      Maybe if it was vs anyone else, but gukesh is not the same as Carlsen or caruana etc.
      Ding has record of like +2=6 vs gukesh, and the last win was in tata 2024(first win in tata 2023). That was during dings slump already in 2024, but he still destroyed gukesh in convincing fashion.
      So based on history and matchup, ding would still be overwhelming favourite. Gukesh is still young and inexperience. Like 17, maybe 18 now only.

    Ding often comes close to winning major tournaments but falls short at critical moments. He has faced his main rivals-Magnus, Ian, and Fabiano-numerous times, but his overall record against them doesn't always favor him. Against Magnus, Ding has struggled to consistently defeat him. His games against Ian have been "meh". Fabiano has also held his ground against Ding fairly well. In rapid and blitz chess, Ding doesn't consistently dominate his rivals. Magnus, for example, excels in rapid and blitz formats, whereas Ding's performance is more modest. For this reason, I don't see Ding to be all that great of a chess player. Yes, he'd beat the vast majority of players around the world, but when up against his main rivals, he's outmatched.

    @GothamChess I love when you take the eval bar away like in the hikaru v. pragg game! Please consider doing that more. I loved when it used to always be like that. Makes the games much more interesting when we don't have a computer evaluating the situation for us. Keep up the good work, Levy!

    World champion at the bottom of the leaderboard while the actual best chess player in the world is at the top. FIDE is a joke. So concerned with the public perception of chess, yet they let this happen.

    • @skip3508
      @skip3508 3 месяца назад

      I mean Hikaru let it happen by not doing enough in the candidates. Also, the best player in the world is in third currently. The person in second has struggled immensely at the previous two candidates.

    • @ricolorenz7307
      @ricolorenz7307 3 месяца назад

      @@skip3508 Hikaru has said over and over that he prioritizes streaming over chess. He still plays seriously, but he doesn't dedicate the time that the other guys do. It's a testament to his skill that he's even able to compete at all.

    • @skip3508
      @skip3508 3 месяца назад

      @@ricolorenz7307He is playing better now than previously. I would argue it is more of a testament of his biggest barrier being mental. There is no reason to think he is the best. His record against Magnus is atrocious, he has failed to ever win a cantidates. He never competed in the world championship. His rating has sniffed 2nd once for a short amount of time. He is definitely in the top ten, there is an argument for the top 5 as well. I think it is hard to make a logical argument that he is the best based on tournament history and ranking though. Also he chose streaming, you can't blame FIDE for that choice fully (he went for a route that made more money and was less stressful, completely reasonable).

    Levi failed to mention that because of the tournament not being over the FIDE ratings haven't updated, and with Magnus' loss to Pragg, Fabiano was one win away from becoming world #1. So if he HAD ended up beating Magnus, he would have become world #1

    In re the World Chess Championship format: I hate how it's always challenger vs champion. The reigning champion should have to fight for the right to compete in the championship match just like everyone else.
