Wow, that's really impressive! 12 items in 3 minutes may not sound like a lot, but then you watch the video and see how fast he identifies each individual object! Very well done to all three of you.
@@swidr5626 i always squirm when they "hat" him... i don't think he likes it! of course this seems to be Apollo's biggest tribulation in life, so i guess he and i can both deal with it.
Just heard this on the radio.. all I heard was that you had been given an award and they even played a clip of Apollo saying his signature "GLASS"! Congratulations to you all! 👍
Not to downplay Apollo or his owners because this is still really cool, but doesn’t the Guinness WRs have a lot of specific achievements that aren’t as contested? I remember hearing that from somewhere but I don’t know how true that is. Regardless I’m still proud of them all ^_^
@@agentblackbird9435 Yes, same. They actually just accept ideas for anything someone wants to make a record for. Apollo certainly deserves recognition and awards for his fantastic skills though. I'm so damn happy to google and read that Apollo is apparently only the second animal on record to actually understand and (mostly) fluently speak, not just mimicking, but understanding and having legitimate conversations.
@@agemoth Gizmo is amazing and could probably win awards in his own right. I don't know if he would identify things in exactly the same way, but he's certainly conversational and understands so much, too. Both birdies are awesome!!!
The fact that he understands putting something over the head is "hat" whether it's his head or someone else's is extraordinary. Clear demonstration of self-awareness.
African Greys are so far the only other animal to ask a question about themselves. That said they don’t prioritize like us and they don’t quite sense the world the same way as us with them being visual, acoustic versus us being tactile, visual in out primary and secondary senses. Something telling with the way he flubbed ball and block but not visually distinct items like bugs, books, or plants. A comparable toddler by comparison would likely do significantly better at distinct shaped objects but struggle less with abstracts like book vs plant.
The news that Apollo is officially a Guinness World Records title holder has spread rapidly across the world! I, who lives in Brunswick, Germany (Braunschweig, Deutschland), also send my warmest congratulations! May Apollo continue to bring joy and pleasure to his family and friends around the world for many years to come. 👍🍀🍀😘😘🍀🍀👍
I love how Apollo won a Guinness world record, a feat most of us will never ever accomplish, and instead of acknowledging it he just wants a pistachio. What a based bird.
Congratulations Apollo! And thank you Tori and Dalton for showing the world how amazing birds are. I had to have one of my birds put down yesterday and part with the other one (though he's with a great group in a huge indoor/outdoor aviary now) so this made me very emotional. So happy for you 💜
I just heard this on the 4pm news in the UK. Always knew he was destined for a WR! Well done Apollo and well done Dalton and Tori for your time, effort and patience with our amazing grey birb.
@Kriskirby1992 this made me tear up a bit. I followed Alex before and after, and I'd never been so upset by the passing of a bird online. I loved Alex the Honking Bird.
I live with an African Grey named Ozzie and he's 10 years old. He knows at least 5 objects very well and I showed this video to his owner and she said she thinks with a little motivation we could give Apollo a little competition in the future. Parrots are very clever, he mimics laughs, sneezes, and coughing almost perfectly. When it's raining he will say "Thunderstorm" and he he likes to say " Wanna birdbath" when he wants to spash around. I'm just amazed at his vocabulary because he knows a ton of words and phrases. My favorite is "Wash your dirty hairs!"

Congratulations to Apollo and family. What a great performance. Apollo the great. Also I just saw on the channel called Barney the west coast cockatoo the neatest thing. They had Barney listen to the kookaburras call. He was so mesmerized and then he tried to imitate the calls. I thought that might be interesting to see how Apollo may react and if he would imitate the call. Just an idea to use if you wanted to try something different. I know that might not be part of his curriculum but it could be fun.
OMG yay!! I am so proud of all three of you for achieving this accomplishment!! You guys are the best birdie parents ever and I truly look forward to seeing his continued progression over the years! I hope you guys plan on writing a few books! 💓💗❤️
