Lt. John Lorimer Worden’s first Civil War assignment was to deliver secret messages to the Federal fleet off Pensacola, Florida. His actions helped to save Ft. Pickens for the Union; however, it resulted in Worden being captured. This action made him the war’s first prisoner of war, and he was not exchanged until November 1862.

Wasn't US Army Lt Hardiman S Putnam with USN Lt John Worden on this mission? Putnam was held in Montgomery under the same orders from CSA AG Benjamin but was released in a negotiation of some description.
