That's great to hear! You'll have an amazing time! There's been plenty of snow in Norway lately, so most likely all the slopes will be open in February. :)

Looks nice! My wife and I are going to Hafjell for a couple days soon. We snowboard and she hates cat tracks and flat runs where it's easy to get stuck on a snowboard. Any recommended runs or ones to stay away from?

Hey! Awesome! You’re in luck-both cat tracks are featured in this video. The first one is at the top of the gondola (there’s a big flat area from 4:25 to 5:30 in the video). If you’re going from slope 1 to slope 3, make sure to carry enough speed to clear it. In the video, there were too many people around, so I adjusted my speed and ended up unstrapping. The second cat track is at the start of slope 3 (you can see it from 5:39 to 5:52 in the video).
      Here’s a link to the map: www.hafjell.no/media/1678
I’m not aware of your skill level, but regardless, I highly recommend the blues and reds on the left side of the mountain (seen from the top, but on the right on the map), especially slopes 8, 24, 41, and 42. Be careful on the black part of slope 41, as it tends to be very icy; sticking to the sides where snow accumulates is usually the safest option. Personally, my favorites are green slope 3, which has curves and a natural shape that feels perfect on a board, and slope 42, which isn’t very popular, so the conditions stay great throughout the day.
The H chairlift usually has shorter lines, allowing you to lap slope 42 repeatedly. At one point on slope 42, there’s a tangent leading to blue slope 24. While it might look like a cat track, it’s quite manageable. Just be aware that the F T-bar lift crosses this slope. I’ve never seen a line form at this T-bar, and the day after this recording, we used it to lap slope 42 non-stop. Slopes 44 and 3 also have their own T-bar lift (D), which rarely has lines, giving you even more opportunities to ride all day without standing in lines.
Let me know if you have any other questions-I’d be happy to help.
As for blue slope 23, I’m not a big fan of riding it to the bottom (you can see it from 8:22 to the end of the video). Unfortunately, on this day, it was the only slope open to the bottom. It tends to get crowded with many Jerry's pizza-ing their way down, creating big ruts and unpredictable icy patches. Since it’s not particularly wide, passing others can be risky.

@@spray_skiers Hey! Thank you so so much for the detailed response, I appreciate it a lot! This is very helpful and will help us focus on the areas that will be most fun since we don't have many days there. I'll be sure to reach out with anymore questions. My wife thanks you as well for pointing us away from cat tracks. 🤣 Thanks again! :)

      @@AlexKowal Hey Alex! 😊
You’re so welcome-I'm really glad the info was helpful! I know how frustrating it can be to go to a new resort and not know any of the good spots or slopes, then later you catch some awesome clip of a good spot that you didn't manage to get to. frustrating.
So I’m happy to help. I’m sure you and your wife will have an amazing trip!
Feel free to reach out with any other questions-I’m always happy to share more tips. Wishing you both tons of fun!
Take care, and enjoy every moment! 🏂❄

@@spray_skiers Yes, exactly!! 😁Well I guess since you're offering... any favorite restaurants in town? We're staying at the base of Hafjell, near the highway. Thanks again!!

Hey Alex, sorry for the late reply here! you know i would definitely recommend being a true snowboarder and stack up on snacks for the hours in the slope (personal favorites is nuts - because they dont freeze and are calorie dense , also if you like kitKat's try "Kvikk Lunsj" its a classic Norwegian chocolate-covered wafer bar that has become a cultural icon in Norway! - also dont freeze and chocolate is good calories)
At the top of the gondola there's a restaurant "skavelen". This restaurant does not offer seating unless you buy food (35$+ dishes).
Usually when we go there (friend group) we shop our groceries at kiwi at the bottom, then we make the food ourselves (typically taco or homemade pizzas), so unfortunately i cannot give you any recommendations!
However, at our latest trip, a couple of friends actually got some food from "asia kjøkken" (asian kitchen) before they drove up the steep roads to the cabin.
And they did not have any complaints, so i guess it cant be that bad ;)
I'm sorry i couldnt be of more help, but considering the beer prices (12$ at restaurants) we save whatever money we can for a cold one in the slope :)
