    I think that the transformation translucent piece you talked about would have been a great tier idea.

    The Transformers Titans for $200 often go on clearance. So they don't sell all copies at $200.
    The Haslab is to maximize profit and not end up with Giant Man copies going on clearance if it were to be released at retail.

    My understanding on the Haslabs is also that if they are going to make these products they need them to sell at full price, no sales, no clearance. I have quite a few of them because I'm pretty neutral on the idea of a Haslab, I understand the people against it and I also relate to those that don't mind. While the Titan Transformers are approximately the same size they are less in quality, by a lot. Also, Transformers does have Haslabs and they are not much more expensive than the Titans, but they are niche and Hasbro needs to know they'll sell and not be something that people will wait to get for 70% off. Also, the Titan Transformers, they may be at retail, but I've rarely seen them on a shelf where I could just walk in and pick them up. I think it happened once. And collector resellers are certainly more money hungry than Hasbro. I'm not arguing for it or trying to convince you, just saying this is how I understood it. So the people that are against the Haslab idea, would you pay $200 for this at retail? If the first thing you thought is "I would wait for a sale" then that's your answer to why there is a Haslab formula.

    • @BikoX
      @BikoX Год назад +3

      The retail concept for collecting is dead/dying. They could and should have items such as this (oversized and expensive) for sale as exclusives on Hasbro Pulse, not doing crowdfunds for them. The Haslabs should be for dream projects and should be in the $400-$800 range. Instead, Hasbro is half-assing it in a weak middle ground of sorts. Too afraid to go really big and too greedy to do the right thing by it's customers.

    • @jzachery
      @jzachery Год назад +3

      @@BikoX They either want or need the guaranteed sales at full price. Putting it up on Pulse still doesn't do that. In addition to dream projects they did say it wouldn't always be a huge ticket item., I was there too. I think your price range for Haslabs is a little high, or perhaps you are. LOL. There is absolutely nothing that I need from Marvel Legends that would cost over $500. I got the Barge, I got Unicorn, I got Snake Mountain, Eternia, and Cats Lair. The Giant Man is fine. I can see a Giant Man at retail or on Pulse, but I don't see THIS Giant Man at retail or on Pulse. I'm not defending Haslabs but go buy Hot Toys if you wanna drop $800 on plastic.

Shame it's not based on the original limited series look with the blank white eyes and the no lips. The Skrull head... ehhh, take it or leave it. I'm not that familiar with Secret Invasion, but I don't remember Giant Man being a skrull. I do agree that the faceplates and skrull head should be included with the base figure and have mini Giant Man/First Appearance Wasp as tier 1. I even read somewhere that tier 2 should have been Ultron-1 or Pymtron (the version of Ultron that was half Ultron, half Hank Pym)

A 6 inch Giant Man figure as a pack in or stretch goal would have been a good choice and the translucent growing effect would have been super rad. Something I kinda wanted for a stretch goal would have been like a dozen mini Ant-Man and Wasp figurines. We've gotten a tiny Ant-Man and Wasp a time or two, but like a whole bunch of them in different poses and costumes would have been cool and could have gone in various displays collectors would have.

      You're right it was safe, but that's exactly why it was the best thing to do. Going to do an expensive vehicle after the prior HasLab failed that was a vehicle is not a good move. I think this is the right call, something that is an obvious winner, see how it pans out, then they can look into something with vehicles. Marvel collectors aren't like Joe or Star Wars ones, vehicles are not a big part of the line historically or currently... it'd be nice, but not an essential. Locking awesome 6 inch figures behind a HasLab was part of why Engine of Vengeance was such a failure, so this is not a bad idea to do a more scaled-down HasLab to see if they win back over the fans. 200 bucks for a 24 inch figure of a popular, major character with 91 points of articulation is not too bad considering how expensive toys have gotten in the last couple of years.

    To add to your idea with the 6 inch Ant Man and the transition effect piece, a tiny Ant Man would've been cool as an accessory for the 6 inch version. I think that's genius, then they could, if they really wanted the zombie and skrull accessories, have that as the final tier kinda like the Master Mold Sentinel or Dr. Doom head for Galactus.
    The zombie head's kind of an interesting choice as we haven't gotten many if any other Marvel Zombies in Legends form (The What If? Zombies don't count), bit curious if we'll see more if we reach that point.

      A 6 inch version of this or maybe a little oversized, like a BAF would have been very appropriate. Especially to show how his power works. The Engine of Vengeance, those tiers were highly wanted characters and characters that were unrelated and appealed to other branches of marvel legends collectors that weren't into the Haslab. What the F was Madelyn Pryor doing on that project? If the tier figures are themed to the actual project it's fine. This should have had a 6 inch version of Giant Man, a Wasp, and I would have loved a Black Goliath. It's not stuck behind a paywall if it's related to the damn thing. I will probably end up backing this just because it’s the character and one I’ve wanted for a while. Also the tiers are absolute garbage

    This just proved to me that the price of haslabs are set to include all the unlocks are factored into the price! So say on the ghost we paid for all of it. 500 was the price and the unlocks where 100% factored for the ghost AND the 4 figures! So if we didn’t get the last 2 figures unlocked , we where still paying for them! So I’ll never back anything unless it already been fully unlocked!

    Simply put, Transformers fans spend money, ML fans clutch their pearls and camp out at Ollie's. TF fans also have a history of being comfortable paying for the quality they want, whether it's 3rd Party or improved Takara versions.

    It is HILARIOUS to watch folks try and justify this while calling others haters for wanting a BETTER price point and RETAIL releases on items we've ACTUALLY seen in other iterations from years past. . .
    Toy Biz did ALL these large figs for fuck's sake! All were done as BAF in a wave, something that Hasbro STILL DOES!!!!
    There is NO JUSTIFICATION for this to be crowdfunded NOR to cost $200+!!!

Either way its gonna cost that much money. The tiers are not what's selling me, its the Giant Man and i really want. I completely agree we should have gotten that 6inch giant man and the translucent effect.

    Great Video! I believe basic math prevails here 10,000 backers equals $2 Million. They could have easily thrown in the extra instead of locking them behind an extra $800,000. Poor form on Hasbro's part. They need to save crowd funding for the little guys.

    I'm willing to bet that they're probably going to add some additional items as an add-on at the end for the backers, similar to what they did with the Ghost Haslab where they said Sabine and Chopper would be available as an add-on purchase for backers.

    They should have just sold giant man on retail and preorder for 149.99. Or it could have been more attractive to add a normal size giant man and the wasp for 199.99 along with the face plates skrull and zombie.

  • @Rancoroth419
    @Rancoroth419 11 месяцев назад

    Yeah, This is a clearance retail item, not a Haslab. It's probably why they are Crowd Funding it. Although, if it was a retail item, it wouldn't affect their bottom lines, the sales losses would be at the retail to consumer level. The character is a redux of yet another ToyBiz era BAF, one that isn't popular enough to go to retail. The saddest part, is they are wasting the annual ML Haslab release on THIS.

    Not a fan of the unlocks. What is the point of a "distressed" zombie head when the entire rest of the figure is pristine. Should have included zombie hands, feet or maybe some kind of switch out plates for parts of the costume. Also think the Skrull head is a swing and a miss IF this costume never had a Skrull incarnation. They should have just given the helmeted Antman head as a alt. Honestly not sure what else they could have made for Tiers, maybe some crumbled cars for him to stand on or use as a weapon. am glad they admitted that the "Bonus" tiers were never actually bonus but included in the price right from the start whether the tiers were unlocked or not. Totally agree that this should not be a Haslab and should be on shelves just like the transformers.

    Tony makes a lot of sense in this video, but I'm honestly not bothered if this Giant Man gets the funding, as I still don't think Hasbro have got the figure right.
    It should have been more comic book accurate, with the tiers being a comic book accurate Ant Man and Wasp.

    The reality is that online community discussion is toxic with the overt negativity and not enough objective evidence of problems. It's more "Hasblow sucks" or "Marvel Legends are terrible" rather then good discussions most of the time. Hard to decipher between flat out online trolls and man babies complaining. I backed the Giant Man and I think it'll be a nice piece to my collection.

    Marvel Legends 12” Deadpool Agent of Weapon X Action Figure
    12” Thor 12” spider-Man 12” Captain America 12” Hulk all of them cost was 49.99 double that for 24 inch $99.99 even with inflation make it $129.99 or $149.99 that should be the price even last year Marvel Hasbro Legends Series 13" Action Figure Surtur, Infinity Saga was also $ 44.99
    Also, every single one of those 12 inch figures came with a lot of accessories I cannot stress enough that there are no accessories
    It’s crazy how they are charging us more every time and no one says anything

    A nicely repainted ant man and a nicely repainted wasp would’ve been nice. But then Hasbro would use the excuse of “bUt wE thOuGht yoU haTed REpAiNtS¡¿” Yea, we hate them when they hit retail over and over again and when they’re painted poorly. They’ve reused the hulk body so many times, but people were still happy to see the 20th anniversary hulk because it was painted really well.
    Sure the community would complain about repaints regardless. For a premium priced haslab, I do believe we should be getting newly sculpted, well painted figures that really only make sense if you own the haslab. For example, Morg with Galactus. On its own, Morg would’ve hit the clearance rack just like the fallen one and Terrax. But together with the haslab, not a single person complained. A bad example of this would be how they handled Mephisto. Mephisto would fit in so many different kinds of displays. Morg would really only fit in one.
    They could’ve caught flack for giving us repaints or giving us nothing. The legends team, because they’re only capable of thinking linearly and not critically, chose to go with the safest option. No nuance in their offer, no creativity, just safe.
    Its like they are trying to convince us that they’re going back to how they used to do haslabs, but actually are giving us less than they used to. It’s a fine offer I guess, I’m not impressed at all so I’ll be passing.

    I don't think I'm backing Giant Man cause it is an awfully big figure and I'm not "in love" with it, but that being said I think it actually is exactly the kind of project that Haslabs call for.
    I don't agree with you that there is an appetite by retailers to back this particular figure at this scale and price. For Target and Walmart the storage commitment is likely too high, giving up 15 to 20 thousand dollars of shelf space that could be more Macbook's to sell on Black Friday with a single $200 item, and for mom and pop retailers the price would also be an issue and could go very bad for them if they got stuck with unsold units.
    So if this figure sold at retail it would likely need to be at a $100 price point and would likely only be 12 to 14 inches with less articulation.
    I'm not saying that you couldn't have that figure at retail, but I think the upgrades to this figure are what make crowdfunding neccisary.
    I think we can argue in good faith about which of those two offerings is the better call for fans, but I don't really think you would ever see a 24 inch figure with 90+ points of articulation at retail.

  • @artrendon6101

    Just got an email for Fortress Maximus. Details say its over 2 ft tall...(24") And it ISN'T a Haslab project, selling on Hasbro site for $200.00. I agree Giant Man is not over priced, but it definitely SHOULDN'T be a Haslab offering. I love the boast about articulation, because with the Haslab Galactus, half of the articulation was in the hands. I'd rather them save articulation and have it come with a 3" Wasp and/or Ant-Man with decent articulation. Probably gonna pass on it, because Legends isnt doing anything spectacular and cant stop putting out variants, repaints and re-issues. Not really worth it for the price anymore, IMHO.

    I really don’t think this is going to get funded. Here’s my take:
    - Haslab buyers are mostly Xgens and older millennials.
    - the argument that price guides purchase on Haslab is valid but not entirely true. See for instance the latest Ghost which is horribly expensive and got funded, mostly because it is a ship and older SW fans love that sh*t. On the contrary, the engine of vengeance didn’t get funded because v few of us (the haslab buyers) were interested in THAT version of Ghost Rider (both the char and that fx-free car). If it’d have been Johnny Blaze with his motorcycle, I would’ve backed it from day 1.
    - similarly I’m not interested in Giant Man. The price is more affordable, but I already have the Sentinel and Galactus and I just don’t have space for Giant Man, even at $200, or for less (arguably perhaps I’d have bought it for $100 but stored it).
    - agree this is bs and not worth a Haslab, but……. Marvel and SW are marquee brands from the Mickey Mouse Co, and for good measure Hasbro has to, by contract, promote Disney licenses. For instance think of the stupidest Haslab of them all (yes, the lightsaber thingy that didn’t rotate): the goal was never to have this thing funded, but for Hasbro to do a PR favor when the Obi-Wan series were released on D+.
    - Hasbro pay a much small fee for TF as they co-own it with Takara, so bigger production (volume) and long shelf span, ergo retail release.
    - again, to me the price point isn’t a driver. Think that in 2023 in order to complete BAF fig you have to disburse 7 x 25$ (nominal) = 175$. Tbh Haslab dropped the ball, again and not surprisingly: the right thing to do should have been $199 with zero tier or just one tier and 2 or 3 figs attached to it, like an exclusive Thor or Iron Man or Cap.
    Oh well…

    I agree that no big corporation should do crowd funding. And I’m annoyed that it’s £199 in the uk and $199. Should be £170. And I agree with the plastic shrinking/growing idea, that’s good. Seems that zombie and Skrull versions of figures have been popular tbh. And he is kinda niche in the fact that people like the MCU ant man but might not be aware of ant man history etc.
    ideal world, I’d pay £220 if they did a nine inch Goliath (that sounded wrong) deluxe fig to go along with it. That was a crazy costume. With that said, I think the vehicles being released for $150-170 people seem fine with that which feels a bit weird. Especially when there’s been similar on the market for $60-80.
