    That is the biggest problem and why I'm seeing if I can change. Driving is impractical with the scleral lens as it's unpredictable, it could go hours or even minutes before it fogs up, even with a perfect fit.
    The material of my lens is "Optimum Infinite" which apparently is known for not having good wettability but it's extremely thin and light and is easy to forget that I'm wearing it.
    Overall, even after mastering the art of the lens I find it too impractical.

    I've worn RGP lenses for many years and they're nearly perfect. With soft, I had blurred vision in one eye. RGP corrects that. As for the discomfort of RGP, yes, when I blink I could feel the lens bob up and down. It didn't hurt and wasn't irritating, but rather an annoying feeling of their bobbing up and down when I blinked. After several weeks of a break-in period, that sensation has completely disappeared!! It's mysterious as to why the sensation disappeared, but it has, totally! One time I lost a lens and had to order a new one. The replacement took about a week to arrive. I went back in to have it fitted and thought that it would be a snap, and everything would be just like before. It wasn't!!! There again was the annoying sensation of the lens bobbing up and down on my eye, and in ONLY the one eye with the replacement lens, if not MORE so. I was prepared for the experience the first time, being forewarned, but not the second time. So, I had to muster all my tolerance and endure a new break-in period. After several weeks, both eyes now have ZERO lens awareness, again. This is so mysterious that I've googled to find out whats going on. I still dont have a good explanation, but a couple of posts I saw seem to claim that it's associated with the lens permeability. In one post I read that this lens awareness is paradoxically more pronounced with High DK lenses, those which offer the Best oxygen permeability, and that with low DK lens the eye eventually experiences loss of sensitivity due to low oxygen levels. Is this true ?!? !! In fact, I wear Boston ES lenses which have low DK compared to most other RGP lenses. I can get about 12 hours of lens wear each day in perfect comfort without my eyes feeling like they are suffocating and I need to take them out so they can breath. One positive experience I had with Soft Lenses is that I wore Air Optix High DK Night & Day lenses and never had the feeling that my eyes are suffocating like with the Boston ES (at the end of the day) ...but sadly, the Soft lens had blurred vision in my right eye, and it couldn't be well fixed with soft torics. I'd like to try fitting with High DK RGP lenses but scared I'd always have the annoying lens awareness sensation. Is it true that you can't adapt perfectly to High DK RGP lenses like you can with Low DK RGP lenses?

      @markwiygul6356 Год назад +1

      @@almarhajdari5316 Not sure but that's a great question for your eye doctor. Have you tried soft contacts? I suppose the doc would want to make sure the rgp material has adequate oxygen permeability for a long day's wear. And, that no surface deposits, fogginess or oily residues are accumulating on the lenses causing strained eyesight to compensate, and therefore eye fatigue. And, if those aren't the culprits I would look into irregular astigmatisms causing the eye fatigue, as the eye(s) strain to compensate for irregular vision. The eye doc can probably do a cornea surface topology mapping to check for that. For me, I get tired eyes with soft contacts, particularly the right eye where I have blurry vision with soft lenses, but my hard contacts give me sharp vision, and I don't get that eye fatigue.

      I also wear the Boston ES lens. They offer greater protein deposit resistance and are more wettable. As the "DK" increases. the wetting factor diminishes and lens is more fragile, plus has more of a tendency to gain protein deposits. It is a myth that the cornea needs a "hyper DK" lens, the Boston ES lens provides plenty of oxygen. ( Generally a high DK lens is for a "plus prescription" that has a thicker center - most of us are myopes ). Perhaps your diameter is too large ( A current trend among fitters now ), or your eyes may simply feel dry and tired after the end of the day and you perceive that as "suffocation". The only other material I would recommend would be the Boston EO lens, it has similar characteristics of the ES - it is nearly as wettable and has a higher DK, But the optics are better with the Boston ES ( A better index of refraction ). I wore Fluoroperm lenses years ago and had to replace them every 3-4 months because of the protein deposits. My Dr. would tease me and state " I had "disposable gas perm lenses".. Another issue is, that when you receive a new replacement lens, clean it well with "Boston Original" cleaner, perhaps 5 times and rinse well. Those lenses come from the lab with polishing residue on them, which is irritating.. Ask you Doctor to have the lab "roll polish" the edges of your next lenses...

      @@nadah._.2807 Boston Simplus multi-action solution -- Soak your lenses in that overnight and it cleans and removes protein at the same time. I'm a firm believer in that product now. It use to be that I used a two-step approach, scrubbing my lenses with a cleaner, then soaking then lenses in a disinfecting-wetting solution. Beyond my wildest dreams, the Boston Simplus multi-action solution worked better than the two-step solutions, and is much easier. (I wear Boston ES small corneal lenses, no special coatings on them)

    Well, you know how dirt in your eye with rgp lense can put you to your knees...
    I have caritaconus and work in a dusty environment, so I wear soft lens under my hard lens. Been doing this for 25 to 30 years. It's the only way I can wear contacts and can't be fitted for glasses. They don't work. Maybe I can try the scleral lenses. My eyes get gooby easy so I'm afraid of the fogging possibility.

    On 3rd pair of RGP bi-toric lenses. 1st pair had 9.6mm diameter and current is 9.8mm. The right left movement has decreased but still moves on the eye. Sometimes when I blink, my vision stays blurry in the right or left eye for about 5-10 seconds before clearing. Is this normal? For all 3 sets of lenses, the optometrist said the fit was perfect, but I feel the fit is off. I tell him that , but he says he sees a perfect fit with the fluorescine dye. I have one more shot at another pair. Any input?

    • @1953childstar
      @1953childstar Год назад

      Bi-toric lenses as a rule, should not be that large in diameter. A steeper base curve may have been a better option. it would decrease excessive movement. Unless you have large irises or pupils, a 9.4 with a steeper base curve would have been my choice and lessened lens awareness..

      @@1953childstar this is good to know about the diameter. I was pushing the optometrist to try the 10mm ones but he wouldn’t go any larger. So far, I still have moments of blurring after an eye blink, and the feeling that something is in my eyes has decreased. Maybe in the future, I’ll try a smaller diameter. Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it.

    • @T2MARA

      I have keratoconus and I was originally using the small RGP lenses. I believe it was responsible for deteriorating vision/dry and itchy eyes/light sensitivity. It would feel like there was something irritating my eyes throughout the entire day and my eyes would be burning by the time I got home from work. I feel they were literally drying out my corneas and I started researching corneal transplants because that's where I thought I was headed. Eventually, my doctor switched me to scleral lenses and within months the issues disappeared. Scleral lenses allow your corneas to be bathed in saline/fake tears while the RGP sit directly on top of your cornea. I can't even tell they are in which means much better comfort throughout the day for me. I will never go back to RGP. The fogginess could be from debris from your tears or from other oils/mucus created by yours tears throughout the day. One suggestion I would make is to take out your scleral lenses in the evening, clean/add saline/reinsert and they will be as clear as they were first thing in the morning. You kind of have to think of them like regular glasses that sit directly on your eyeball. When eyeglasses get foggy, eyeglass wearers take them off, clean and/or shine them and put them back on. (Another suggestion: Sometimes you might not even have to take them out. They have drops for moisturizing and I find those will work to clear up the fogginess sometimes. Try Blink Dry Contacts Lubricating Eye Drops or Blink Dry Contacts Lens Drops.

      @@vikasv5473 My night vision is fine when its a normal night. Only when its dark and poor visibility due to rain/inclement weather do I have issues but I don't know if its due to the lenses or if its the same that a person with normal vision would experience. I've been wearing my scleral lenses for atleast 5 or more years. I remember having some issues with fogging and visibility in the beginning but I have found a lot of those issues stopped after I changed my nighttime soaking routine. I used to soak them in Boston Conditioning solution at night and would sometimes get fogginess after several hours of wearing but now I soak them in Clear Care overnight so I don't get any fogginess/visibility issues. I will use the Boston Conditioner only if my eyes feel extremely dry during the day so I'll take them out to clean/condition/add saline and then reinsert but overnight I only use Clear Care.

      Did you allow several weeks to adapt to the RGP lens? My experience with RGP totally changed from day 1 compared to after the adaption period. Also, did you have a poorer wearing experience with the eye that has the special condition, or were they nearly equal? It could be that a change in material, or going through a gentler adaption period (slowing buildup of wear time) might be helpful. And, psyching yourself up to be aware that they will be annoying for a few weeks, but to muster yourself to get through it anyway.. (like going to a gym for a workout, "no train no gain" mentality.. just tell yourself, "this is gym to build up my eyes for RGP" will get better)
