I wanted it to blow my head off

- I really wanted this curry to blow my head off...... but it was nowhere near unfortunately. Even the server convinced me it would be Vindaloo hot but instead it was a super mild curry accompanied by one chipati and some boiled rice. I wanted it to be alot better but you cant win them all. Just opposite Kings Cross station on the Grays Inn road. It did not blow my head off - in fact, not even a tingle. My head certainly was not blown off at this Indian restaurant. This was not a curry I will order again - far too mild for Darren John. #vindaloo #darrenjohn #blowmyheadoff
Hi Darren, hope you are well mate ? Great Vlog as always, love the sites and food of London, you are spoilt for choice !!! Take care on them bikes !!! It only blew my ears off curry. 😂😂😂😂
You are always up front and honest shame it did reach expectations. Another great vlog. Thanks Colin.
You have to take the rough with the smooth to find those little gems. Luckily London is filled with amazing Indian restaurants. Definitely craving a curry now!
Very true Corrina
The last few vlogs seems to me that London is beginning to price itself out
For you average Joe living outside London especially the last few lunches you’ve had
A good honest review as always thank you
Nice one Andy
I agree,it's getting out of hand is London
Thanks for this one DJ
Never mind u are going to get a few like this, that was way over the top for water lucky u did not have a beer but it is what it is, great content and we all know where not to go 😊
I'm with you Darren every now and again I go mega hot. As you know this varies from restaurant to restaurant. Had many a phall and naga dishes. I was once in having a meal and ordered a chicken Bangalore phall and the waiter tried to put me off saying it was very very hot. Ordered it anyway. After it was brought out and I started eating it the chef came out of the kitchen to watch me eat it. He was gobsmacked but I loved it.
I do enjoy a curry probably once a month you DJ must Live off them lol 😂🤣 great video again mate 👍🏻
Such a shame it didn't live up to your expectations. I won't even comment on the cost of that water 😂 As for you not being tight, that is definitely true. It's very clear that you are a very generous person and are more than happy to spend money on quality and when it's worth it. Sad this wasn't one of those times. Love and appreciate your honesty though. Hopefully the next one is better. 😁👍🏼
You can still call it that but with a sub-title ‘but failed’. Still a great vid.
Madras is my limit fella and loving the updates as usual. 👍
Looked yum ❤ good soundtrack on this one
A shame it didn't live up to expectations but you say it as it is and that's what I like about your vlogs. Look forward to the next one.
I think you probably subsidised people having the lunch menu !!! Love your vlogs 😎
Wow Tartarian London,, food looked tasty 👍
Honest as always ... I am looking forward to your roadtrip soon ... regards from the Philippines.
Now there's a place I would love to go
Very diplomatic Darren 👍
Darren reminded me of someone famous and I couldn't think who...Then it dawned on me, Chris Difford from Squeeze.😀
Right, a blow your head off curry! I've paused the video, because I am there on Thursday, because my daughter is off back to Leicester Uni. I will go with your recommendation, so it better be good. Now I press play.
No recommendation here I'm afraid
Tourist hotspot the cross mate keep the great work coming, loving it....
Your face said it all mate , great vlog many thanks
It's good in a way to show your honesty and how we all don't always get a great deal ect.Great flavour with a strong bitter after taste
DJ, the prices are going through the roof. When I go out to eat(which is a lot less these days by the way)I pay a lot more for smaller portions. I think there a lot of factors but the customers are getting charged excessively. Take care.
Cool, now I've got to the end. I trust your judgement. I'll go next door on Thursday. 😎
Well, darn it. It didn't look red enough or have enough spices in it from what it looked like. I could tell from your first bite, that it wasn't bringing the heat. Anyway, it did taste good just not hot and you've got better places to go. Great video anyway, Mr.John.
was that off the "£7.95" Menu ? I've seen these where as its a "Special" lunch menu or whatever they basically just knock up a mass curry, then customer orders adapt it to preference in your case Murgh Masala |Vindaloo Hot which obviously wasn't the case. I tend to stay clear of these Specials as a lot of them literally are not that!
I know exactly where your coming from with i fancy a Hot Curry! I have this feeling often and need a "Fix". I went out for one last week which fixed that itch!!!!! Lamb Tikka Naga Jal Piaza was the drug supplied! :o) Keep up the great work DJ!
A fiver for a bottle of water…..I’m fuming for you!!
Well it is London & the bottle looked mint, it could have been Peckham spring for all I'm concerned.
You should know by now its London 🤷♂️
@@andywrong3247 oi that's proper water that m8 😂😂😂😂😂
Doesn't matter the cost, he'll make it all back from the video. 😂
Yeah, a fiver for a bottle of still water is outrageous. Darren should have had the pint.
When i use to live in Rhyl years ago Darren there use to be a Indian resturant that use to a really good curry extra hot and it was . Then one night i fancied a good hot curry and it changed hands told them what i wanted like i use to have . It had a decent bit of heat but it was over powered by cabbage juice taste as it looks like they made there sauces from the water boiled in cabbage as it really spoilt it never went back there again.
Looked like a Vesta curry from the 1970's
See you then soon in Boracay, Philippines. Off the Charts.
It’s rubbish when you’re looking forward to some food and it doesn’t live up to your expectation. And then it’s not good value too :(
It didn’t look that good either DJ . Stick to city spice mate your vlogs there always make my mouth water !
Darren, your face said it all, that chicken looked bitty, hope it wasn’t left overs, you didn’t get what you wanted, you got what the waiter wanted you to have. Was that holy water 😮, cheeky git’s. Great vlog 👍
It looked delicious! 😍🤩🥰
Hi there, another great video from you like always. Keep up the good work and I do enjoy all your videos and I hope to get to London hopefully later in the year to do some filming for herself and just to let you know we have put a video up now on our channel for you After yesterday and thank you for asking as well and I hope you’re well
Cool, I will watch now
Aaah, well, at least we've seen it! You certainly are NOT a tight wad! You spoil Macmaster when he comes down & anyone else if you ask me. My hubby's like you with his bonce blowing, tongue tinglers! ( curries, that is 😂). It makes my eyes water just watching him eat them. I'm a wuss when it comes to spice. I used to be able to handle madras, but, alas, no more 😢.
Thanks Sue
Had your trousers down there...
A warning to all to be careful and do your research in London.
That looked like left over chicken tarted up. Anyhow atleast we know what place to avoid if you want the heat. Thank you sweet xx
Lunch time is never gonna be great
@@leemc5646 I've never been there, so I'm going by what I saw. But I'd rather go to one of the better quality curry houses that DJ has shown us. They're consistently delish x
Mate 5 quid for water, that's nearly $10 Australian. Nope. Oh I have a mate who's from sri Lanka and he invited me for dinner. Chicken curry, it was so hot I didn't know who to call. An ambulance, fire brigade or a plumber. Talk about a ring of fire. True story. Cheers mate have a good one 👍
Love it
Love when you get a good hot curry but that didn't look off the charts. Good vid as usual DJ
£5 for water thought you bought shares in it wont be visiting there any day soon
The Pringle man
Awww no hot curry this time Darren. Disappointing for you especially when it's just what you felt like having! But enjoyable to watch as always. Enjoy the rest of your day. 🥰🌞🥰Xxx
Thanks June
It's the one reason I'm not more adventurous, I tend to stick with where I know it's to my liking. Variety is the spice of life though Darren & you gave it a try!
Most of the indian restaurants in London are owned by Bangladeshis. I suggest you go to Authentic Indian restaurant in Southall. Proper Indian food. The prices for this place were daylight robbery. Can I suggest the Brilliant in Southall
Yep they are indeed mainly Bangladesh owned restaurants.
All these British Indian Style curries are for the western palette.
Yeah DJ theres something addictive about hot curry u know its going to hurt but u still want it 😂😂😂
Awww your little face though? You could see the disappointment when you took the second bite. But even so it was critiqued very politely.
Thanks for sharing Darren have a lovely evening. Stay safe.
The face says a thousand words
@@DarrenJohn awww yes ☺️
Definitely swerve that one DJ. Thanks for the review.
Another great vlog my go to curry is a madras but as you say every now and again you want something with an extra little kick, i am not tight and quite happy to pay good money for good product but that was extortion thanks for another honest vlog Darren.
Nice one Paul
Ankh-Morpork mate what do you expect 🤣
Appreciate this comment will be lost on many 😁
Bikers always need that little bit extra adrenalin , it's how we roll 👍
Thank DJ that’s one I’ll never bother with
A fiver for water, was it Peckham spring ?😂
Love a bit of Kings Cross though, OTC 👍
Shame you were left disappointed mate. I'm like you, i love really hot curry's so if i go for one then i expect it to at least bring out a sweat lol. It did look nice to be fair but definitely didnt look overly filling for the price. Great vlog as always buddy and very honest review. Cheers for sharing as always 👍👍
I could take you to a couple of nice places you would like in Ontario, one for jerk wings and the other for Vindaloo. I cant handle stuff that hot anymore. Butter chicken for me these days.
If it doesn't make you sweat and cry it's not curry, it's stew. Nice review, 👍
Yes Darren another fantastic vlog I needed to see ❤❤❤cheered me up after a hell of a week for the UK people and everyone else of course. Your the best. A duo London vlog soon one hopes hehhehe xxxxx
Yeah of course - if the logistics works 🙏🏼👍🏼
@@DarrenJohn we both hope to be in London Paddington in the next few weeks so will let you know and see if we can arrange a meet up. Even if it's not a vlog and a meet for some London vibes and food . This would be amazing . Your vlogs always cheer me up so much love them xxxxxxxx
Iam shocked 😲 that was a ridiculous price won't be going there 😳 love ya vlogs
£28 quid! At our local take away we can get starters 2 mains, pilau rice and a huge naan bread for that. I could tell by your face it was average. Lol. 👍
Look I like your channel I even watch the fry up videos you do and I don't eat fry ups. Now you know how my wife and I felt about the curry we had down Brick Lane! No offence, that curry you had could have blown our hats off. Oh well, on to the next. Thanks Darren.
Trust me Paul, it was a korma level - no spice at all
You ought to go to Bradford for a curry. Plenty of curry houses there!
One day
London is magical x
Chapati is always best choice comparatively naan.. It is easy to digest. Veg curry looks awesome. And happy to see that sir this time u took water instead of beer. Now that is called healthy and valuable content..definitely price was too high 😮. Great vlog sir.
No, it depends on the meal and whatever tickles your fancy. With a dry curry, like aloo Gobi and okra, a roti goes well, with a saucy dish, beef madras or mutter paneer, nan is better!. Nothing wrong with a lot of beers(I'm a cider man) with your meal!
Looked a good menu , noticed they sell Dhal Makhani , that’s a Pakistani dish .. glad your flavours were good ..
There's something addictive about hot curries. I find myself not 'fancying' one but really craving them. It's weird but for those that like them, the heat becomes a necessity. Can you get addicted to chilli or hot food, like some people are with chocolate??
£28 for that.....Even Dick Turpin wore a mask! Should have stuck to the £7 menu, would still had the same size curry! 😉😊
😂😂
Nope only you Darren! And fancying a hot one usually referred to a 5 foot 6 inch nordic blonde in my youth!! 😆
If only. ha
Easy tiger😉
I used to get a 'staff ' option from a place called the Kushoom Koly (sadly gone) It was chicken or lamb on the bone and I would have loved to have taken you there Daz as it had immense flavour as well as mind-blowing hot. Hot in beautiful way!
He looked really interested
Didn't he. 😂
Well you got to try these places. Disappointing but hey ho . Plenty more to try . X
Have you tried Cafe Spice Namaste....its moved to very nice premises, but I used to go there when it was in Prescott St. Its a Parsee restaurant.
Amazing food.
I don't recall
Love your curry videos mate shame you haven’t been on one with the McMaster lately
That tosser MacMaster only ever orders chicken tikka masala. DJ is much better off without him.
Your face said it all & £5.00 for water 💧 what a ripoff but thanks DJ 🤗
Far too expensive but you don’t know until you try
Disssapointed to here that DJ.
We are visiting London this Sunday & I need of a recommendation for a good Indian restaurant you seem to have a great palate so in you we trust lol !
We arrive & depart from Marylebone so around this area would be good also a licensed place where we could quaff a few Kingfisher’s would be also great, you’re advise would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks ❤
I recommend The India 2 - check out their website
Hello Darren we went to City Spice and now it's our go-to place for Indian food we were so impressed we have been back 3. times I we thank you for the heads up on that but a fiver for water I got a big bottle of Kingfisher for that at City Spice
Glad you enjoyed it Ray
Twenty eight quid for a small portion of what you didn't want, and weren't promised? Sorry Lee, I would have said something; nothing rude, just the truth. That's also why I always carry a small bottle of Matouk's Trinidad Scorpion Pepper Sauce. Oh, and it's off the charts, believe me!
Curry, rice and a chapatti for £23!
Another great vlog, looking forward to you going to Tenerife on your motorcycle,do you know how long it will take you about or is that a secret 😉
Come to New York City, there is an Indian restaurant that offers a Phaal Challenge that if you finish it you get a free pitcher of beer. There is also a Himalayan restaurant that is family owned and offers some nice curry dishes as well. As I've mentioned before, I love your vlogs because of your honesty , you show the best and the not so good places.
's served up by robots I saw a video about this, It's good! n Brick Lane NYC.
@@pauljennings8432 Yes, that is the place. I've eaten there but didn't try the Phaal, I couldn't handle it!
That's a shame. Not particularly good value - even for that neck of the woods. I know it's a chain but the Dishoom spicy lamb chops and fresh garlic naans come in at £20 with free filtered water on the table.
lahore kebab house . Commercial road , whitechapel, lamb chops mate !!! omfg!! I travelled from bristol for them . worth every penny!!
Bloody hell Forfar water is expensive in London!
That's a pity, Darren. Looked like chicken curry from a can. Odd texture 😔. Fingers crossed your next one does blow you away and your head off! Thanks for the videos
If you come out from Waterloo Stn and go towards the bridge that takes you to Embankment, just before the steps there are some street food tents. Last Sat I tried another curry from the guys who are right next to the road, you can see them as you approach the steps. £9.00 for a medium curry, delicious and recomended again. They are just as good last year, will try the hot one next time, there are three to choose from.
I filmed there 3 years ago - great place
@@DarrenJohn Ooops, that probably why I went there in the first place ..... sorry :)
Darren, thank you for this video. Every time I'm in that area I walk past this place thinking surely its a tourist trap, surely the food can't be great if its in such a prime location.. I think that assumption may be correct, but you did like next door? did you make a video for that one too? Thanks. Nile
Yes I did Nile, it was really good
It did look nice, however as you said looked small and the water was a rip off. Never mind once bitten and all that 😂
A complete rip of my friend. £5 for a water, even if it was Scottish, they’re at it! The chicken didn’t even look decent, at least it was flavoursome and the rice looked OK. The service didn’t appear to be that decent either if they didn’t listen to your order. Looking forward to your next one. All the best Darren. 👍
Would they have have charged for a tap water?
@@pauljennings8432 Good question Paul, I already questioned myself about that and thought Darren maybe asked for bottled water. All the best 👍
Ohhhhhhh i'm going to not watch if you carry on......omg that looks amazing lol x
I would have gone for King Prawn Vindaloo....i juat love king prawns
I thought the curry and rice looked good good size for me and I'm a big fella, 5 quid for a bottle of water is crazy, can't say anything about the heat but I always ask for a phal when I go so I'm never disappointed
Always loved a hot one , usually a chilli 🌶️ masala but can’t cope with the contractions the next day 😢
How old might you be, I'm in my sixties and totally understand, when I was 20s/30s I had addiction to hot curries and would have them Three days a week. Man if I did that now I would be 30 stone! (and inflamed)
I’m with you all the way my friend every now and again I my body craves something really hot and spicy so I will either make a crazy hot curry from scratch or I have to order a naga vindaloo but ask for it slightly sweet I don’t mean tikka masala sweet I like it in the middle of that for flavour
Try bang bang oriental in colindale. It's fab 👍
You are funny dj
Garlic Chilli Chicken all day long , yes go for your Phalls and all that shite but this is the winner Chicken dinner .
Great Vlog, shame mate as you could tell it was not what you went in for and £5 for a water????? WHAT.
I like a hot microwave curry after a few beers lol 😋
Hi arrrr I can't enjoy hot like tika maslala. But love bombay potatoes spicy ,never mind but least you gave that restaurant a try . Prop be better having the set meal twice ha ha thanks Darren j .
Quite expensive for what you had. Food looked ok, but not Vindaloo hot. I would have sent it back after first taste and asked them to spice it up. Or you could take a small tin of Keens Curry in with you and sprinkle a bit on your curries to blow your head off lol.
6/10 from me, price OTT, small portions and lack of heat in a curry recommended by waiter knocked the points off big time.
£28 quid for white boiled rice and a Pataks curry? They seen you coming Darren
Seen it many times as I sit in the window of Five Guys
