Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us-one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America-a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we continue to add shows, voices, and opportunities for activism, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. That’s it. End of mission.

Young voters in particular care about the war in Gaza, Not enough has been done to address that

    • @NikosZaidGomez
      @NikosZaidGomez Месяц назад +8

      That's a misread.
I think that's an easy trope, but it's missing a couple foundational points.
At the end of the day, that perception comes from the fact that, understandably, the war in Gaza gets a lot of coverage. Why is it understandable? Because our biggest outlets are profit driven and war sells.
Which isn't to say it isn't relevant of a topic, but it is to say that it gets disproportionate coverage relative to it's importance to the broad electorate, young voters included.
Another factor, young voters aren't ignorant, which the idea that they care so much about Gaza presumes. In the aggregate, voters care about inflation, how their leadership represents them around the world, the values of their leadership, Ukraine, Palestine, healthcare, etc. In short, it's multidimensional, and Gaza is not punching above it's weight there.

I can’t say I blame the “double haters”, especially the young ones.
Gen Z are so wildly fucked. They will NEVER own a house. They will probably never even be able to rent their own place. Student loan forgiveness is great but doesn’t even touch most Gen Z. Insulin and other medications getting cheaper mostly helps the elderly.
If you’re getting $2000 a month and your rent is $1500, there’s no way to win. If you’re on minimum wage with at-will work and minimal insurance and you have an accident or get sick, you’re fucked. I mean, it’s cool that bridges are being rebuild and chip manufacturing moving to the US but that doesn’t pay the bills.
How is it remotely possible for Gen Z to start a business? To have a family? It’s not. All they have is gig jobs and anxiety.

I'm a millennial, and my half-brother is gen-z. We will most likely end up owning our current home, which was our mom's. She inherited it from her dad. My brother could afford a home of his own because he has a college fund and chose not to go to college. It can be used for reasonable living expenses as well. I certainly wouldn't be able to have my own home unless I win the lottery or marry very well.
Fun fact: As our mom was on hospice, my brother's dad asked me if we were planning to sell the house. I obviously said no. He said, "It could be a lot to maintain, and you have a lot of stuff."
Also, this is the 9th house I've lived in in my hometown. I also lived in 1 apartment in town and 2 in the cities. 12 places, and I'm 35 1/2. It's ridiculous. It's even worse when you consider I've lived in my current house for 7 years and the house before that for 12.

My brother is gen Z and I’m a zellenial 🤣 (96) and he owns a house and I’m the one renting lol so your “NEVER” doom and gloom comment doesn’t match up with reality. But we both went to college which younger gen z’ers aren’t doing as much for multiple reasons.
My younger gen z siblings skipped college and are working in blue collar jobs that have an exciting start pay but not good salary growth potential so they probably won’t own a home for awhile. College still matters ‼️

"drill, drill, drill." that's not a solution and we're already drilling more today than any president previously. if you want to talk wallet issues with taxpayers, inform them of all the costs involved from prenatal care, cost of delivery in hospitals, costs of being out of work, expected costs and mystery expenses that come with an 18 year minimum with each new member of a family. when government forces parenthood on taxpayers, you are nuking a person's expenses to a degree that inflation and other costs seem trivial. you also have red states coming for contraceptives next (like before roe) to look forward to. ultimately, the trust must be place with young and-or black voters.

Doesn't matter who THEY are because they're not US. I think RCV will help, but so would

I’m a retiree, one of those kids who were protesting the war in Vietnam, became aware of the impact of pollution on the environment, saw parents struggle with integration/bussing from inner cities to suburbs, were the first batch of 18 year olds to vote after observing Nixon’s criminality in the office… the early 70’s were a revolutionary time. I look back and wonder what has really changed? If there have been any changes they have been so minuscule they don’t register with a majority.
I consider myself independent but have voted for the Democratic candidates because I am pragmatic. Independent candidates cannot win, even if they may have good platforms. They play an important role because the Democrats have incorporated many of the independent platform ideas into their policies. I applaud this.
One error I see in the Democratic Party and Independents is that they always seem to focus on the educated voters, which has given them the nickname of being elites. I like what Biden is doing by going out to the factory towns and talking with union laborers, not just focusing on College campuses. An even better strategy would be to have young democrats go to high schools and talk with teens who will be of age to vote in the next elections both in their communities and federally. The baby boomers (like myself) are on the demise, my grandchildren’s generation need to be reached. Not all of these young people will be on college campuses, many will be in the “service industries”, not even in union jobs. We need to appeal to them is we don’t want them to feel disenfranchised and looking to the radical right for revolutions and solutions.
