This is the best episode I've ever listened to. Congrats on this one guys. Syed is the ultimate goal in terms of business for me (probably for a lot of us too).
This got me pumped. Probably one of my favorite MFM pods in a while. It's interesting how those I know who are successful business owners also buy small business for specific things they want in life. For example, my cousin wanted to buy a new house. Said he would only do it if he bought a new business to cover the cost of the monthly payment. Similar to Syed buying the gas station when he had his son.
Money is not meant to control people, rather it is meant to be put to work producing more money for you. You cannot build wealth without putting money in its rightful place.
First profit grew rapidly and that has made me invest without the fear of losing, I got four of my friends that I introduce to him and they are making profits just like me..
Gold! Great story, particularly on the atypical route of bootstrapping around an ecosystem/thesis. This gets drowned out by all the venture backed approaches/frameworks. Thanks Syed for being so frank and generous with your story!
These conversations open up your mind to what’s possible. Something you wouldn’t have if you haven’t built your network yet. Thanks make entrepreneurship less lonely.
Such amazing content!!! I loved your question about distressed assets at 37min. The distinction given by Syed on mismanaged gems vs distressed assets was significant. Mismanaged compounders would make for excellent acquisitions.
Excellent episode. Loved the talk of his ealry days working with WP to the present day AI tools and strategy tips. As someone else mentioned, this epside reminds me of all the dabbling I did when I was younger but never really pursued one thing. Nonetheless, it was so insightful and inspiring. Thanks guys!
Now, it's a lot simple to go from nothing to hundreds of millions (if that's something you want) I appreciate this episode and the chance to learn from Syed.
1:14:06 Crazy, 10 years ago I was in tribal Easter Afghanistan/Pakistan at border security point 6 and 7 fighting Haqqani network from Pakistan, dodging rockets - while this awesome dude made himself a billi 😅😅😅How the turn tables. Goodnight from Alaska boys, Syed is awesome!!
What this guy has done is extremely impressive in just about every measure. That said I couldn't help but notice how his investment approach could in some sense be flawed. He says that whenever he has a new expense come up he needs to make a new investment that generates enough cash flow to cover this new expense, but this then implies that he wasn't actually fully invested in the first place, or at least wasn't invested in a way that would generate him the best possible return. He implies that he would have money laying around to invest in something that would generate enough of a return to cover this new monthly burn, which is obviously not great because you would be leaving money on the table by having this money laying around waiting to be invested in the first place. The more general and correct approach would be to simply always be invested in a way where you cannot find any higher risk adjusted return than what you currently have, and then simply decide how much you want to spend of your income. If a new cost is coming up and you take that on you, then you have decided that its worth it. Great episode. Thanks.
His "no mortgages, no debt" comment around time 53:30 - if you have 10 year debt taken out at 3% on 200 units, coming due for a refi right about now at 7% or 8% (or worse), maybe you need THAT kind of 'moment of clarity' to understand what Syed implies. Leverage is a double edged sword. In economic shocks, you don't want to lose your assets at the worst time. It's extremely comfortable saying "sure business is slow but no one's coming to take this from me and wipe out all the equity and the time I spent" Also, Syed's avoidance of 'limelight seeking' can work. "Anonymity is priceless - once it's gone, you cannot buy it back" If you like your privacy which Syed seemingly does, knowing you can go anywhere and not be recognized is very nice. Having people interrupt you when you're at dinner with family, some people might be okay with that, but after a few times, with no control over who might approach you, would not be cool (if you like privacy). .
I did search for Syed's net worth as mentioned at the end and was surprised that even though I didn't know who he was, that I'd been using some of his wp plug ins for years! 😊
That was a very great interview. I wish he could go into more details about the cash flow from the tools that he purchased. Like what those tools are, and how do they earn money. If anyone has any information, I appreciate it
53:21 I see both sides of this coin. At his level it will not affect his personal experience in life, he is set. I have friends that will wind up scraping by in the future because they are afraid to invest and or use leverage. That nut won’t cut.
Great pod! As always you guys bring the best Guest and questions. i love Mfm! But let the guy finish what he is saying before you intervene with a painting the picture story” felt like we lost some of what he was saying.
This is the best episode I've ever listened to. Congrats on this one guys. Syed is the ultimate goal in terms of business for me (probably for a lot of us too).
💯 agree
Syed Balkhi is an institution. How can a young man be this impressive? Like. Wow! I'm banging the table in excitement. Totally inspired.

I love Sam, I do, but the kind of questions Shaan is asking is just phenomenal. That helps in unearthing a lot of the story.
Potential GOAT episode
20:33 Best Part/Secret. Got to know him better in this candid episode compared to other videos of him. Best Wishes.

My mentor has the same story except enterprise Salesforce sites and MS. founded in 2019 sold January 2023 for $135m. He just turned 29.

Amazing episode
The “fun creative cashflow things” that he wouldn’t talk about need an episode 59:01
I did search for Syed's net worth as mentioned at the end and was surprised that even though I didn't know who he was, that I'd been using some of his wp plug ins for years! 😊
One of my top episodes
Syed I don't know if you will see this but this has been the best ROI of my time. Thank you.
Absolute legend. Best episode yet 👊
That was a very great interview. I wish he could go into more details about the cash flow from the tools that he purchased. Like what those tools are, and how do they earn money. If anyone has any information, I appreciate it
Love the pod :) one of the better ones ^^
What an amazing guy
This guy is the final boss of Indian gas station owners 😂
No he isn’t. There is a guy in New Jersey he is Indian and is a billionaire from gas stations.
