Ryu feels so insanely rewarding to play in this game- there are very few moves that feel like they don't have a purpose or are only meant for one specific thing. That said though: oh my lord why did DP'ing become such a chore? Was I just not noticing how ineffective shoryukens were in the other games? Hitting enemies who jump in at me with it feels like trying to grab a greased pig!
i completely agree man. plus with the dp thing i think its because of how specific all of the dps feel. like the light version is super close then medium very central and the heavy very far. i think its just the lack of an easy 1 button answer.

Street fighter, like most 2d fighters, has a mechanic called scaling, where the longer a combo goes on, the less each move does. In addition to that, this game also has scaling on perfect parries, so that the following hits do significantly reduced damage.
@@dreamomega In sf6, parrying often nerfs the following damage, because scaling for combos is much greater when a string comes from a “safer” option, such as off of a jab or a parry rather than a heavy or DI. This is why often when I see a player land a perfect parry, they almost always grab out of it, so the parry scaling only affects the grab rather than a full combo.

Ryu's lightning install is actually great for big damage combos, you can get it pretty safely in some situations.
From what I understand, it helps in the guile matchup.
