One detail you might have missed is that Zoro SPECIFICALLY says, "If the first thing out of Usopp's mouth isn't an apology, we are leaving him behind." Obviously, Usopp doesn't start with an apology at first, but Zoro and Luffy just pretend not to hear him until he apologizes. I love this detail, because it shows how much Zoro wanted Usopp back on the crew as well, despite his harsh words.
The only thing this confirms is that zoro hates colored people. Miss monday, mr.1, kaku (giraffe from africa), pica (all black with haki), the monkeys he killed in mihawk's island? I see a pattern hmmmm

One of my favorite aspects of One Piece are these "in between" arcs that act as a cooling off period for the emotional intensity of a major arc, AS WELL AS being a massive world-building dumping ground for everything going on not directly related to the Straw Hats. Glad you enjoyed this one too!
Regarding the Sunny being scraped I don't think that will be the case until they complete the journey. Every Straw hat has a dream. Franky has the dream of making the ship which sail the complete new world. The best ship so as to speak. Sunny is that ship. Franky would never let the ship go to scrap. It will be like telling Luffy won't be a Pirate King. Ships already have an established significance in this world. Oda just did not let Merry be destroyed in dangerous waterfall in Water 7. He gave her a proper Viking funeral. She even had sentience. So idea that Sunny would be scraped is deeply offensive to Franky.
It's never explicitly stated because Oda loves to play loose with the passage of time, but I think the journey from East Blue to Water 7 couldn't have taken more than a couple of months in-canon (though it took literal years in manga publication and anime production, explaining Oda's evolving art style and character designs)
He actually pays pretty close attention to it and you can even log the time accurately with the shape of the moon in night scenes. There are sources/people tracking it. It is pretty interesting. I saw a video breakdown at one point of it (unless they were crazy and made things up, I didn't super fact check) Edit: Garp Told Me That

Because I agree with the op that it must've been at least half a year only on water (unless the planet is much smaller than ours)...also the Merry isn't exactly a fast kind of ship. I think the only *confirmed* time passage we have is between Dressrosa and Wano (allthough I don't know it right now) but again we don't know how far into the new world they actually are in terms of distance or how far any of the islands are apart. I do believe Oda knows and calculates how much time passes at every point of the story, I just don't think there's enough. Also I just remembered the OP world has more than one moon, so who knows if they see the same moon every night?
@@AgeofJP it was a long time ago so I may be remembering it wrong but I think it was about 46 weeks till time skip total (east blue and grand line) it was an old video so I think they were in Dressrosa when it was made. I think you are correct that in terms of bluntly stated timeline in the story it was pretty much wano and dressrosa. Yeah Merry was definitely not fast so if anything their new world journey should take way less actual travel wise. Though honestly with our world as a model, sailing halfway around the globe in 46 weeks does sound relatively right especially since you don't have to travel around whole continents like here, you just have the log pose delay there really. True! Though the only 'proof' of the multiple moons is the globe on Ohara. Which is as good of evidence as we will get with Oda usually lol plus probably an accurate. I think the video did a disclaimer about that where it could be completely off. I really wish I remembered more about the video, it would be interesting to rewatch and see if it holds up.
There's an encyclopedia (wich Blackbeard had a copy of) with known devil fruits (categorized fruits that have been eaten before and drawn how they look and described what their ability is) the 2 fruits Kaku and Kalifa ate weren't yet known. Thus they didn't know what the power would be.
you know garp told me that originally the going merry was going to be the only ship to ever be used in the series, but Oda realized that the scope of the series was expanding too much so he had to have a more fitting boat that would last alongside the series, meaning that the new ship is designed to be used up until the end.
15:55 It actually isn't the first time we've heard the word haki , Blackbeard used it in the bar when he was talking to Luffy , saying : "Someone with haki like yours shouldn't have a bounty like that" ( parafrased ) . And yes it is a real japanese word
Garp told me that we know from Robin's flashback that the Void Century ended 800 years ago, so when Whitebeard is referring to "that era" that not many people remember, he just means the "golden age" of the previous generation, not anything to do with the Void Century / Poneglyphs. Whitebeard was a part of that generation along with Roger, Sengoku, Garp etc when they were all in their prime so here in this scene he's basically just being nostalgic.
The marine and the world government are not really two separate entities. I mean, they are, but the marine is pretty much like the army in our world: it is under the control of the government. It has its own leaders and ways of functioning, so it has some kind of autonomy (which means it could potentially rebel against the world government, as the military could (and in some cases has) rebel against the government in the real world) but for now the marine just follows the government's orders. So it's not like Vegapunk works for the marine as opposed to the government, he works for both, because the marine is part of the government, or more specifically the marine is the armed force of the government
7:47 The oficial ages for the StrawHats ( from the SBS - Q&A's in each manga volume ) are : Luffy & Usopp - 17 years old Zoro & Sanji - 19 years old Nami - 18 years old Chopper - 15 years old Robin - 28 years old Franky - 30 years old And they've been sailing together for a couple months since it does take a while to travel between islands

Seriously though, maybe it’s because I never sat down and analyzed the show for the purpose of making reviews and videos, but the conclusions you’ve come to either took me WAYYY longer to come to or I didn’t think of them at all until the big reveals. Reminds me of Totally Not Mark’s series he did where he correctly predicted so many things that people were convinced he’d figure out what the One Piece is before the show does. Also, not spoilers, just corrections: Sengoku is the fleet admiral, you met him in the warlord meeting. He’s the guy with the goat, the seagull hat, and the afro. Whitebeard is referring to the era before the great pirate era started. When he and Roger (along with some others you’ll meet/learn about later) ruled the seas. He’s not referring to the void century. Just wanna clarify that for ya, as the show won’t make that clarification, though I can kinda see how you’d come to that conclusion.
We learned the Ages of the Strawhats pretty early on in the Manga during East Blue. Oda has a Question Corner in the back the Manga Volumes where he answers questions like this. Luffy is 17, Zoro is 19, Usopp is 17, Nami is 18, Sanji is 19, Robin is 28, Franky is 34, Chopper is 16.
Garp told me that this video would be the longest and most exciting video of yours to date. I'm so glad to have watched it the second it became available. So things I want to comment on -Regarding what you said about the time that has passed since Luffy started his journey. It's never been outright stated anywhere and the most we have to go on is fan speculation, but by all accounts, we're watching the Strawhats adventures across the grandline in relative real time; with them spending a few days to a few weeks at every new island location and maybe a few days to weeks travelling in between these places. All in all, it feels to me like between when Luffy left his home and the end of this arc, it can't have been more than a few months (six at most) based on what we've seen. What that means with regards to Coby and Helmeppo's redesigns is just that Oda felt like taking their characters in a slightly more developed direction and so decided to make them look different to accomodate the change. In universe, the easiest explanation for why they look so different is just that training with Garp makes you into a chad, I guess. -I literally laughed out loud at your astonishment at finding out about Luffy's dad in this video and calling back to when you joked about it previously. Though I laughed even harder at some of the stuff you said jokingly in this video as a result too. -With regards to what you said about the ship, I'm not spoiling anything but I can tell you that when One Piece was meant to be a much shorter series initially, the Going Merry was intended to be the crew's ship through to the end of the series and the loss of the ship was as much a result of the stories ballooning in size as it was the in universe result of all the damage it had accumulated. Basically Oda came to the conclusion that the spunky ship that could that he had written for the crew could not handle the extreme shit that is to come as the series goes on and wrote its death into the story as a result. Which is why the Thousand Sunny seems to be written to be so OP as a result. Hopefully that goes some way towards answering a couple of your questions without giving you anything concrete in terms of spoilers. -You're definitely getting a good grasp on the basic idea of what Haki is meant to be. Rest assured, there's more to come in terms of answers in that realm. -I can only hope you continue to have this much fun if not more so as you continue going along with the anime. Looking forward to your next one and all the ones to come after!
*SPOILER KINDA MAYBE* Oda confirmed that if you have a bad goal basically or just no goal in general you won't look very appealing or strong in anyway (koby and helmeppo before time skip) and if you do follow your goal with your heart you look better/stronger/cooler (literally everymain character, it's the main "reason" why the straw hats are so attractive except for Ussop because he has trouble being 100% brave and its why he has along jose because he lies about being brave already completing his goal, to be a brave warrior of the sea, while people like Sanji Zoro Luffy Garp gol d. Akainu kaidou Marco post time skip and koby and helmeppo all either are in the traditional sense attractive or just really cool looking and the closer they get to their goal the cooler they look aka better drawing and animation lmfao)

Man I was waiting for this. I binged all your previous One Piece videos a few weeks ago when I found them. Garp told me that you make me relive one of the greatest times a had with pop-culture media. That was 10 years ago, back when I was still 20 or so. I look forward to the next video, as the little teaser tells me we are reaching my favorite arc very soon.
Something funny is that there is an extremely old theory, not yet disproven, that Dragon might not actually be Garp's son. Maybe he was adopted, maybe he married into the family and as a nameless person took his father-in-law's name (something that happens in japan even today with Brands and Companies tied to a family). Garp has not yet called Dragon his son, be it in the manga or the anime. Never did so. He called Luffy his Grandson, he said that he is his Kid/child (neutral)'s son, but he never calls Dragon his son. He specifically only refers to him by name or with "your father". The simplest answer is obviously that he cut his connection with Dragon and only views him as an add-on to his grandson, but the fact that he never ends up calling him "his son" honestly keeps me interested and entertained. (P.S. I mean, Ichigo's father from Bleach took his wife's surname. Naruto took his mother's surname. It would not be the strangest thing to happen in manga.)

I'm really enjoying your videos, Keep it up. I also wanted to mention a small detail that you might miss like a lot of people. But when you mentioned that 9:53 we've only see the cp9 using shave, but we've actually seen Captain kuro using this technique back in syrup village. Oda mentioned that those techniques are pretty much the same but the only different is that the cp9 can control it much better than him.
Ahh, I just took those as 2 different things. There are a couple other characters who do the same exact move with the same sound effect and everything (like the dude on Blackbeard's crew, for example), but I just took it as a less developed version of the cp9 ability (such as with Kuro), whereas Koby explicitly used shave. Though yeah, that makes sense. 😄
@@Koroto I'm not sure about the other characters toei animation does love to reuse the sound effect. And it's actually the same sound effect that they use in dragon Ball. but Captain kuro definitely used shave. Luffy mentioned when he fighted against bluno that the way that they use shave is by tapping multiple with their feets on the ground. And you can actually see it animated when kuro use the technique. The main difference between them is that when Kuro uses that technique, he cannot see what he is attacking, or how far he is going, whereas CP9 have mastered this ability
Shave doesn't have anything to do with the will of D. It's just a Government/Military fighting Technique. Coby only learns it because Garp taught it to him.
So he said that it was surprising to see koby having shave because the only people we have seen were secret government assassin, so I think Kronos was trying to say if koby has the will of d it would make sense why he learned such "advanced" tactics so quickly

I just want to say that I really appreciate this series! I'm a diehard one piece fan who's almost caught back up after taking a few years away from the series and this has been an amazing way to recap the series thus far. I love hearing your thoughts and in depth analysis' of some of the smaller plot points within the arcs that might've been missed or forgotten over the years. Keep up the amazing work, I look forward to the next installment!
Also since you're skipping filler I once again recommend One Pace, especially for the next arc as there are some pacing issues with pandering and stuff (45 episodes for an arc with 48 chapters). I know you said you would try the anime's full experience, but having watched both versions I can say that you'll have a better time with the edited version that cuts some dragging parts and just stays truer to the manga original overall
That link is a guide btw, they managed to cut the 950 anime episodes into 450. They do this by removing horrendous amounts of filler and padding (mainly because the anime caught up to the manga, especially after the time skip)
When you watch One Pace as a first time it'll feel weird... One Pace is great for manga readers and/or rewatches, but when watching it first time it doesn't feel coherent at all.. Thriller Bark gets way too much hate, the pacing isn't that bad, it's like the old school horror shows that had that slow buildup middle part, its just that it's sandwiched between 2 extremely hype arcs/saga's, thus people tend to not like it as much. But Thriller Bark has some of the funniest, saddest and most badass scenes ever in One Piece.... Then again Nothing Happened in TB.....
@@dohtje5029 honestly for thriller bark it isn't that bad. But time skip forward the pacing has been really trash. I dropped at the time in the middle of dressrosa and this year I revisited the all anime with one pace. Most stuff felt way better and the bigger notable cuts were in the foxy arc only. I went with it up to wano, then went back to the last arc still not edited by them. It became really slow, even tho the animation is top tier
This arc is so important and dope. To be honest, I think I enjoyed this more than Enies Lobby! I think you fit like 10 different theories in one single video! Your pining for an all-out war is so funny, and I can’t wait to see how you develop it. Or at least, that’s what Garp told me.

Blackbeard's fruit also does the opposite of what other Logias do. While most Logias allow you to evade conventional attacks from fists to bullets, this Logia not only draws in attacks like you said, but his pain from ANY attack he receives is double the amount of pain it would've caused without the fruit's passive effect.
Garp told me that you my sir are one of the best at predicting future events, there were several things you mentioned in this video both jokingly and seriously, which are shockingly accurate. Yes Haki will be explained but dont expect it to be soon. There are detailed records of devil fruits in books, but there are lots of fruits that no one yet knows what they do, (more explaining of this later).

One Piece is one of the best pieces of media to ever go back and rewatch/reread. Oda foreshadows EVERYTHING, and you don't even realize it's happened until the reveal is already done, then your mind immediately jumps back to "OH WAIT THAT SCENE" and it's the most surreal feeling watching how **everything** has a payoff

There is a DF encyclopedia in OP world but it looks is not very common or is not too popular because DF are rare especially in the 4 seas. And also that encyclopedia didn't contain all fruits in the world.

The short mini arcs between the larger arcs are always known to be the most important world building arcs, where the entire Fandom goes nuts with theories
The title of "revolutionary" doesn't have a negative conotation lol - specially in this world. It is implied that Garp is just chilling in this last scene of Water 7. As you said, him and Luffy are friendly towards eachother in the end and as you noted, he ignored that Koby knew him and didn't really tried to capture him when he saw the Straw hats. Aokiji is also in the ship and he doesn't do shit lol.
I never like the idea of someone catching up claiming to rank arks as they go because future arks always change your opinion on the past arks in OP but I respect the fact this is a 40 min video about a post ark

Just in case no one said it but you seem to have not noticed but Black Beard mentionned a book in wich he discoverd the DF he came to desire, an index book with all known Devil Fruits in the record history(past)/recent years. Kalifa and Kaku were unknown DF because they were not, either discovered or register by people/Gouvernement before Kalifa/Kaku they eat those fruits and expose their powers.
Hi Kortotos, Thanks for sharing this video. I didn't realize this. But you stated an area. Something triangle. Oda likes to reference real places in his story. But different versions. Our real place is Bermuda Triangle. Their is something else triangle haha.
I'm not saying that not reviewing the filler arcs is a bad thing, but I don't think you should skip them entirely. If you remember, the Warship Island arc introduced the anime to the calm belt (in the manga we where introduced to it by the crew just wandering into it while Nami wasn't looking and escaped from it almost the same way they did in the anime). The next filler arc does help introduces some of the new features of the Sunny, and to a lesser extent helps give some context about how dangerous someone (who I will not be naming) is. Also, I should let you know moving forward that after this filler arc we won't be getting too much of them. We'll still get a few of them, but they'll mostly literally freeze the main story to hype up a movie that was coming out at the time. I should also warn you is used in place of filler is how the episodes will pad itself out (Dressrosa is infamous for that) and may also expand on a few things that the manga spent little time with. Also, be aware that some filler can mix into an arc, such as a few episodes in Logtown, Water 7 (as noted in this video) and half of the Davy Back Fights In conclusion, you don't have to review the filler; but you should be aware of what is filler and should not skip it entirely
Garp told me that maybe fishman island will take a while... I'm surprised you didn't mention how the Florian Triangle is Inspired by the Bermudas Triangle, like Water 7 is based on Venecia. When I saw that name the first time, I was super excited to see what Oda would do with the concept and (no spoilers dw) though it wasn't exactly what I was expecting for the most part, the ending, as in the ending-ending (hint: it's a narration iirc) left me with some goosebumps 👀 I don't know if Oda will ever go back to that, but I'd love it if he did tbh.

Garp told me that most people who read my 1st comment would focus on the negative aspect more than the rest, and how couldn't they; I did start off accusing you of lightly lying. to be fair you didn't hyper focus on that, so you were an exception to Garps rule. Throughout your series so far you've probably made somewhere around 75-200 predictions, and I did make it a point to say this was the 1st time I have ever questioned the authenticity of any of them! and others have been correct like Luffy's dad for example. So no, of course I don't think this was all a big ploy for the payoff of...nothing? There was no point for my comment anyways, right or wrong, what is there to be gained by me calling it out...Also almost always nothing. Every time you drop something as a joke, like the Dragon being Luffy's Dad thing, you found out was actually a thing in this arc, I burst into laughter and have to really hold back to not comment about it. It's hilarious to me.
Here's an important detail that cannot be ignored and explains a LOT of one piece world as a whole if no-one has told you before: Oda's characterization through character design HAS to be taken into account when you see a character's design, this can also be used to dissect character later. This is why Alvida (Ugly on the inside) should be Ugly on the outside when we first meet her. And her appearance only changes because of a Devil fruit which FORCES her to be beautiful. Its why Koby (who is the same age as luffy!) who was weak and helpless, & Spineless, looked the way he did in the original portion of the story. His glow up (re-design) is not indicative of his age, but his characterization going forward. This is why Helmeppo still has his hideous chin, but is a stronger(?) marine in stature as well. This design philosophy isn't lost on the straw hats either in their designs (Except Nami, who is the centerpiece of : Luffy - (Bright, persevering, Simple - Red) wears near nothing to protect from the elements & is highly informal and simple. His long nose is obvious, and he isn't meant to be the most attractive of the crew so his portrayal is meant to show off his insecurities as well. His head is shaped between a square and a circle. Nami - (Intelligent, Sexy, Confident) She often wears open toed shoes and some form of a skirt to show that she has just as much confidence as Luffy. She sports far more variable outfits than the rest of the crew, but always has a sleeker "purposeful" look to them. She wore effectively business Casual when going to buy a ship (notice the Tie + Skirt). She is obviously "Attractive" in the stereotypical sense, and her, Chopper, and Robin all have a completely different design for Eyes than the rest of the crew to show that they are the "Attractive"/"Cute" characters. Nami's head is shaped to a point. Zoro - (Unyielding, intimidating, "Action" cool) Never seen wearing shorts. Zoro has an immense passion in getting STRONGER as a swordsman (Haramaki, T-Shirt, Pants, Boots) always wears traditional Haramaki around his waist, which is meant to work as a body warmer and also (in traditional Japanese) ward off Evil curses and bad luck, it also used to be part of the body armor worn by traditional soldiers in Feudal Japan. I.E. Zoro's outfit not only showed he was a warrior and a swordsman, but could also have been used as a clue for his cursed sword. His head is shaped like a square because he is a sturdy individual. All of his features are sharp, including his chin and Hair. Much like his blades. The T-Shirt he wears is meant to show he doesn't really care much about his appearance. As you may have noticed, Shirtless characters in oda's series are shown as more confident. Keep that in mind. Sanji - (Unyielding, Expressive, "Style" cool) Contrasting with Zoro in the realm of "Cool", Sanji has an immense passion in COOKING for his friends and wants to be certain that he looks the part all the time. Thats the important thing with Sanji's design. While Zoro's appearance is in the past articles of war, Sanji is Almost always Business formal, wearing typically a three piece suit. (Jacket, undershirt / vest, Pants, dress shoes) One eye is often covered & sporting a cigarette, he oozes style. As you've seen, he now has attacks that are based on a "Devils foot" technique wherein he sets his feet aflame, Oda has stated he can do this because Sanji's heart burns hotter than any flame, so he can take it. His head is shaped like a mixture of nami's and zoro's. Chopper - (Child, innocent, caring) Chopper is meant to be cute obviously, and as oda has stated as far as wanted posters, is meant to be the "pet" of the crew. He often wears near nothing, as his design itself indicates exactly who he is. (Top hat with Medical symbol, Antlers, shorts, hands have hooves). There's not much more to chopper besides him also having the "Cute eyes" that nami and Robin have. His design is perfect. His head is a circle, when he transforms, his head shape changes accordingly. Robin - (Sexy, Intelligent, Mature) Robin, like Nami has both the "Cute eyes" and "cuter features". She often has more clothing on than Nami, but with sprinkles of maturity (both in sexuality and modesty) in her design. Her features are a sharper version of Nami's contrasting the two well there. Not much more to say about her. She's effectively Nami but more reserved, while also wearing more accents in her clothes. Franky - (Boisterous, Uncontrollable, Eccentric ) Unlike the other members, Franky's design was extrapolated from Mr. 2. So it would be best to look at him (Oda designed Franky after the anime caught up to Mr. 2, stating that he enjoyed the VA's performance so much that he had to give him a full character). Mr. 2 wore for dancing, much like Franky wears for sunbathing. Both outfits show little to no effort to show their actual character mechanics, as mr. 2 was an excellent fighter, and Franky is an excellent Shipwright. Although, unlike Mr. 2, in a crowd, franky is far more resolute and confident, which is shown in his flare , "Johnny bravo" hairstyle, sunglasses, and wide open shirt. Besides that, the outfits are purely eccentric, Both of their head shapes are the same (and both have pointed "butt" chins) with Franky having 1 extra...(cheek?). Thanks for coming to my Oda Talk!

We do get an explicit age for all of the strawhats. The manga has sections all throughout it since like volume 4 where fans write in questions and the author answers them. One of them being what are the ages of all the strawhats.
As far as we are concern it had been at most two months in the story. Yes, Coby grow up a lot but it's know that the straw hats have been in the grand line for very little time, and most of the arcs happen around 3 days. We do know the ages of the mugiwara because of the SBS: Luffy is 17 Zoro is 19 Nami is 18 Ussop is 17 Sanji is 19 Vivi is 16 Chopper is 15 Robin is 28 (this has been said in the anime) and Franky is 34. Yes, Shanks did in fact use Haki in his first appearance

One detail you might have missed is that Zoro SPECIFICALLY says, "If the first thing out of Usopp's mouth isn't an apology, we are leaving him behind." Obviously, Usopp doesn't start with an apology at first, but Zoro and Luffy just pretend not to hear him until he apologizes. I love this detail, because it shows how much Zoro wanted Usopp back on the crew as well, despite his harsh words.

One of my favorite aspects of One Piece are these "in between" arcs that act as a cooling off period for the emotional intensity of a major arc, AS WELL AS being a massive world-building dumping ground for everything going on not directly related to the Straw Hats. Glad you enjoyed this one too!
I love these recaps, let's you know the world exists and reacts and not everything is just waiting for the main characters to show up.
Regarding the Sunny being scraped I don't think that will be the case until they complete the journey. Every Straw hat has a dream. Franky has the dream of making the ship which sail the complete new world. The best ship so as to speak. Sunny is that ship. Franky would never let the ship go to scrap. It will be like telling Luffy won't be a Pirate King. Ships already have an established significance in this world. Oda just did not let Merry be destroyed in dangerous waterfall in Water 7. He gave her a proper Viking funeral. She even had sentience. So idea that Sunny would be scraped is deeply offensive to Franky.
It's never explicitly stated because Oda loves to play loose with the passage of time, but I think the journey from East Blue to Water 7 couldn't have taken more than a couple of months in-canon (though it took literal years in manga publication and anime production, explaining Oda's evolving art style and character designs)
He actually pays pretty close attention to it and you can even log the time accurately with the shape of the moon in night scenes. There are sources/people tracking it. It is pretty interesting. I saw a video breakdown at one point of it (unless they were crazy and made things up, I didn't super fact check)

Because I agree with the op that it must've been at least half a year only on water (unless the planet is much smaller than ours)...also the Merry isn't exactly a fast kind of ship. I think the only *confirmed* time passage we have is between Dressrosa and Wano (allthough I don't know it right now) but again we don't know how far into the new world they actually are in terms of distance or how far any of the islands are apart. I do believe Oda knows and calculates how much time passes at every point of the story, I just don't think there's enough.
Also I just remembered the OP world has more than one moon, so who knows if they see the same moon every night?

I think you are correct that in terms of bluntly stated timeline in the story it was pretty much wano and dressrosa.
Yeah Merry was definitely not fast so if anything their new world journey should take way less actual travel wise. Though honestly with our world as a model, sailing halfway around the globe in 46 weeks does sound relatively right especially since you don't have to travel around whole continents like here, you just have the log pose delay there really.
True! Though the only 'proof' of the multiple moons is the globe on Ohara. Which is as good of evidence as we will get with Oda usually lol plus probably an accurate. There's an encyclopedia (wich Blackbeard had a copy of) with known devil fruits (categorized fruits that have been eaten before and drawn how they look and described what their ability is) the 2 fruits Kaku and Kalifa ate weren't yet known. Thus they didn't know what the power would be.

Garp told me that we know from Robin's flashback that the Void Century ended 800 years ago, so when Whitebeard is referring to "that era" that not many people remember, he just means the "golden age" of the previous generation, not anything to do with the Void Century / Poneglyphs. Whitebeard was a part of that generation along with Roger, Sengoku, Garp etc when they were all in their prime so here in this scene he's basically just being nostalgic.
The marine and the world government are not really two separate entities. I mean, they are, but the marine is pretty much like the army in our world: it is under the control of the government. It has its own leaders and ways of functioning, so it has some kind of autonomy (which means it could potentially rebel against the world government, as the military could (and in some cases has) rebel against the government in the real world) but for now the marine just follows the government's orders. So it's not like Vegapunk works for the marine as opposed to the government, he works for both, because the marine is part of the government, or more specifically the marine is the armed force of the government

Seriously though, maybe it’s because I never sat down and analyzed the show for the purpose of making reviews and videos, but the conclusions you’ve come to either took me WAYYY longer to come to or I didn’t think of them at all until the big reveals. Reminds me of Totally Not Mark’s series he did where he correctly predicted so many things that people were convinced he’d figure out what the One Piece is before the show does. Sengoku is the fleet admiral, you met him in the warlord meeting. He’s the guy with the goat, the seagull hat, and the afro.
Whitebeard is referring to the era before the great pirate era started. When he and Roger (along with some others you’ll meet/learn about later) ruled the seas. He’s not referring to the void century. Just wanna clarify that for ya, as the show won’t make that clarification, though I can kinda see how you’d come to that conclusion.
We learned the Ages of the Strawhats pretty early on in the Manga during East Blue. Oda has a Question Corner in the back the Manga Volumes where he answers questions like this. Luffy is 17, Zoro is 19, Usopp is 17, Nami is 18, Sanji is 19, Robin is 28, Franky is 34, Chopper is 16.

So things I want to comment on
-Regarding what you said about the time that has passed since Luffy started his journey. It's never been outright stated anywhere and the most we have to go on is fan speculation, but by all accounts, we're watching the Strawhats adventures across the grandline in relative real time; with them spending a few days to a few weeks at every new island location and maybe a few days to weeks travelling in between these places. All in all, it feels to me like between when Luffy left his home and the end of this arc, it can't have been more than a few months (six at most) based on what we've seen. What that means with regards to Coby and Helmeppo's redesigns is just that Oda felt like taking their characters in a slightly more developed direction and so decided to make them look different to accomodate the change. In universe, the easiest explanation for why they look so different is just that training with Garp makes you into a chad, I guess.
-I literally laughed out loud at your astonishment at finding out about Luffy's dad in this video and calling back to when you joked about it previously. Though I laughed even harder at some of the stuff you said jokingly in this video as a result too.
-With regards to what you said about the ship, I'm not spoiling anything but I can tell you that when One Piece was meant to be a much shorter series initially, the Going Merry was intended to be the crew's ship through to the end of the series and the loss of the ship was as much a result of the stories ballooning in size as it was the in universe result of all the damage it had accumulated. Basically Oda came to the conclusion that the spunky ship that could that he had written for the crew could not handle the extreme shit that is to come as the series goes on and wrote its death into the story as a result. Which is why the Thousand Sunny seems to be written to be so OP as a result. Hopefully that goes some way towards answering a couple of your questions without giving you anything concrete in terms of spoilers.
-You're definitely getting a good grasp on the basic idea of what Haki is meant to be. Rest assured, there's more to come in terms of answers in that realm.
-I can only hope you continue to have this much fun if not more so as you continue going along with the anime. Looking forward to your next one and all the ones to come after!

Oda confirmed that if you have a bad goal basically or just no goal in general you won't look very appealing or strong in anyway (koby and helmeppo before time skip) and if you do follow your goal with your heart you look better/stronger/cooler (literally everymain character, it's the main "reason" why the straw hats are so attractive except for Ussop because he has trouble being 100% brave and its why he has along jose because he lies about being brave already completing his goal, to be a brave warrior of the sea, while people like Sanji Zoro Luffy Garp gol d. Akainu kaidou Marco post time skip and koby and helmeppo all either are in the traditional sense attractive or just really cool looking and the closer they get to their goal the cooler they look aka better drawing and animation lmfao)

Man I was waiting for this. I binged all your previous One Piece videos a few weeks ago when I found them. Garp told me that you make me relive one of the greatest times a had with pop-culture media. That was 10 years ago, back when I was still 20 or so. I look forward to the next video, as the little teaser tells me we are reaching my favorite arc very soon.
Something funny is that there is an extremely old theory, not yet disproven, that Dragon might not actually be Garp's son.
Maybe he was adopted, maybe he married into the family and as a nameless person took his father-in-law's name (something that happens in japan even today with Brands and Companies tied to a family).
Garp has not yet called Dragon his son, be it in the manga or the anime.
Never did so.
He called Luffy his Grandson, he said that he is his Kid/child (neutral)'s son, but he never calls Dragon his son.
He specifically only refers to him by name or with "your father".
The simplest answer is obviously that he cut his connection with Dragon and only views him as an add-on to his grandson, but the fact that he never ends up calling him "his son" honestly keeps me interested and entertained.
(P.S.
I mean, Ichigo's father from Bleach took his wife's surname.
Naruto took his mother's surname.
It would not be the strangest thing to happen in manga.)

I also wanted to mention a small detail that you might miss like a lot of people. But when you mentioned that 9:53 we've only see the cp9 using shave, but we've actually seen Captain kuro using this technique back in syrup village. Oda mentioned that those techniques are pretty much the same but the only different is that the cp9 can control it much better than him.
Ahh, I just took those as 2 different things. There are a couple other characters who do the same exact move with the same sound effect and everything (like the dude on Blackbeard's crew, for example), but I just took it as a less developed version of the cp9 ability (such as with Kuro), whereas Koby explicitly used shave.

I'm not sure about the other characters toei animation does love to reuse the sound effect. And it's actually the same sound effect that they use in dragon Ball. but Captain kuro definitely used shave. Luffy mentioned when he fighted against bluno that the way that they use shave is by tapping multiple with their feets on the ground. And you can actually see it animated when kuro use the technique.
The main difference between them is that when Kuro uses that technique, he cannot see what he is attacking, or how far he is going, whereas CP9 have mastered this ability

I just want to say that I really appreciate this series! I'm a diehard one piece fan who's almost caught back up after taking a few years away from the series and this has been an amazing way to recap the series thus far. I love hearing your thoughts and in depth analysis' of some of the smaller plot points within the arcs that might've been missed or forgotten over the years. Also since you're skipping filler I once again recommend One Pace, especially for the next arc as there are some pacing issues with pandering and stuff (45 episodes for an arc with 48 chapters).
I know you said you would try the anime's full experience, but having watched both versions I can say that you'll have a better time with the edited version that cuts some dragging parts and just stays truer to the manga original overall
That link is a guide btw, they managed to cut the 950 anime episodes into 450. They do this by removing horrendous amounts of filler and padding (mainly because the anime caught up to the manga, especially after the time skip)

One Pace is great for manga readers and/or rewatches, but when watching it first time it doesn't feel coherent at all..
Thriller Bark gets way too much hate, the pacing isn't that bad, it's like the old school horror shows that had that slow buildup middle part, its just that it's sandwiched between 2 extremely hype arcs/saga's, thus people tend to not like it as much.
But Thriller Bark has some of the funniest, saddest and most badass scenes ever in One Piece....

I dropped at the time in the middle of dressrosa and this year I revisited the all anime with one pace. Most stuff felt way better and the bigger notable cuts were in the foxy arc only. I went with it up to wano, then went back to the last arc still not edited by them. It became really slow, even tho the animation is top tier

Blackbeard's fruit also does the opposite of what other Logias do. While most Logias allow you to evade conventional attacks from fists to bullets, this Logia not only draws in attacks like you said, but his pain from ANY attack he receives is double the amount of pain it would've caused without the fruit's passive effect.

Yes Haki will be explained but dont expect it to be soon. There are detailed records of devil fruits in books, but there are lots of fruits that no one yet knows what they do, (more explaining of this later).

One Piece is one of the best pieces of media to ever go back and rewatch/reread. Oda foreshadows EVERYTHING, and you don't even realize it's happened until the reveal is already done, then your mind immediately jumps back to "OH WAIT THAT SCENE" and it's the most surreal feeling watching how **everything** has a payoff

Just in case no one said it but you seem to have not noticed but Black Beard mentionned a book in wich he discoverd the DF he came to desire, an index book with all known Devil Fruits in the record history(past)/recent years.
Kalifa and Kaku were unknown DF because they were not, either discovered or register by people/Gouvernement before Kalifa/Kaku they eat those fruits and expose their powers.
Hi Kortotos, Thanks for sharing this video. I didn't realize this. But you stated an area. Something triangle. Oda likes to reference real places in his story. But different versions. Our real place is Bermuda Triangle. Their is something else triangle haha.
I'm not saying that not reviewing the filler arcs is a bad thing, but I don't think you should skip them entirely. If you remember, the Warship Island arc introduced the anime to the calm belt (in the manga we where introduced to it by the crew just wandering into it while Nami wasn't looking and escaped from it almost the same way they did in the anime). The next filler arc does help introduces some of the new features of the Sunny, and to a lesser extent helps give some context about how dangerous someone (who I will not be naming) is.
Also, I should let you know moving forward that after this filler arc we won't be getting too much of them. We'll still get a few of them, but they'll mostly literally freeze the main story to hype up a movie that was coming out at the time. I should also warn you is used in place of filler is how the episodes will pad itself out (Dressrosa is infamous for that) and may also expand on a few things that the manga spent little time with. Also, be aware that some filler can mix into an arc, such as a few episodes in Logtown, Water 7 (as noted in this video) and half of the Davy Back Fights
In conclusion, you don't have to review the filler; but you should be aware of what is filler and should not skip it entirely

I'm surprised you didn't mention how the Florian Triangle is Inspired by the Bermudas Triangle, like Water 7 is based on Venecia. When I saw that name the first time, I was super excited to see what Oda would do with the concept and (no spoilers dw) though it wasn't exactly what I was expecting for the most part, the ending, as in the ending-ending (hint: it's a narration iirc) left me with some goosebumps 👀 I don't know if Oda will ever go back to that, but I'd love it if he did tbh.

Throughout your series so far you've probably made somewhere around 75-200 predictions, and I did make it a point to say this was the 1st time I have ever questioned the authenticity of any of them! and others have been correct like Luffy's dad for example. Every time you drop something as a joke, like the Dragon being Luffy's Dad thing, you found out was actually a thing in this arc, I burst into laughter and have to really hold back to not comment about it. It's hilarious to me.
Here's an important detail that cannot be ignored and explains a LOT of one piece world as a whole if no-one has told you before:
Oda's characterization through character design HAS to be taken into account when you see a character's design, this can also be used to dissect character later.
This is why Alvida (Ugly on the inside) should be Ugly on the outside when we first meet her. And her appearance only changes because of a Devil fruit which FORCES her to be beautiful.
Its why Koby (who is the same age as luffy!) who was weak and helpless, & Spineless, looked the way he did in the original portion of the story. His glow up (re-design) is not indicative of his age, but his characterization going forward.
This is why Helmeppo still has his hideous chin, but is a stronger(?) marine in stature as well.
This design philosophy isn't lost on the straw hats either in their designs (Except Nami, who is the centerpiece of :
Luffy - (Bright, persevering, Simple - Red) wears near nothing to protect from the elements & is highly informal and simple. (Straw hat, shorts, sandals, small Vest). His head is shaped like a circle, because its the simplest shape.
Ussop - (Fearful, Cowardly, Weak) Wears much more, but much like luffy is highly informal, but unlike luffy, everything except his arms and chest are covered because he often hides his insecurities. (Overalls, Du-rag, Goggles, Boots, waist scarf, Arm band) - The cape and Mask when sogeking are also to further cover him to show he is still very much afraid, but he's a super hero. His long nose is obvious, and he isn't meant to be the most attractive of the crew so his portrayal is meant to show off his insecurities as well. His head is shaped between a square and a circle.
Nami - (Intelligent, Sexy, Confident) She often wears open toed shoes and some form of a skirt to show that she has just as much confidence as Luffy. She sports far more variable outfits than the rest of the crew, but always has a sleeker "purposeful" look to them. She wore effectively business Casual when going to buy a ship (notice the Tie + Skirt). She is obviously "Attractive" in the stereotypical sense, and her, Chopper, and Robin all have a completely different design for Eyes than the rest of the crew to show that they are the "Attractive"/"Cute" characters. Nami's head is shaped to a point.
Zoro - (Unyielding, intimidating, "Action" cool) Never seen wearing shorts. Zoro has an immense passion in getting STRONGER as a swordsman (Haramaki, T-Shirt, Pants, Boots) always wears traditional Haramaki around his waist, which is meant to work as a body warmer and also (in traditional Japanese) ward off Evil curses and bad luck, it also used to be part of the body armor worn by traditional soldiers in Feudal Japan. I.E. Zoro's outfit not only showed he was a warrior and a swordsman, but could also have been used as a clue for his cursed sword. His head is shaped like a square because he is a sturdy individual. All of his features are sharp, including his chin and Hair. Much like his blades. The T-Shirt he wears is meant to show he doesn't really care much about his appearance. As you may have noticed, Shirtless characters in oda's series are shown as more confident. Keep that in mind.
Sanji - (Unyielding, Expressive, "Style" cool) Contrasting with Zoro in the realm of "Cool", Sanji has an immense passion in COOKING for his friends and wants to be certain that he looks the part all the time. Thats the important thing with Sanji's design. While Zoro's appearance is in the past articles of war, Sanji is Almost always Business formal, wearing typically a three piece suit. (Jacket, undershirt / vest, Pants, dress shoes) One eye is often covered & sporting a cigarette, he oozes style. As you've seen, he now has attacks that are based on a "Devils foot" technique wherein he sets his feet aflame, Oda has stated he can do this because Sanji's heart burns hotter than any flame, so he can take it. His head is shaped like a mixture of nami's and zoro's.
Chopper - (Child, innocent, caring) Chopper is meant to be cute obviously, and as oda has stated as far as wanted posters, is meant to be the "pet" of the crew. He often wears near nothing, as his design itself indicates exactly who he is. (Top hat with Medical symbol, Antlers, shorts, hands have hooves). There's not much more to chopper besides him also having the "Cute eyes" that nami and Robin have. His design is perfect. His head is a circle, when he transforms, his head shape changes accordingly.
Robin - (Sexy, Intelligent, Mature) Robin, like Nami has both the "Cute eyes" and "cuter features". She often has more clothing on than Nami, but with sprinkles of maturity (both in sexuality and modesty) in her design. Her features are a sharper version of Nami's contrasting the two well there. Not much more to say about her. She's effectively Nami but more reserved, while also wearing more accents in her clothes.
Franky - (Boisterous, Uncontrollable, Eccentric ) Unlike the other members, Franky's design was extrapolated from Mr. 2. So it would be best to look at him (Oda designed Franky after the anime caught up to Mr. 2, stating that he enjoyed the VA's performance so much that he had to give him a full character). Mr. 2 wore for dancing, much like Franky wears for sunbathing. Both outfits show little to no effort to show their actual character mechanics, as mr. 2 was an excellent fighter, and Franky is an excellent Shipwright. Although, unlike Mr. 2, in a crowd, franky is far more resolute and confident, which is shown in his flare , "Johnny bravo" hairstyle, sunglasses, and wide open shirt. Besides that, the outfits are purely eccentric, Both of their head shapes are the same (and both have pointed "butt" chins) with Franky having 1 extra...(cheek?).

We do get an explicit age for all of the strawhats. The manga has sections all throughout it since like volume 4 where fans write in questions and the author answers them. One of them being what are the ages of all the strawhats.
I believe haki means willpower or something along those lines in Japanese, so you're pretty much right.

As far as we are concern it had been at most two months in the story. Yes, Coby grow up a lot but it's know that the straw hats have been in the grand line for very little time, and most of the arcs happen around 3 days.
