  • Introducing those SMD RGBs and making a cool matrix out of them..
    Well, just the first one!
    Adafruit Libraries:
    NeoPixel: github.com/ada...
    NeoMatrix: github.com/ada...
    Finally, improved the design flaws and got some more of them boards printed! They are available here:
    www.ebay.com/i...
    You can buy your stuff there:
    ( Buying through those get's me a commission and probably a buck or two. Of course I'm not expecting of you shopping all your stuff here, but in case you dont have a place in mind, you can find yourself some pretty good deals here actually!)
    -WS2812B LEDs (just like the ones I 'm using in the video)
    rover.ebay.com...
    -LED strips of those
    rover.ebay.com...
    -Arduino UNO (clone)
    rover.ebay.com...
    -Solder Paste
    rover.ebay.com...
    Until next time,
    thanks for watching!
    And if you like what you see, fell free to subscribe.
    More coming up!
    And if you like it too much and wanna help making it even better??

    why not making 100x100
    it is cheaper to buy leds on large flexible sheets (not stripes) and just connect them

      I was shooting for something dense! Thats all!

      10k leds is way too much for an arduino to handle. Some 10 times too much.

    Hello Zep! Great video!
    Have a question about the resistors, I've seen many (if not all) of WS2812B being used with individual resistors in each led, you didn't used any resistors there right? Is there a kind of ws2812 that needs an other that dont? Or why is this? Because if I can use them without the resistors would be much easy to do a custom pcb like you did : )

    • @ZepLabs
      @ZepLabs  6 лет назад +1

      artesalve Hey buddy! Thanks a lot. I don’t know something about resistors to be honest! I think it is suggested to use one per data line, just before your first pixel, and thats all!
      Then there’s the capacitors...In theory you need one for each pixel. You can work without them, but it’s wise to use them! My first pcb was made with one capacitor for each Led (on the back side) but I never bothered soldering all those 😄 So eventually I modified the board to take just one capacitor ( 1 for 196 LEDs, can’t remember the exact value right now..) and it’s working like a charm! Think of it as something to stabilize the voltage, a ups maybe..You can use a big one, or you can use 196 tiny ones and run your computer in both cases! And it’s fairly easy to make one of those pcbs , yes!
      Cheers

    • @Skovjuul
      @Skovjuul 6 лет назад +1

      In my experience, you can do with just one at the beginning of the string. And probably a small resistor on the dataline just to be on the safe side.

    • @ZepLabs
      @ZepLabs  6 лет назад +2

      Jose Baars The freaking persistence of them datasheets! I believe they are more forgiving than other LEDs (cause of the chipset "regulating" the voltage inside there) but they still could use that capacitor! Just skipped them for now...thanks Jose!

    why aren't capacitors used on the 5v line near the leds?

    • @ZepLabs
      @ZepLabs  5 лет назад

      Cause you dont need them as badly as they let you think! And beacause this one wasnt finished yet!
      Don't get me wrong, they sure have a purpose to serve, but you can run those thingys without any ( for guite some time actually) and be golden!
      As you may see on other videos of this project, I ended up using a bigger cap for each one of those boards.
      Cheers bud!

      @ZepLabs  5 лет назад

      Hey George! I have some of them available as a matter of fact. Sold 2 or 3 of those but after that they werent moving so much. So I never relisted them! I guess most people dont wanna solder the LEDs themselves ( personaly I quite enjoy that, but I can't blame them!)
      So I have some thoughts on putting out some already assembled of them boards, but between a ton of different projects I cannot tell when this is gonna be!
      If you still have some interest on the board , let me know and I 'll relist it!

    Hi, I've one silly questions. Did you use any capacitors in your board ?
    I guess the 4x4 board you provided have capacitors in it but your board doesn't seem to have that.

    • @ZepLabs
      @ZepLabs  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Hasan! Not silly at all my friend...
      Actually you are right. According to the datasheet of those thingys you are supossed to use a 0.1 uF capacitor for each one of them. Which I always found a bit annoying!
      In fact it is wise indeed to use a capacitor. On the larger display I made I used one for each board (196 LEDs) and I believe it was 25uF. But then again, it's not a necessity I guess. I have also made an RGB studio light using one of those boards(without a capacitor), which I have used for countless hours since, and is still working like a charm!
      Cheers

      @@ZepLabs Thank you so much. One last question, what could be the best solution to light up the 10x10 panel without using power supply ?

    • @ZepLabs
      @ZepLabs  5 лет назад +1

      Iqramul Hasan that’s a tricky one!
      Well they use power to light up, and you have to supply that... So at any case, if they are lit, you are using a power supply of some sort! 5V
      If you don’t have one arround, you could use an old computer’s power supply. They also have a 5V line ( just check the amperage. We are looking at 3-5 Amps at full brightness white!)
      You could also use whatever power supply you have on hand, and use a stepdown circuit (DC-DC converter) to get it down to 5V. An average laptop PS unit can do 2 Amps at around 20V . Should be more than enough when dropped down to 5! Just make sure your stepdown can put out 5 amps!

    • @iqramulhasan1217
      @iqramulhasan1217 5 лет назад

      Actually what I mean is I don't want to use those dedicated 5V power supply or computer's power supply because that needs AC voltage. I want to make it portable. Like I want power that using any powerbank which charges our phones but not using those external power supply which you're talking.
      Is it possible to powerup 10x10 board using powerbank ?

    • @SteampunkSammy
      @SteampunkSammy 5 лет назад

      @@iqramulhasan1217 Yes, some libraries even support you setting a limit to their amp draw from the software side.
      I recommend the FastLED Library for this.
      If your library cant limit the max current, then calculate it yourself, and make your own limits to not go over your 2.4a (or w/e) rating of your powerbank :)
