Answering a few questions. The Ks kit is a GWR Coral glass wagon The 14xx has only been test run since new. The amount of paperwork was to see how confused you’d be. And the Collett was dead when it left me 👍 Glad you enjoyed the box. You’ve got other bits to do, chop chop!
My mainline collet has the exact same issue and needs to warm up before running well but once it’s warm she runs lovely! Yours could probably do with a service and it should be good to go! Great vid. Cheers Dan :)
I bought off my son his Airfix 14xx auto tank. It had missing traction tyres, but in converting it to EM with a small can motor, I scratch built an underframe but the suitable springing of the rear truck was a nightmare, involving further butchering of the underframe. It was ultimately successful and looks nice with the auto coach. There is not much space in the plastic body for lead shot adhesion weight.
My Bachman Split chassis N&W J class was the same way, it was horrible at low speed, and would bind up. But once you gave it some juice, and it had a place to run, it ran healthier then some modern locos
I think you should make a small layout of a heritage railway, like the ones that you visit in your videos, in that way you can run every thing that you have of different trains.
If you've not already worked it out, the "gantry" signals are brackets that clip onto the taller posts to make junction signals. They can be clipped on either side of the posts. The short post on them can be taken out and turned around depending if you build a left or right-hand junction.
You can use your accessories to build a PW yard. The armchairs are for the NUR shop steward (he's the bloke reading the newspaper) and are to be placed in the sunshine outside the bothy 😂. That way he can watch his colleagues doing the work.
Yeah box of model train goodies so satisfying really enjoyed that love your excitement, both locos just need a good clean and drop of fresh lubricant 👍
I think you need a track plans book next from hornby or Peco to advance onto the next stage, especially with all that stuff. I have looked at the Hornby track plans book and it has some great ideas and even some great compact continuous layouts.
Got one of those collet goods, though think mine was bachmann & plain GWR green. I say was as tried to get it going & killed it, left it in a box with the intention of sorting it but as moving towards 0 gauge will most likely now just stay there. As for layout ideas theres enough there to do a couple of small ones. A small loco workshop & a small GWR branch line to take full advantage of the Autotrain. As for the tall signals they were, to my understanding used where visabillity was reduced, mostly by bridges or buildings but not so obstructed that a banner repeater was required
I must confess, I have a love for 1400s myself. many moons ago, I (a yank) got roped into building the route of the Titfield Thunderbolt for a train simulator--which was fun since I basically had to learn everything from scratch in terms of how things were built. But, of course, no route like that would be complete without 1401, would it? I spent many a day running that little thing over that line. and while the route was sadly stillborn, 1401 opened my eyes to the wider world of British steam which up to that point I'd only really glanced at in a cursory fashion. Many have come since, but you could say that 1401 in particular, and the 1400s in general, were my first love.
At 50 years old... and female, I bought my first train set this year; A Hornby Virgin Intercity with its oval track & trackmat. I've not even unboxed it yet as I need some board to fix it to.
I bought a Mainline J72 off ebay a few years back. It had two of the plastic stub axles which had split (fortunately not the drive axle). So I replaced the plastic axles with sections off empty biro pen refills! She's still going strong today...
Greetings from the US! The brake van might be just a bit out of gauge or the axle bearing pockets might need some attention. The auto tank just needs a cleaning and service. Same with the collets goods. The motor sounds fine. Just all the old grease and oil cleaned out and a full cleaning and service.
Hey there Lawrie! The models just need some oil on the rods and main motor gear. Cleaning the wheels wouldn't hurt either, as it will make better electrical contact :-)
If you strip and clean the collett chassis and put a very small amount of Pecolube on the axles. These motors had a very small 3-pole motor. The 14xx had the Airfix 5-pole motor. When serviced, they were very good indeed; good slow running! Coincidently, last night, I serviced an Airfix Prairie! My own 14xx and 61xx have had the rubber traction tyres replaced with solid wheels and lead added (as much as I can fit in both!). They both now run extremely well. The Prairie will now pull 12 coaches with ease and NO TYRES!!! John Harrison
The arm chairs? Up to the 1980s there used to be a signal box at Merseyrails 'Birkenhead Park' Station. The box was on the central island platform. In about 1988 my lad was about 5 and I had a word with the signalman who let us into the signal box. In two of the corners, there were ARM CHAIRS!!! A good idea for yours????? Best wishes John Harrison (Jbhtrams)
When you said above it being a bit modern (I'm on about the first packet) maybe a heritage railway based layout? Also can't see why you can't run the auto train as part of it 🤔 Ps I'm getting GWR vibes
@@britrailtog7085 no I love the western vibe as im a western man who is, actually almost 13 1so i dont know why I called myself a western MAN 🙃 but I love God Wonderful Railway (though I prefer LNER but let's not dwindle on that).🙂😃 Also i ment P.S not please...
Great video and also GWR 14xx’s are adorable I love em also with the toad brake van, auto coach and 14XX you can recreate the titfiled thunder bolt 1401
Yes they do it's now been dropped from the Hornby main range and placed into the Railroad range. I am surprised they haven't yet put the 0F Pug 0-4-0st into the Railroad range as it is another old tooled locomotive that was once a Airfix/Dapol locomotive. The Airfix Auto coach is also still produced by Hornby but slightly updated with better paintwork and decoration.
Hey Lori I couldn't help but notice when I was watching a different RUclips show I couldn't help but notice did you work on a Heritage Railway hauling working on a steam freight train hauling Douglas on on the special Gala spring Gala
Dapol bought some of the dies, Hornby the rest. I used to work at Breck Jig and Tool Co. (Now dead!) The bosses went to the old Dapol factory once and came back with 3, very rusty, dies to see if they could be cleaned up and used again? The were for TIMPO TOYS 'LONE RANGER', his partner 'TONTO', and the Lone Rangers horse 'SILVER'. Each die had all the parts for each figure, about the same scale as Action Man figures! I remember these figures in the early 1960s, they all had moving heads, arms and legs. I don't know if they were ever finished, as I left shortly after they arrived. Interesting though?
Hi Lawrie. I'm curious: you said that you could hear "a dry spot on the motor", but you still decided to run the loco - why? I Edward has some N gauge railway stuff he would like to donate, I'm his guy!
Also I don’t care if it is for a good reason, take your time and do it when you feel like it, after all, part of building a model railway requires patience
maybe for the small items a photo making and putting on your discord or on your instagram. it is really small lovely models but i also like the details looking on them but it is little bit far away.... from the camera.
Hi Lawrie I am currently making Nameplates for my oo gauge coaches and my BR maroon mk1 composite coach is going to be called Sian and the BR maroon mk1 brake coach is going to be called JEAN and the BR maroon mk1 Restaurant coach is going to be called Jöelle and then I am going to get Etched Nameplates for my BR standard 4mt and the 4mt is going to be named Sir David Attenborough or Sir D.Attenborough just in case The Nameplate will be too long to fit David in the Nameplate also please could you run the auto tank and the collett goods top and tailing pulling the autocoach

If you can get the folds out of that london map, those are often neat things to frame as a picture. got a few of those at my house of city maps.
My Bachman Split chassis N&W J class was the same way, it was horrible at low speed, and would bind up. But once you gave it some juice, and it had a place to run, it ran healthier then some modern locos
I've got a handful of older N scale models that are split frame that do the same thing.

I’ve got one of the 0/6/0 mainline locos mine takes a while to warm up but after that she runs fine.
1400s are some of the most attractive little side tanks possibly ever, and the culmination of 100 years of 0-4-2s.
I must confess, I have a love for 1400s myself. many moons ago, I (a yank) got roped into building the route of the Titfield Thunderbolt for a train simulator--which was fun since I basically had to learn everything from scratch in terms of how things were built. Fun fact: every episode lawrie does something
never had mainline issues one of my best runners was a collett goods probably just needs a good wheel clean and a light oiling

Mainline Collett good just needs oil and running and leave alone as it’s a spilt chassis
Auto tank look good but can be a pig to work on
Idk why but when he said “he’s dead” when the guy fell over I just found it really funny
Pleased to hear you enjoyed it

Thanks for that - I know the old motors aren't very robust!
Sounds like yours is working well!
Love the video and the train
Construct a scene of an engine shed next to a goods marshalling are. You'd be able to use most of the signals and a lot of the trackside stuff maybe?
The collet will just need a properly good running in all my mainline stuff after a service and a hour running round goes great
The arm chairs?
Up to the 1980s there used to be a signal box at Merseyrails 'Birkenhead Park' Station. The box was on the central island platform. In about 1988 my lad was about 5 and I had a word with the signalman who let us into the signal box. In two of the corners, there were

Yes! It's an essential part of the signal box!
The bigger signals are for the gantries for a double lane
When you said above it being a bit modern (I'm on about the first packet) maybe a heritage railway based layout?
Also can't see why you can't run the auto train as part of it 🤔
Ps I'm getting GWR vibes
Sorry for the GW vibes. I’ll try to put some more variety in the next box

Perhaps it may be an idea to make a small(ish!) 'test track' so that loco's could be tested on a circuit as a shakedown exercise! :-)
WAITING FOR THE LAYOUT !!!!!!!! :D
the white metal wagon is a GWR CORAL wagon for carrying glass
Saw one of the bigger signals at the strathspey, no clue what they are for though
The round metallic things are perhaps supposed be Steel coils?
After a service, I'd check the back-to-back of the Collett's wheels to see if that's why it's derailing.

Simple but nice looking shirt mate
Don't Hornby still use the Airfix tooling for the 14XX?
Yes they do it's now been dropped from the Hornby main range and placed into the Railroad range. All you need to do is paint the toad brake van Gray and then you can do a remake of The Railway Series book Escape
I think it just needs a service like I think I need to do on Thomas
You seen they’re filming the new mission impossible at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Tom Cruise is at levisham
That kays kit could be a shunters match wagon
Hey Lori I couldn't help but notice when I was watching a different RUclips show I couldn't help but notice did you work on a Heritage Railway hauling working on a steam freight train hauling Douglas on on the special Gala spring Gala
Mainline were later than Airfix and used some of the Airfix bodies with cheaper Mainline (Palitoy) chassis'
That's the way round - I can never remember
There was another name for them at one time, before Dapol and Hornby had their fingers in the pie.??? Ah! REPLICA RAILWAYS!!!
Dapol bought some of the dies, Hornby the rest.

No one understands why there are armchairs at the edge of railways. There just are. Possibly Rowland Emett's fault?
It would make sense if I’m being completely honest
