight making them feel more premium.
They're essentially part of the game without being part of the software itself.
@@anabang1251 do you play the manual or the game?!?
@@Jgor215 You play the software on the CD
@@anabang1251 ok then shut up about manuals.
You can't blame GameStop for the no original cases and manuals. It just depends on how the person traded their games in.
I used to put them all in a DS suitcase. so, yeah, you're welcome for throwing away the boxes
Bad luck overall matty. Next time will be amazing when the karma fairy comes to visit you and you bag all CIB games like 100% no copium needed other than to 420 afterwards xx
For the DS/3DS cases, I think it’s actually GameStop who threw out the cases. It’s likely they were traded in CIB, but to save space, GS would trash all the cases and manuals and then out the game cards in glass display cases. Truly heartbreaking…
I'm kinda glad they went bankrupt here in Denmark...
Sometimes. But people also throw them out and/or lose them. I’ve thrown out boxes before. And a lot of people just don’t give a shit about packaging.
I second this comment. I used to work at GameStop during the end of the DS/3DS lifecycle, that I was told to only keep the cartridge and throw away the boxes.
I would try to save the ones that seem to be rare and worthwhile.
@@leeartlee915 yes, some kids and people don't care for the box but it's definitely more than sometimes with GameStop. I remember when they started doing the Great DS BOX Purge. I immediately told my local GameStop to put them on the side for me to pick up, glad they hooked me up.
@@SoulProphet you and the people I know are the true MVPs to the collector market
Actually scamming their customers with that MGS Legacy disc!
The reality of this is most people buying from GS don't care about CIB. Also about 90% of current DS/3DS don't have a case when traded in.
At least it ended on a high note😂🤣😂
Even though times are tough for most folks this is a fantastic way to spend 200 dollars, they say gimmie shelter, I say gimmie games bro, followed by a serious salute
CiB…. God, I’m still amazed what people find important.
Ring of the Hawk intro song. Marky D won't be happy
I'm sorry for your rough pull, but it was very entertaining! 😅
This is why you don't buy retro games from gamestop unless you're personally at the store. I always buy from ebay, from a reputable seller and haven't gotten burned once.
Definitely don’t want GameStop to get more into the retro market. Could potentially harm the smaller retro game stores.
I used to throw my DS cases in my toy bin or closet and had a DS case I kept the games in. I assume most people did that with handhelds.
Problem is with old ds games, I worked at GameStop and they would make us throw away the cases on used ones and put the cartridges in those crappy sleeves to “save space”
4:00 remember to use your "AIMS"
I think GameStop just throws all the DS 3DS boxes out when they get them. I mean, their showcase for the games are meant to show the cartridge only…
The ending of the game is only on disc for WiiU (007 legends)
Gamestop needs to do exactly what you said, rather than letting stores like DK Oldies hoard old CIB games and retro consoles and mark them up for ridiculous prices. Real gamers deserve this stuff!
