    I know this was filmed 2 years ago but to get the underarm to not bunch up you snip the first 1/4 inch seam allowance, then do your french seam and then snip the 1/4 in french seam, it releases fabric and stops the bunching. Hope thid helps someone.

    I noticed this with another one of their shirt patterns, too. The waist measurement was crazy bigger than my other measurements. I just went with the bust and hip since it was a longer camp shirt and I didn’t want it tight around the hips. They’re patterns aren’t super clear, but they’re free, so I can’t really complain.

      I tried to follow the pattern for the Lobelia dress and it was so convoluted without any clear instructions and I haven’t tried one of their patterns again since. Maybe I’ll give one another go at some point

      Did you use your measurements and blend the pattern? Cause that’s what they suggest.

    Thank you for this. It's the first time I did a PDF pattern and I got stuck with the selves and collar too. It was nice seeing I wasn't the only one. This video helped me complete the shirt.

      I’m glad it helped! I’m definitely not rushing to make another collar, but at least I have resources to help and know I have done it in the past.

    You working on this shirt is making me feel so happy because I am working a pattern by mood and I feel like I'm running into the same issues you are. I loved the video!

      Thank you! I tried making the Lobelia dress and I had to give up due to lack of comprehensive instructions. I don't know that I'm in a hurry to try another Mood pattern any time soon :(

    I printed and cut my fabric pieces for this pattern a long time ago... But never managed to do it. The instructions in the blog are so vague and just... Not enough.
    I had exactly the same problems you had: the measurements for my waist were all over the place, the collar support was way too big... But with your video I finally managed to do it! I made your alterations as well (no cuffs, and I didn't do a pocket) and it turned out great :) Thanks a lot ❤️

      Oh yay that makes me so happy! I'm so glad you were able to figure it out and make an amazing garment! I tried another Mood Sewciety pattern (the Lobelia dress) and it was such a disaster that I had to scrap the whole project and wasted a bunch of fabric. There just isn't enough detail in the instructions in their patterns for me to understand what I am supposed to do.

    Curved sewing can leave bunching if you don't sew with the curve. That's something that just takes practice to master.

    Thanks for the vid! I love this shirt pattern but the “instructions” are horribly vague…at least for a beginner but you tackled this project without any fear. Great job! Love the fabric you chose btw.

      Thank you! I would be really curious to come back to this pattern now that I have gotten much more confident in my sewing. I tried one more Sewciety pattern (the Lobelia Dress) since then and it was such a disaster that I had to completely abandon the project. It’s such a bummer that their instructions are SO vague.

      They are very hard to navigate when you first start using them! I find spreading everything out on the floor and reading through all the instructions several times before starting really helps. Best of luck! :)

    I did a search on how to put the Mood pattern together and I found your tutorial on how to make this top which I had already printed out. Ooooh I had those same issues when measuring and thought not sure this will work out! I enjoyed watching your journey and your shirt looks fabulous! Pretty fabric also! You gave me the confidence to try this out. I have sewn buttons before but it will be my first time making a collar and collar stand 😬 Thank you for the details, especially on how to do a French seam. 🪡 💕 I’m going to use an old sheet for my test run lol

      I'm so glad you found it helpful! I am terrible about doing test runs and so my first (and only) go is always with my nice fabric. I should really be more patient. You got this!

      @@MaddieMettler hee hee hee 😊 yeah. I don’t mind at all doing a test one because if it turns out nice you can still wear a sheet shirt! If I like it then the next one will be even better. I always seem to make things too large because I’m so afraid to make it too small! Thank you!

    So t know if this will help anyone, but instead of cutting the pattern,you can fold down to the cut lines, flip over the papers and tape them down I've personally found this way of attaching patterns creates less chance of ripping.

    • @MaddieMettler
      @MaddieMettler  Год назад

      Definitely a good option for a pattern without a lot of curves! I think I would have a hard time getting the fold to properly line up with the pattern if I am understanding your method correctly. Thanks for sharing!

    thanks for this! Quick question though, did you print the pattern on A4 paper or letter-sized because I've printed 2 patterns with letter-sized paper and they just don't line up properly no matter what I do :(
    (everything is scaled right and borderless too so idk what I'm doing wrong)

    • @MaddieMettler
      @MaddieMettler  3 года назад +2

      I used letter size! Mine came out right on the first try after I double checked the 100% scale. Maybe the borders need to be there?
