When I got told they were not going to prepare a partner book for me at Coopers & Lybrand, I went to one of my clients who thought I was a data genus, told them to make me an offer I couldn't refuse. They did, and I spent the next 25 years designing and building data warehouses. I made a lot more then my accounting contemporaries did.
Burden of the 5th year - exactly! They need to raise the accounting standards but lower the requirement to sit for the CPA exam back down to 120 hours the way it was in the early 90s. I would change the accounting content to a lot more than 36 hours out of the 120. I’d increase it up to 48 and get rid of marketing and business administration as a requirement for a BS in business.
All business jobs will move to AI. There will be owners and managers that will determine the company’s books. Any IT based profession directly or indirectly will become AI based, lots of unemployed people in the future.
The college requirement for CPA is idiotic. Do people even know how college works? Students google their way through. It’s a game of who can utilize technology to jump artificial hurdles. Besides, if they wanna work in tax they can bypass CPA and college and just get an EA license.
that’s more likely to happen in analytics than accounting tbh, pattern recognition is more prevalent at entry level analytics so i’d assume junior roles would more likely be phased out.

Isn’t Accounting one of those careers that AI will eventually eliminate?

Nope. AI is fake.
