We are not talking about the first people in the Philippines here, These foreigners are just discussing the first religion in the Philippines. Let's respect each other's. Kung anu yong gusto niyong paniwalaan GO FOR IT. Find the truth for yourselves and keep it within your hearts, don't spread it. Talk to yourself, you and you alone. :) ;)

That's not a good way to spread knowledge and truth. Doing nothing is as good supporting the lie. Civilizations din't advance due to people keeping their thoughts to themselves. Expose fallacies and falsehoods wherever you meet it, express your thoughts to challenge its integrity. Learn from the world, meditate on the teachings and share it to all to be accepted or ridiculed.

Please do not re write history that our ancestors were muslim, yes there were muslim brothers (native converts or force converts...) but not the entire archepelago..only southern part of the Philippines through the passage of time..
Datu, Lakandula, Maharlika were not muslim form of government in the society but the ancient basic unit of our Filipino ancestors from the balangay or commonly called baranggay.....

Sultanate of Kabuntalan, Sultanate of Rajah Buayan (I think originally were ruled by hinduism that's why it has Rajah in it), and the sultanate of Maguindanao (It can be confused by the collective Maguindanaon sultanate which is also called Maguindanao).

That's the sad part of it when people research about the Philippines they think that we here in the south were conquered too. We were never conquered by any foreign powers. We were never part of the Philippines until in the early or mid 1900's I think. What happened was our amcestors were outsmarted by the Philippine government that's why we are now minorities within our own ancestrial lands. It's a bit touchy subject tbh. But alhamdulillah bit by bit we are being recognized now.

what kind of logic is that? so if you presented a mansion to a person in a mudhut for free, they should not take the mansion and stay where they started from? If apple calls you tomorrow and says we will upgrade your iphone to the newest best phone for free would you not do it and stay with what you started with? as Humans we want better in everything, Islam came to your country by traders and word of mouth preaching 1 god, Christianity comes 2 centuries later by force, rape and the colonist. preaching idol worship 3 things=1 god. Christianity was always spread by colonist and crusades, only in the last 50 years you hear about Muslim extreme terrorists, no one in history of islam were doing suicidal killings thats just uneducated extremist not islam, dont let few bad apples ruin the perception for you, by the same people that control the media and tell you Iraq had WMDs when they didnt, just to go and try and take their oil. Any muslim majority country that isnt 3rd world has banks with no interest, free school, free healthcare, no homelessness or drug problems, no such thing as senior living homes etc. Do some research about Islam and its origins not this white washed media take on it.

Our country was trading and practicing islam in the south before the spaniards came. The middle and northern provinces were pagans. So technically Philippines was first a Muslim state before it was a Christian dominant state. I am a Christian by the way but I am proud to admit this about our history and we love our Muslim brothers in the south.

I don't believe that lapu-lapu was a Muslim. if they were then they should have covered up their women. The ancient women of our islands in cebu wore elaborate golden jewels and tattoos and can own their own lands like men. That alone make them not so muslim. We pray to our ancestors and spirits we call "Bathala" for guidance and favor. We are free people through and through until religion and colonialism robbed us of our identity. Now everyone wants a peace of the Philippines for its beauty and wonder.

+troy casinillo I'm from cebu. It is the island beside Mactan. I am not a hystorian but I visit meuseums and heritage sights. People from lapu-lapu's time wore protective amulets that filipinos call "anting-anting". this is a pagan practice but its oregin is from anemism since the older version of this pactice believes that the only way to get an "anting-anting" is when the a spirit of nature gives you one. they also wore tattoos all over their body to as a symbol of their bravery. I also dont remember finding a mosque in the island of mactan. It is true though that muslim came first in the philippines in Tawi-tawi, zamboanga, mindanao.

+LastSaint Oh! your from Cebu, Thats great! Well, i am from Lapu Lapu City, the island itself. i lived there, grew up there, born there. I have ancestry blood of his Great Royalty Warrior LAPU LAPU, but a far far generation. You did a good research, but no one ever said that my great X7 grand father was a muslim and No one also said that he is not a muslim. LAPU LAPU never needed a "anting-anting" coz the people trusted him. he is tall, musculin ta-toed body and an agile fighter. He is one of the strongest fierce warrior Son of the clans of Datuh. He also had a brother called MANGAN. now MANGAN was a show-off guy, he is the one who wore some anting-anting and a HUGE warrior, bigger than his brother. there is a part of the place that is majestic near the battle grounds, not so distant. Its the tip of the island. if we go fishing there, we pray for MANGAN, asking for a good catch in the sea. Lots of people died on that area, and saw some un-explained happenings. Even my great X2 ancestry tells me not to go to that place. But now its commercialised. i dont know what will happen there. There is little information and the generations left of LAPU LAPU because, the Spaniards, katchilas tried to kill all of his kind and erase it from the history. My relatives even changed their surnames coz they are being killed by the spaniards forcing to beleive in cristianity. but my ancestry never mentioned that they were muslims forced to believe cristianity. Magellan tried to invade our land, thats why LAPU LAPU Fought with the Spaniards. ITS NOT ABOUT RELIGION of Muslim and Christianity. its the invasion.

    • @lastsaint4162
      @lastsaint4162 7 лет назад +1

They wear them as necklace since most of the anting-antings are amulets. But it is possible that the early form of anting-antings are earrings. I could say that amulets and necklaces became more popular since it is more secured placed closer and in front of the body. No one can denay though that filipinos and malays are related. "Malaya" means free in (tagalog) the common language used in northern Philippines.

President Dutere was right about the muslim in mindanao.. they are not filipnos they are muslims and they want their land as the land of the muslims or bangsamoro not the land of the pfilippines. great job hope young filipino people would acknowledge the truth. knowing the real history it doesnt mean converting yourselves to be muslims. it pays to know ur roots. of course the first people was not muslim, it was the first religion set in the philippines before chriatianity came in. filipnos has to understand that.we have to respect the muslim people but abu sayaf is unforgivable.

This video saddened me. How can someone fabricate a country’s history for their own benefit!? This will only cause division and confusion that may affect the good relationship of Christians and Muslims in the Philippines. Lapu-lapu is a heavily tattooed guy who loves to eat pork and drinks wine. Visayans, where Cebu sits in ,were noted for their widespread practice of tattooing hence they were called PINTADOS by the Spanish conquerors. Tattoo, Alcohols and Pork are known to be prohibited in Islam yet this guy thinks Lapu-Lapu is a Muslim. How come?

Lapu-Lapu before the arrival of the Spanish was in the pre-colonial oral chronicles from the reign of the last king of Cebu, Rajah Tupas (d. 1565). This was compiled and written in Baybayin in the book Aginid, Bayok sa Atong Tawarik ("Glide on, Odes to Our History") in 1952 by Jovito Abellana. The chronicle records the founding of the Rajahnate of Cebu by a certain Sri Lumay (also known as Rajamuda Lumaya), who was a prince from the Hindu Chola dynasty of Sumatra. His sons, Sri Alho and Sri Ukob, ruled the neighboring communities of Sialo and Nahalin, respectively. The islands they were in were collectively known as Pulua Kang Dayang or Kangdaya (literally "[the islands] which belong to Daya"). Sri Lumay was noted for his strict policies in defending against Moro raiders and slavers from Mindanao. His use of scorched earth tactics to repel invaders gave rise to the name Kang Sri Lumayng Sugbo (literally "that of Sri Lumay's great fire") to the town, which was later shortened to Sugbo ("scorched earth")

April Rose Fallarmme Lapu-lapu ( I dont think that name is from an arab country ) killed Magellan, and that made him a non Christian?.. Lumay (also known as Rajamuda Lumaya), who was a prince from the Hindu Chola dynasty of Sumatra must be not a Muslim too because of his strict policies in defending against Moro raiders and slavers from Mindanao but they lived in the same island. What are they then?

I am Catholic and I am from Mindanao. Whoever this man in the middle, he's not a very good historian. First question, if Cebu was predominantly Islamic by the time the Spaniards came, why did the Spaniards didn't wrote about it? Spaniards would have bragged about their conquering the "Islamic Cebuanos" since they defeated them in Spain before? Spaniards will not miss writing about this.

some people here are trying to portray as the anchor is lying and that Lapulapu was not a Muslim..... according to the history of Cebu written in ancient alibata script on pandan leaves and other indigenous materials that was published under the supervision of Philippines government with a name of, Retracing Our Roots A Journey into Cebu’s Pre Colonial Past ... Lapulapu was not a native to Cebu, but he came from an Island named Borneo that was directly under the rule of Muslim sultanate of Brunei. He came to Cebu and asked the ruler of Cebu Raja Humabon to give him some land to settle in, he offered him to settle in on an island name Opong which he rejected, then he was offered to settle in on Mandaue and he accepted.... All this favor was not free but was for just because the Raja was interested in his niece and he was wishing to marry her. Later Lapulapu and his men became hostile to the Cebu and its ruler, they were attacked by the Raja Humabon several times but the Raja Humabon was always defeated. Merely after a few battles with them, the Raja could recognize that Lapulapu and his men were more powerful than his army.
Now i ll quote Pigafetta who was with the Spanish invaders at that time....When they landed in Cebu, they were welcomed by the Raja Humabon as traders and they went into a blood compact with the Raja Humabon, then his people were converted to Christianity as a good gesture (here comes the quote that is already quoted but i ll quote it again.... We set up the cross there for those people were heathen. Had they been Moros, we would have erected a column there as a token of greater hardness, for the Moros are much harder to convert than the heathen.
    - Antonio Pigafetta, Primo viaggio intorno al mondo, c. 1525)
After they went into the blood compact with Raja the Spanish planed an attacked on Mandaue island where Lapulapu and his people were living to establish the write of Humabon government on them... Before they were going to attack the island, Raja Humabon warned them as a good friend about the bravery of those people..... I ll quote the exact words here ..... The Raja Humabon said "Have a good care, O king, what you do, for these men are those who have conquered Calicut, Malacca, and all India the Greater. If you give them good reception and treat them well, it will be well for you, but if you treat them ill, so much the worse it will be for you, as they have done at Calicut and at Malacca
Pigafetta, A., Nancy-Libri-Phillipps-Beinecke-Yale codex, Skelton, R.A. English translation. pg 71
Now you tell me who was Ruling India, Calicut and Malacca at that time?
It was Muslim and the Raja Humabon was telling the Spanish that Lapulapu and his people were part of a nation who had conquered India, Calicut and Malacca.

    Here are my critical points:
    1. Was Islam the first monotheistic religion in the Philippines ~ probably. But we can trace back our system of belief more closely to Hindus (India). There were a race called "Sepoy" (Half Malay, Half Indian) lives at the Mountains of Morong in Luzon long ago. And as all we know Hindu is a polytheistic religion. We can basically say that Hindu is just a more improvised pagan system of belief. if we line side by side the superstitious beliefs of Pilipinos and Hindus there are long parallels.
    2. Rajah Soliman was NOT a Muslim. Rajah is a Hindu word which means "ruler" like a king to his Kingdom of Tondo. Kingdom of Tondo stretch out from Polo Valenzuela up to Paranaque. The rest of Metro Manila and Rizal was the Morong where the Sepoy were inhabiting. Then we can fairly say that because Hindus were here in the Philippines (which originaly was the Maharlika) long before the Chinese, we shared and live in harmony with the Hindus together with their system of belief. Hindu is just another animistic religion were you anthropomorphize things.

I am a Mactan native, but our oral tradition never say that lapu-lapu was a Muslim. And they did not fight for Islam. Our oral tradition says that Raja Humabon had wrath against Lapu-lapu since the latter was a pirate, he used to attack and rob the ships bound for Cebu that passed Mactan channel. In fact, the term 'Mactan' is derived from Cebuano word "mangatang" means "to ambush". When Magellan arrived in Cebu, Humabon goaded him to attack Lapu-lapu, for he himself could not overpower the latter. On the other hand, perhaps Lapu-lapu was a muslim because there's a writing that surfaced that he came from Borneo, and his activity is comparable to one of Muhammad's activity which was to ambush the Caravans bound for Mecca. Also in that time, the Moros used to attack Cebu and looted their properties, just like what Muhammad did to Banu Qurayza and other tribes.
the Spaniards who occupied the Philippines were not crusaders if they do, there would be no Islam left in the country. Fighting is forbidden in Catholicism, but they were forced to fight back against the Islamic attack in Europe in 11th, 12th, and 13th century,. Had not they done that, the Europe would have been Islamic today. That move was called Crusade.

He forgot about other Rajas or non-muslim chiefs and the Igorots or Ifugaos of Notthern Luzon that are ready to fight inavading muslims. Muslims weren't even able to conquer all of Visayas, the island next to Mindanao, even though muslim cities were spread on that region.

That is why there are Indians in America so to speak! He thought he was in Asia (Indies)

Before the Spaniards came to Mindanao, Islam was already a major Religion at that time and most of the Filipino tribes in Mindanao are already following Islam. I know this because I am from Mindanao, from Zamboanga city. Christianity only spread when Spaniards came. So basically the spreading of Islam is quick and without a war because it was spread by word of mouth or shall we say in Islam by Dawah. I hope I was able to clear this out for you.

The fact is we are all Filipino citizens whether we like it or not. Whatever Religion you embrace or the color of your skin or ideology you follow, or whoever son or daughter you are... we are called a filipino. If you want to set up your own Islamic state which we know dont mix with a democratic form of government then we might as well set up a Theocratic government where we can set up Laws for Muslims, Catholics, Christians, InC...etc. and start Holy Wars eliminating all infidels because they believe and look different from what I believe and do. This is the cycle of life...repeat chorus... look at history ... learn from it... or we can choose a different path... make a better future.... in peace, harmony and prosperity... respect each others belief which is what democracy is trying to give us that freedom. In return we have the responsibility to protect that freedom with our lives. Dont allow Racist mentally due to Religion, color, ideology....etc divide us rather use your uniqueness to make a better world for us, our children and our Country.

It has been a goal of Catholicism and Christianity to obliterate Muslim. I acknowledge this part of history that has been untold in our schools here in the Philippines since all schools that was established in the post-Spanish era. As a true Maharlikan, I do not accept Catholicism and Christianity as my religion nor do I accept the name, Philippines.. Long live Kaliph Pulaka! Long live Maharlika! Long live Malaya!

+Isa Usman Did you read the comment? She said if you don't feel like a Filipino, get out. What right do you have to say na migrante ang kapwa mo Pilipino dahil Katoliko sila?

That's because Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei has oil while the Philippine does not have any oil. The wealth difference is not due to religion but due to the availability of natural resources. A few decades back, when oil was still not discovered in those areas, the Philippines was richer.

omarmustafa khalil96 Mindanao is 80% Christian and lives peacefully with the Muslims. An autonomy perhaps may be in order but Independence from the nation Philippines 🇵🇭 may not be feasible. We shall be one nation. The Filipino Muslims were given this extra incentive of having dual citizenship once they perform their hadj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and encourages them to place their loyalty to Allah above all else which is not different to Christians as is written on the Bible on Exodus 20: 2-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21, the number one and number two commandments of the Ten Commandments, which says, "I am the Lord your God, you shall have no other gods before me...", I hope my fellow Filipino Muslims will have to be careful of those who are radical islamist who will use such loyalty to incite killings and terrorism...

Correction below: Spaniards had defeated and driven Islamic rule out of Spain many years before they arrived in the Philippines. So if Mactan, Cebu was Islamic, they would write about it, but nothing in history says so
