Oh I love that you recommended brookwillow, I just found her channel a few weeks ago and been watching ALL her videos😍🤭 thank you for another lovely episode and hope you have a great trip!
I’m sorry about your cousins sweater reaction!! I once knit a sweater for my niece and I think she was going through a sensory phase with clothing. Anyways, she put it on and had an absolute meltdown and ripped it off. And then her dad ended up shrinking it anyways 😂 I’m sure there are lots of stories out there like ours!
ahaha yeah, I'm sure! thank you for sharing yours, these stories make me feel better about the situation and now I can actually laugh about it! I think he's also going through a phase like this so bless him and let's see, maybe he'll want a hat when he's a bit older or I just have more time for knitting for myself, which is never a bad thing!
Love the book rec segment ! totally agree, the characters in Cleopatra and Frankenstein had some quite unrelatable (to me) issues which sometimes made it annoying, but it was also so interesting ! Love that you’re enjoying happy place and hope you have lots of fun with book lovers too 😊
thanks!! ☺️ I loved happy place and am so far really enjoying beach read so far! I think book lovers was my first and favorite of her so far, I read it earlier this summer!
I read it as well and although the whole world in this book was so unrelatable I just sped through the pages because I was kind of fascinated. It also reminded me of a lot of movie tropes.
I feel for you! I knit a sweater for my 5yo daughter in beautiful hand dyed merino - (almost $100 in yarn) you couldn't get much softer and non itchy than that, and she refuses to wear it unless she has a long sleeve tee under it 🤦♀️🙄 kids - not always not worthy!
I love gift knitting but my anxiety does not. I literally go into nervous sweats whenever I make something for someone that doesn’t live with me lol. I’m so sorry that your cousin didn’t like the feel but it was a beautiful top and I’m sure someone in the family can make good use of it. Your stripe hype sweater is beautiful! I love the colors. Hope to run into you and Chelsea at Flock! 🩵
A lovely podcast! And I get that you're exited to start a plain, one color raglan after all those pretty stripes. I personally found Happy Place not as exited as I thought it would be. Still enjoyed it though! Maybe I was still thinking about 'Love & other words' from Christina Lauren. I just read that one before Happy Place, and they had some of the same elements in it. I think that if you enjoyed Happy Place, you maybe like that one also😊
i knit a summer jumper for myself in drops belle, lost yarn-chicken, and got two more balls. this is how i found out that not all drops belle yarns are the same. the colour is almost identical but with the first batch, i was pulling out tiny bits of stiff prickly linen while knitting all the time (quite annoying, actually) and it's STILL a bit rough and itchy (even after washing). the other two balls? picked a harder bit of linen twice at the most and the bottom of the jumper which never touches my skin is cotton soft. 😄 i got unlucky. at the same time, i learned something important about this yarn and now i know i won't use it for my more sensitive family members.
that’s very interesting! thanks for sharing! variety in quality is probably very common, even in commercial yarns - so good to keep an eye out for that!
Ah, your Stripe Hype is absolutely beautiful. It deserves all the fame it gets, so happy for you. It sounds like some unfortunate experiences with the knits for kids, but they looked really nice as well. Hobbit hood sounds like a really cozy look. I love the colours of your socks, I do understand what you wanted to say with the contrasting HFG. I think the Fishlipskiss/Shortrow/Shadowwrap Heels look more balanced with a CC since the have about the same proportions of colour on both sides, whereas the gusset is just around the back and a tiny bit under the heel. On the other hand I feel like the HFG gives such a nice fit. Wishing you a nice time with Chelsea and in the US 🌻
thank you katharina! :) ❤️ yeah, that's what I was trying to say, but either way I still love the fit of the HFG most so will still be knitting socks with it for sure!
Hi Marlene thank you for another great video! I totally agree -heel flap&gusset does NOT look good with a contrast colour. I’ll be at Flock also - maybe see you there!
Always enjoy your podcasts. Your knits, yes, the stripe-y sweater I’m looking at you. ☺️ Two questions unrelated to knitting. Had you been having any difficulties with your sourdough starter this summer? I’m in the US so probably quite different with climate. Also, where did you get that gorgeous coffee cup?? Need.
thank you, patricia! ❤️ oh yeah, it's been a bit funky lately, when its too hot but also we've not been baking as much as in the spring and winter - when I come back from holiday I want to get back into it again! it was a present from a local shop so I wouldn't know how to link it, I'm sorry!
What a cute kid sweater! I am sorry it ended up not being as nice of a gifting experience for both of you. I will say, as a mom, it is very fun to knit for babies… the parents have a full say in what they wear and tiny knits are so quick. And my older children still enjoy when I sew and knit them things. I am sure it will change with time but for now I am taking advantage and make them things as much as I can. So it all just depends on the kids really. If they grow up getting handmade items it might be easier in some ways.
I think so too! I’m happy you’re enjoying making handmade a for your kids and Imm sure I’ll make many tiny knits too throughout my future knitting journey 😊
Making garments for kids who are not used to wearing handknits is not always recommended. Esp not at that age. I honestly wouldn't be doing it unless I know that they're used to it. For my own kids, it has taken them quite some time to get used to wearing handknits. Now my daughter (5) lives in her handknits but it wasn't always like that. She also has one or two things she never wears (actually in a yarn similar to drops belle). My oldest (10 yo) doesn't want to wear handknits and have even told me not to bother making something for him 🤷🏼♀️ I have found that the best yarn for making garments for my kids is a cotton-merino (SW) blend. Easy care, non-itchy and still get the benefits from the wool while not being overly warm (all three of them are always very warm)
Your cousin might have sensory issues with clothes, so I wouldn't worry too much. I made my nephew a blanket when he turned four. It was similar to a blanket I made for my niece, so when he opened it he went, "oh, this is Sissy's blanket," and threw it on the ground. 😂😂😂 Even in the moment I just laughed, but my boyfriend felt bad. He was like, "you spent so much time on that!" And I said, "sure, and he'll use it a ton, but he was confused and thought it was his sister's blanket so I'm not offended."
Hey, i´m ging on the plane for the first time next week and would like to take some knitting to distract me! How did you take your needles on the plane?
hey! I talk about this pretty lengthy in my pre-trip video, so you can check that out for more in depth thoughts on it :) I would always check with the airline I’m traveling with for their guidelines! I would usually take wooden ones that you can take off the cord too, but I’ve also not had any problems ever before while flying fortunately!! safe travels 🤍
I spent a day and a half making my friends little girl a tank top out of drops Belle. She asked me to make her a pretty shirt, so I let her choose from the yarns I had that I thought would be suitable. Same thing happened! She was jumping up and down cheering me on as I was casting off. She put it on and screamed and tore it off! 😖
I have learned that I need to be careful about who I knit for, even a little child I love. It is a joy to give but hard when someone doesn't really like it. I think the texture was a little too much for her.
I've knitted t-shirt for my 4 yo. He had chosen yarn, colours, everything. After two months: "oh, it is great, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO WEAR IT. " I was like" What?! So why I was knitted it last two months?!" He: "Well, i dont know, why?" So good He has younger siblings 😂
@@marleneknits yep! And I made this shirt with extra-soft merino. I think that clue with knitting for kids is: make 2 sizes bigger. Maybe one day little owner will change his or her mind 😅 that way kid has more time to changing mind 😅

Take care

Your sweaters look amazing! Your Stripe Hype totally inspired me to make my own. Love the Portobello too! Thanks for sharing 💛

Love your podcast - but missed who the designer is for the frog lips kiss heel pattern. Do you have a ravelry link to the pattern? :)
it’s the fish lips kiss heal by sox therapist design - this way you should be easily able to find it on ravelry :)
