This video demonstrates how to perform fuzzy or partial match lookups in Excel. There are two scenarios where you might need to use a partial match:
When the lookup value is partial
When the lookup table contains partial strings.
    The video covers both scenarios.
In Office 365 we can use XLOOKUP and FILTER to perform fuzzy or partial matches, but in older versions of Excel we have to use VLOOKUP, MATCH and INDEX. The SEARCH and ISNUMBER functions are also used. The video demonstrates how to use all these functions, so no matter what version of Excel you are using you will find a solution here.

This tutorial is criminally underrated, especially the index/match part of it. I am sorry so few people have seen it up to now. Many thanks to the provider.

Really good tutorial. Didn't help me with what I needed but it helped me in other ventures instead.
Was just trying to find a way to find to find the mode of a range of text based off criteria that relies on a partial text lookup. was hoping to bastardize index-match and mode together and couldn't figure out how to work that into a partial text lookup. Ah well, maybe I'll figure out a way to do it in the future.

Hello Chester thanks for the tutorial. If we expect multiple partial matches how can we modify the formula to grab the largest or smallest match?

Chester, great overview but one major issue... the filter function is also only available in the 365 version! I'm running 2016 and don't have that function, checked Microsoft reference material and it indicates it's only available in 365.
