Grizzly 399 and Shadow

The Queen of the Tetons and of grizzly bears worldwide, spends some time recently, cleaning dead fish off of the rocks near the Jackson Lake dam. When 399's cub tries to grab the fish from her, mom exercises a little tough love and gives it a good spanking on the right flank. The cub, known as Shadow, obviously felt a little pain as it held its right rear leg up for a few seconds, until mom grabbed that fish again.
These two bears live free in Grand Teton National Park and 399 is 37 years old with a new cub of the year. 399 has entertained park visitors at the roadside for at least 15 years and is famous for have 4 cubs at the age of 24 and raising them to maturity. She is a much loved bear.

Ouch! ... Oops, young Shadow overstepped a boundary and Momma let her/him (I'm assuming we still don't know this cub's gender) know. 😥 A bit of a hard lesson, yet we know .... necessary, instinctive wisdom from this wise matriarch. Great video catch! Thank you for sharing it!

Shadow has to learn or when someday on its own trying to pirate food from another bear could very bad. 399 is a wonderful mama 🐻💙🧸❣

Its Dec 2023. I havent heard a thing about 399 since the Summer. I assume She is hibernating. More Babies in the Spring??

love this.....do you have an update on 399 as a few days ago she left the park & went onto private land. I'm really worried about her.
