I fortunate to call Rex Jr. a friend. I've lived in Arizona since I was 10 years old. I've moved around the country several times for employment, but ALWAYS, ALWAYS have come home to this beloved state !!!
Such an amazing singer and song! I was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona and I'm so proud to call this beautiful state my home. No matter where life ends up taking me, Arizona will always be in my heart! I LOVE YOU ARIZONA!!
Privileged to meet and hear Mr. Allen, I believe in 2005, in Gunnison, CO. He was a friend of the RV park's owner and we were treated (for a small cost) to a concert after a steak dinner, where we heard this song for the first time. He sang and told stories of his younger days, his dad and performers like Sons of the Pioneers. One of the best evenings of my 80 years, wish I could do it all over again. At hat time he was hopeful this song would be chosen as the official Arizona State song. A real class act!
I wonder if Rex Allen Jr. still comes down to Wilcox for Rex Allen days? We saw him perform once here in Tucson at a place called CCC Chuck Wagon. That was fun. Before that mom and dad ended up standing behind Rex Jr. and Sr. at a grocery store here in town. Would have been fun to meet Sr. too.
I wish more than everything that I had seen this great man while he was alive but it never worked out! Thank you for this video of his performance, it's the next best thing.

I remember the Sons of the Pioneers: I attended one of their musical evenings long ago, west of the Tucson Mountains. How time has flown.

This was the theme song used by KPNX in its sign off during the mid 1980s. I'd give anything to see that once more.
