  • Drill/ screwdriver battery rebuild (repair) to 18650 lithium ion batteries.
    Parts:
    Battery holder for 18650 size batteries - bit.ly/2Pl998O
    3x Sony VTC4 18650 2100mAh 30A batteries
    BMS to control charge/ discharge - bit.ly/2zMGWgB
    Original charger can be used for charging.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    Converted old drill battery to lion 18650 elements. Decided to use battery holder for 3x 18650 elements to avoid spot welding of batteries. Added BMS to control charge/ discharge, so original charger cam be used for charging. Battery pack case was too small to fit battery holder with BMS, so front of case was cut off and then battery holder secured with electrical tape - not nicest solution but works well.

      I also have 24V Bosch cordless drill, but can't find any info on this. I tried to do it following the videos on 14,4V or 18V batteries, but I ended up in smoke. Can someone explain the Bosch battery connections please? Apart from + and - there is a T terminal and C terminal. How should they be connected please?

    Nice work..How thick are the wires to withstand the 30A? I read that suitable are 2.5mm, but I think yours are more thinner

      don't remember exact thickness - they were same thickness as wires going to motor

    Hello! I did everything just like you with the same batterys, but for some reason on 12.04 volt my drill dosen't spin up only if I help it with my hand. What could be the problem:?

      battery issue, u need a high drain 18650, 30A is gd enough
      then u should go for bms with operating current at least 25A

    Dude, I used 18650 Battery for the same drill. 18650 can be placed in the original battery box. 2 horizontal 1 vertical. Do not cut the battery pack. Use smaller size bms.
    Turkish translation
    (Dostum, aynı matkap için 18650 Batarya kullandım. 18650 orijinal pil kutusuna yerleştirilebilir. 2 yatay 1 dikey.

    Hi!
    I have same drill, and i do battery change like you except one thing.
    I held the original wiring on the connecting clips and a resistor on the head.
    It's working good, but if i pull fast the trigger completely, it doesnt start, but if i pull slowly, and i wait to chuck start rotating slowly, then i pull the trigger completely, it works.
    Do you have any idea how can i solve this problem?
    P.S. : My english isn't perfect, but i hope you will understood my problem

    • @garage1168
      @garage1168  6 лет назад +1

      +brave edy it should work if batteries have enough amps. As you have everything already, just put it together and try.
      p.s. But I probably would used 4 batteries for 12v drill.

    Isn't it harmfull for lithium cells to charge them by original ni-cd charger ?

    • @ortlu-ro9yn
      @ortlu-ro9yn 3 года назад

      Not if you use a BMS board to control the charge/recharge cycles as the video shows. The original charger only supplies voltage to the board.

    • @enginozkan7268
      @enginozkan7268 3 года назад

      @@ortlu-ro9yn it is said that makes the battery life shorter. There some videos transform ni-cd to lithium charger. BMS' are not charger, just protecter.

  • @chriswesley594

    It's a nice idea but it's not practical or safe because:
    - Laptop batteries typically have a max current or 2 amps - not suitable for power tools.
    - You have no cell balancing scheme, which makes it unsafe.
    - The high-current batteries which would be OK will cost you far more than a replacement drill.

    • @garage1168
      @garage1168  5 лет назад +2

      Yes, laptop batteries are not siutable for power toots, thats why I use sony vtc4 batteries (30A Max, 60A pulse). As bms is used, it controls charge/ discharge. Total cost was around 15EUR.
