i prefer using blue juice, it helps keep your valves clean and it woks really well for me, although its more on the expensive side you don't really need that much, but its about $8.50 and you don't have to re oil them very often
I prefer using AiSYN (high-performance synthetic) valve/slide/key oil. Only available in small quantities (0.5-1.0 fl. oz.), but you don't need a lot of the stuff (a couple of drops per valve). Works really well in tropical/humid clients. Only have to apply every 2-6 months (depending on the time of the year). As for slides, Vaseline works. Usually re-grease slides when the instrument is cleaned.
CrusadersRacing 0 Well then it depends upon what you might have in the garage or the house. If you’re looking valve oil you would need to have some kerosene and some marvels mystery oil. This is not a healthy mixture for anyone. Somewhere around two parts kerosene one part Marvel mystery oil. The bottom line is all the stuff is relatively toxic valve oil is much more safe. We’re talking about five or $10 worth of oil. I would highly recommend finding a way to make five or 10 bucks as opposed to trying to mix a potion that could kill you
Emily Sabon I try to borrow some which is not really borrowing it’s actually using somebody else’s oil but I would ask anyway. There’s not a substitute product that I would use. Some when out of oil spit on their valves. That will work for about five minutes. I would stock up on some oil. Best, Jon
Oil is important, most don’t think about it until the valves slow down. Using that as the norm most trumpet valves are good for about 20 years of use. If you wipe them off with a paper towel you will most likely see black on the towel. This is a combination of wear and some foreign matter introduced by your saliva. If you wipe your valves down once a week and clean your horn once a month your horn and valves will last longer than most peoples horns. Be sure to lubricate everything after you clean or wipe them. If you apply a little oil every 3-4 days you are going to be fine. Best, Jon
