I hope to get an answer for this. If I hold a hand with 20 points but it's Ace King Queen and Jack in 2 biddable suits, do I still open with 2 no trump, or does it have to be one of the suits. And if my partner also holds a hand with 20 points in Ace King Queen and Jack in the other 2 biddable suits, what should be the correct response on that hand?
Hi Brendan. Assuming your hand is balanced, then the opening should be 2NT. If it isn’t balanced, then one of a suit is the right bid. If you open 2NT and partner has the 20 HCP, the best response is 7 NT. This may seem unusual, but based purely on HCP partner knows the cards you hold. 7 NT is a certainty. When you have all the information you need, there is no need for more bidding. I would love to play this hand!
I thought so. This would actually be the better outcome if the Aces Kings Queens and Jacks were together in 2 biddable suits. Cause if not, there could be a possibility that any player could make a bad error and cost their partnership the contract. Like playing the Jack of hearts in their hand and playing the Queen of hearts in dummy.
So, to summarize, if my partner opens with 2 NT , I can apply the Stayman at 3erd level ( 3 C - if I have exaclty 4 cards in a major, and a Jacoby transfer at 3rd level ) exaclty like I would respomd to a 1 NT opening but a level up and half of the PO needed for 1 NT response
I love your videos and your website. Thank you!!!!
Thank you very much for the encouraging feedback.
9:55 Can it be also said that with 5+ points, respond with 3NT (only if hand is balanced)?
Hi. If you can’t bid Stayman or a transfer, then with 4+ points bid 3NT. This may mean the partnership has only 24 points, but it is worth the gamble.
Very clear. Thanks
Thank you.

Hi Bogdan. Technically it is 4 points less, but that is half so yes you are correct.
