When I was in primary school in the early 80’s, we had the chance to sign up for international pen pals (I’m in Australia). I had a Japanese girl that we were pen pals for many years. She would often send me cute stationery items from Japan. It was so much fun to see the difference in supplies they had. The attention to detail in Japanese made art supplies & stationery is awesome. You have a lovely friend 🫶🇦🇺
What a lovely gift. It looks like your friend put some thought into it and sent you things that can’t be found unless you visit Japan. How fun! Looking forward to seeing what you create!
My local art store gets a lot of Japanese supplies in and I love the Pasta sticks. During the pandemic I’d send them $150 or something and the store owner would put together a surprise box for me and drop it at my house. Found a lot of Japanese supplies I’ve come to love. What a cool box your friend made for you.
@@sonyaoart - I wasn’t sure I made good choices until I watched the unboxing along with everyone else. It’s only been a few years that I started following her, but I go back and watch her old videos, even for things I don’t do like card making and collage. I guess my memory served me well in picking things she didn’t have as well as things like the papers she could use for card making and multimedia projects.
What wonderful gifts, Lindsay! Even the boxes are cheery and super cute! Thank you for letting us share your Japanese goodies from your nice friend Michelle. 😊
Wow, such a generous gift box. Every Saturday we would visit a Japanese stationery and gift store after my Mom got our Japanese groceries. Definitely something different about the quality of their products. Have fun playing with your new supply. Thank you for sharing your unboxing.
My brother-in-law went to Japan recently and picked up a Pilot flex-point fountain pen at my request, as it saved me a ton of money. It came from Itoya in Tokyo and was the most amazingly wrapped thing I've ever seen!
Every time I think of Michelle I see that smile and grin and look on her face as that train pulled away from all of us sitting there by the steps going down to the Toulouse Letrec Museum in Alba . The girls had been practicing their dance and baton in the courtyard by the church. We were laughing so hard. 😂😂😂 Great Haul Michelle.
Incredibly generous and gorgeous gifts! I think the magnets inside the small pretty cute palette are for adhering to something ( like a board ) if you are doing plein air painting? IMHO
Ok,all done and it just got better and better! How much FUN was that?? What a thoughtful friend. Can’t wait to see what percolates in your mind for these items 😊
I believe Holbein paint is very affordable over in Japan. I know Dr. Oto Kano said the small tubes were on sale (this was a few years ago) for around, I thought she said, a dollar each? Not sure if that's correct, but much cheaper than what we can buy them for here. What a fun surprise. Thanks Michelle and thanks Lindsay for sharing.
Super fun unboxing! I love Japanese art supplies and haven’t seen these Pastas or crayons before. I’m envisioning the crayons used over watercolors as a resist between layers. What a lovely gift and friend!
Hullo Lindsay, I am so glad that you have been blessed with such a giving friend! So many wonderful things! I hope you create a palette for the Holbein watercolors and use the block of paper she sent as well! I think the magnets from the palette have the sticky surface to allow you to use magnets to hold items to the palette. You could use any of these amazing supplies and create some amazing artworks! See ya next video!
Lindsay I am begging you for a long format video on those Holbein watercolors they look so cute! Thanks for sharing the unboxing of all these amazing goodies with us ❤
That was so fun watch you get one surprise after another. ❤ Michelle is a keeper. 🎉 I would love to see you use all of the paints and crayons for sure.
How awesome! I love Japanese products! I've pretty much stopped watching haul vids because they are too tempting for my 2025 low-buy, but I can never pass up a Japanese haul. What a treat!
One thing I used to do is origami used for gift wrapping ornaments. The really tiny paper is very useful. The paper is tough enough to glue to a cardboard box to make a pretty and reusable gift box. I think the magnets are for a water cup. If it’s silicone or plastic, you tape one magnet on the cup and tape one magnet on the box.
I love your unboxing videos!! It's a lot like Christmas! And I do have an addiction to art supplies and stationery, but trying not to buy, so thank you for sharing with us! Maybe the magnets on the plastic pallet are for sticking on there and holding a metal cup for water 🤷♀️
I think you can probably glue the metal disks on the palette and stick on some sort of magnetic mount? They look like what I glue onto my phone case so it can be put onto my magnetic car phone holder. What a lovely gift box! I love that she totally knew and gave you fresh sheets of the wrapping paper! 😂
Lindsay was correct on people keeping the labels. The artwork on the box and tubes are a limited edition that Holbein collaborates with Japanese artist.
@ - Sekaido Shinjuku, Uematsu Art Supply and Tokyo pigments. Remember that Holbein, although the most notable to many of us , is just one of many Japanese produced products. Don’t overlook Pilot, Sailor, etc. Japan values and teaches many forms of art starting in early child development programs, and continuing throughout the entire education experience. Watercolor, calligraphy, drawing, etc is formally taught so there are many art supply offerings in common stores and malls like AEON mail. The stores carry not only Japanese art supplies but the high end imports like Daniel Smith , Winsor Newton , etc. that one has to go to a specialty shop to obtain in the USA.
@ amazing! I have a big want list. Holbein is not readily available here in Canada so on the top of my list. I have a Sailor fude pen and would love another one and their permanent ink. Sakura microliners… some pots of gansai paints… travelers factory items… stamps… washi tape…LOL. I have a budget and I must stick to it!
Very exciting fun gifts! Have you heard of jet pens? I order from them every once in awhile. They are about one hour north from me in San Jose ca. they are an online store with Japan stationary and art supplies. I can’t say that they have the items you received but they do have fun stuff.
Wow!!! The circular magnets on the palette might be to put on the back so you can magnetically stick the palette to something metal whilst you use it, perhaps …
My questions for you Lindsay are these; QUESTION; What pale, whimsical work could you do with the two boxes of crayons? Adding a medium to glaze them like water perhaps? Those pastas look fun for people with sensory issues who might not like getting their hands dirty. I wonder how much crayon is in there...hmmm QUESTION: I love my Neocolor 2's, what is the feel of these, & do they wear down quickly like Neocolor 2? (I don't know what a gelato or distress crayon feels like.) My reason to purchase these would be that they would have a similar feel, less weardown, and don't break! The Pasta are a water soulble gel marker.
Hi there!!! An idea for the paint tubes. When empty, you can make them like really flat AND display them in a Shadow box or a frame
Lindsay was correct on people keeping the labels. The artwork on the box and tubes are a limited edition that Holbein collaborates with Japanese artist.
Well, Lindsey, I need friends like yours. That’s a big box. Very cool.
What a lovely gift! Thank you for sharing! I love the Pasta Pens!
What fun. Thanks for sharing.
Are the magnets on the watercolor palette so you can use it for Plein air and attach it to a magnetic clip? So it's hands free?
Ohhh! I LOVED this video!! Please, Lindsay, pan out those Holbein colors and swatch them! Show us what you will do with the “arty” tubes! Thank you!!
I wonder where she bought the Holbein set from? Will be heading to Japan soon and would love to find it
I was in a small art shop in Tokyo. There are large chains as well as small family owned shops. I try to patronize small businesses.
