Best thing with souls games is that you really get in the zone when fighting bosses, like super focused. I swear the last boss of the DLC opened my third eye !!
Playing Fromsoft games makes you realize that you have to unlearn all the shit you learned playing hack’n slash RPGs your whole life. Once you learn how to exist in the game world, and discover the ways to make things easier on yourself, these games become something that’s actually worth every bit of your time. Not only because everything you do goes towards XP/levels/gear but you yourself are levelling up your own skill with a controller in your hand, and every hard fought victory becomes an actual triumph that you’re proud of.
My exact argument for not wanting to play Fromsoft games. As someone who was there when the whole genre begun (literally have the Diablo 1 box somewhere in my parent's house), anything that strays from the formula of "right click on a thing until it cannot be right clicked anymore" is a perversion of the genre and the core tenets of it. Sure, you may need to grind the whole ordeal and outlevel everything by a factor of 10. But that's okay in my book. The fact that Fromsoft doesn't condone this behaviour in its "action RPGs", well, immediately takes me out of the target audience. Much respect to the people who enjoy them, but if I cannot simply see the final boss, right click on it, see it be instagibbed and then say at the screen "now show me the cinematic you plebe", then the game is not worth my time.
