picking mushrooms from the forest is like a sport in my country, everybody does it when its a good time to pick :) usualy people know what is edible from picking with their parents or grandparents and it is pretty common to have a book about mushrooms in every house :D
Lobster mushrooms start out as either a Lactarius species or a Russula species mushroom, not a Chanterelle. They are attacked by the Hypomyces Lactiflurorum fungi and transform it into a Lobster mushroom.
I wonder if you could get the root of some of these and transplant them at home in dirt in a bag. They sell mushroom gardens online...this would be free. It might be worth a try?
everydaydish thanks for answering my question. I live in the Midwest so this year for sure I’m going to go search for some lobster mushroom because I’m allergic to shellfish

misahouskova that’s so cool! We’re definitely learning as wild mushrooms are a bonus of living in the Pacific Northwest.
Wow! I wish I wasn't so afraid to pick mushroom. They are so expensive to buy!
Fortunately lobster mushrooms are really easy to spot: )

Izzaboutchu! That’s an interesting idea.
Mushrooms propagate by spores. I would assume these would be the same.
Do they smell and taste like lobster? Or do they just smell like lobster?
They have a bit of a lobster flavor, but the texture is different from what I remember. Lobster mushrooms are delicious!
