I wanna know if the level designers for this part of the game were so bored and angry that they wanted to take their frustration on the players. The underwater puzzle and the sewer parts were the worst part of this whole game. I loved classic Tomb Raider but for God's sake they had some bad levels
Eidos wanted CORE to churn out a tomb raider game every year after the 1st. They never stopped. They reached burn out at TR4 but I think 3 you can notice the level design having less flow, I don't blame them. The music for the 1st tomb raider game was made in 2 weeks and its iconic, he mentioned it was a stressful time.
Why do you dislike the underwater puzzle so much? I expected to hate it too, but the mini submarine is really not that bad and you have a constant supply of breath that is relatively easy to reach as long as you are systematic with the underwater labyrinth. I found it kinda fun tbh :x
@@idr121 The underwater puzzle with the hub area is just disorienting, it has many twists and turns and places where you can get stuck, also the multiple openings are hard to distinguish from one another. Not to mention that at one point the air pocket is gone, and to top it all enemies spawn a couple of times. The rest of the level is bearable, and almost good, like the museum part
@@cardenasr.2898 To be fair half of the holes in the hub are just empty ones that make it much easier to be systematic with your search once you have figured it out. I do agree though that the getting stuck part and the disappearance of the air pocket were pretty terrible . I guess you could say the part is somewhat unnecessary in a sense, even though I kind of liked it in its weird way - I suppose it sort of emphasizes a thought I had about TR3 the other day: The devs didn't know when to stop adding stuff at times.
There shoud be award for completing tomb raider 3 without using guide F many times. it's very strange how Tomb Raider 1's levels and story with music are better than any other games. It has better design than the newer ones
I feel like the only one who liked the London levels 😆 I thought they were quite satisfying to complete and progress through. The canoe was the worst design in the game.
For me Thames Wharf is by far the hardest, because my PC crashes if I try to change the ingame brightness and my screen's 100% brightness is barely anything. So half the level I couldn't see shit. I think if I play this game again, I will just do London first, so I'll have like 40 flares from India and not lose them to Nevada. This and Aldwych on the other hand felt really difficult and complex, but the challenge felt generally fair (although Aldwych could have used perhaps a 5 or 10% reduction in its incomprehensive complexity).
@@idr121 you have to use a program like 'gamma panel' to do that. had the same problem, fixed it by using the panel. you can even select hotkeys to change between gamma settings.
I finished Tomb Raider 1 & 2 without a solution to help me, but because of this horrible level design this is the first time I have to search the internet to finish a level.
Also the Prima Official Guide for TR3 was one of the worst. It only gave the player general directions on where to go, unlike the Prima Guides for the first 2 Games (had them for the secrets). TR3 just felt like a chore in many places.

IM BACK! Okay so the video didnt explain it but i figured it out!!! I guess in the remaster they moved that secret to slightly later in the level!!! here are instructions of what i did to get the vehicle + gem (hope these make sense) -you have to go into the huge underwater room (that he enters shortly after.) with the scuba divers and gator and long tunnel leading to it. -the vehicle is in the top right corner room on the wall you face towards right when you turn into the room. so like you turn right into the room and swim to the upper right room. You should see the vehicle there next to a dead scuba diver. - in the room next to it (left top corner room) there is an air pocket if you swim to the back and then up. Use this air pocket to gather breath in between lever pulls :) not sure why they moved it for the remaster + also i hope i worded this okay and explained it well. -ALSO the gem is in one of the rooms offshooting the giant underwater room aswell but i cant remember which- but you should be able to see it very clearly from the center of the room it isnt hidden or anything and the glow is very bright and obvious🙏❤️🙏❤️🫡 hope this helps. Not sure why they changed it.
Yep truly a mystery... back then in the late 90s most ppl didnt have internet (me included) and yet me and my best friend back in the day SOMEHOW finished the TR trilogy lol. And now im wondering how the hell u go through certain levels here decades later
I only know how to get the imbalming fluid and go down the trap door hole into the water. Anything after that, I get lost and rage quit, and it's been that way since 1998 😅
WHAT even is this level? If it's supposed to be a museum then why are there pressure plates for egyptian blocks in a security room? Why are there switches inside the egyptian exhibition? Why do the workers keep a bottle of embalming fluid hidden behind some death-defying jumps and climbs? I know video game logic is a thing, especially in TR games but THIS is just ridiculous. You can hardly recognize what this level is supposed to be.
Maaan, I already don't like the London levels (ugly, some of the longest in the game, some of the least coherent), but this one truly is my least favorite level in the entire series. The museum section isn't too bad, and even provides something new to look at, but everything after that is just torturous. Even uglier than the rest of the section and with just the worst God damned underwater segment in the series. Truly heinous.

It's the Boiler room key did you go back to where he died? I found it lying in the area he patrolled where I killed him. I SPENT OVER 3 F****** HOURS LOOKING FOR A MF KEY I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THAT BLENDED INTO THE ENVIRONMENT!! THINKING I WAS LOCKED OUT OF THE MISSION!!
Did this level all by myself without any guide, except for this jump 31:54, too dark to see anything. I'm playing on PC but with a mod to make the game like PS1 version. Long level, but not that complicated. Next!
The real essence of Tomb Raider are the original games with atmosphere and great music. When they made the game with an uncharted skin the TR feeling was gone. They should stick to the original and create a next gen game with the same atmosphere and the great sound effects and music.
31:26 I'm dumb ngl (literally the only moment I had a problem with in this particular level; but I'm lucky I noticed a key after killing that guard). In the first level of london I had a problem with jumping to that small water pithole instead of climbing on steel monkey bars (glad I had a save), in the second one I got a few problems mostly due to an overwhelming area, second time forgotting steel monkey bars and being too dark in remaster (playing classic graphics)
Loved every bit of it. TRIII is so satisfying for me exactly because of the things it’s heavily criticized for. I feel after TRIII things went downhill, first slightly, then rapidly. Streamlining the gameplay made the games less interesting for me.

Ah, here is the level that straight up pissed me off. The first part of the level was fine. But the second half? Just why? That underwater section was torture, plus the UPV controlled like ass. The underwater maze was probably the worst part in original trilogy. Only one air pocket and passages to go down, levers to pull all the while, watching the air gauge. Oh, the biggest dick move? After a certain point when you come home to the underwater maze? The air pocket is gone. This game had some bad level design at times.

But you gotta admit there's some best level design in history. Yes, it is challenging and easy to get lost. But it's awesome how you get back here 14:48 to the start location. Totally unexpected. I've never completed this game since childhood, now almost 20 years later I can finally make it with a little help of youtube walkthroughs.
The important thing is to save your game upon entering this area and make sure you have a full health bar. Also, you want to remain unseen to the guard and the diver patrolling the area, so avoid walking or jumping in the open (as you can see in the clip). After you take care of the guard in the small room above the water tunnel make sure you’ll get into the underwater cage (the last secret) before the diver does. Ignore him, collect the goodies (and get hurt), then take out the diver with the unit and the guard before heading for the huge underwater area. If you get noticed you’ll see a quick cut scene of the diver and the guard being alerted and the cage will be sealed shut no matter what.
I remember getting both the rocket and the secret in the sphinx room. There are several ways to return to certain points in this level (room with the shallow pool, the long climbable fence, Egyptian room, etc.). In TRIII it’s important not to lose track, or make notitions, because the levels are so open and large. Honestly, if you really want to get EVERYTHING in any TRIII level half an hour of playtime simply doesn’t cut it.
What were you playing the game on? I'm playing it on the PS2 and the caves and underwater areas are so dark, but yours are so bright. What did you do to get it so bright? I have tried brightening it up but it can only do so much on the PS2.

you should save at next slot for each progression around at least 5 slots in circle (overwrite the oldest one) so that you can load any previous save in case of you recent saves are ruin by some mistake.

umm microsoft doesn't build PC's Microsoft also doesnt own the Tomb Raider IP. The HD Textures/upgrades on the PC are from the Developers who made the game.
People are crapping on TR levels, especially this level and the underwater puzzle. They say it's disorienting. Lol dude, that's the fkg point. I don't like modern setting levels because I prefer ruins, but I love when they did these really difficult levels, especially those ones who got me stuck for weeks because I couldn't find a lever or whatever. The magic of blocks in TR is that they could play with disorientation, hiding paths in plain sight. That's why Anniversary, being a good game, didn't have that magic, because more realistic features means that devs have to mark the paths, the lodges, and the rocks you can interact with. What I don't like, and it's something that was very criticized back in the day about TR 2 and 3, is so many human NPCs you have to kill, even security guards like in this level. And those really unfair moments when NPCs spawn right at your back... I hate that and I think that's cheap and lazy. But other than that, I really love these frustrating, rage-quiting huge levels. That's the fkg point of it: the challenge.
I sat 2 hours on this lvl, its just a torture without a guide. The lack of a clear path makes it just incredible hard & some of the design choices were not that optimal... London levels in generell are not my thing. they dont look good & they dont have a nice feeling... worst levels in the trilogy sadly :(

How did I ever finish this game as a kid! Oh that’s right I spent hours and hours, days and days. Heck years playing it, loving every minute of it!!!

The museum in the game is closest to the British Museum. It is also located closer to St Paul’s and Aldwych

@@scottd. If you enter the large under water room then on your right hand there are 4 corridors, than i believe its the upper right corridor.

I dont cheat but the underwater puzzle is a nightmare
I have to shut down the whole tomb raider 3 cause of that level 14! I'm sick and tired of restarting the whole game from level 1! sickening! just unfair!

It's a pity you can only get HD on PC. Xbox is Microsoft so why can't we get the HD versions from the store? My PS3 versions are horrible PS1 ports.
umm microsoft doesn't build PC's Microsoft also doesnt own the Tomb Raider IP. The HD Textures/upgrades on the PC are from the Developers who made the game.

People are crapping on TR levels, especially this level and the underwater puzzle. They say it's disorienting. Lol dude, that's the fkg point.
I don't like modern setting levels because I prefer ruins, but I love when they did these really difficult levels, especially those ones who got me stuck for weeks because I couldn't find a lever or whatever.
The magic of blocks in TR is that they could play with disorientation, hiding paths in plain sight. That's why Anniversary, being a good game, didn't have that magic, because more realistic features means that devs have to mark the paths, the lodges, and the rocks you can interact with.
What I don't like, and it's something that was very criticized back in the day about TR 2 and 3, is so many human NPCs you have to kill, even security guards like in this level. And those really unfair moments when NPCs spawn right at your back... I hate that and I think that's cheap and lazy.
But other than that, I really love these frustrating, rage-quiting huge levels. That's the fkg point of it: the challenge.

this level and Aldwich is the most dificult of the Entire Franchise ... TR 3 is painfull Hard .. only NES games are Harder than this
I sat 2 hours on this lvl, its just a torture without a guide. The lack of a clear path makes it just incredible hard & some of the design choices were not that optimal... London levels in generell are not my thing. they dont look good & they dont have a nice feeling... worst levels in the trilogy sadly :(
