That on the fly mod with the vicegrips @18:45 is awesome. I bought the $60 Oetiker ear clamping tool for those stupid band clamps. It did not work. It just crushes the little ears where the tool engages; worthless. Glad to see someone was able to cinch the factory band clamp. Even my local indy tried and could not get the Oetiker tool to close it enough to lock. The aftermarket clamp that I used instead leaks grease, too.
Actually that was my first time messing with them clamps, saw them more than one place never touched it, but hey guess what I had to complete the job. So that gerber mod came in handy.
If you're looking for the torque specs it's 210Nm +90 degrees for the hub nut 90Nm+180 degrees for the outer bolt of the wishbone 85Nm+180 degrees for the inner bolt of the wishbone Repair manual says that all bolts should be replaced, including the spring behind the hub bolt. Also, the wishbone bolts must be hand tight until you lower the car and with the car on the ground and suspension loaded, tighten to spec.
Hello! I tried to change my axle boot today, and struggled with that clamp for 2,5 hours with no successes. I also slightly shaved a notch on the tip of some pliers, and forced the small pliers together with a big one, as far as it would close but even then I was always 2 mm away from the locking notches to click in and lock. Felt completly impossible to pinch the clamp enough for it to lock. Any ideas? Car is in pieces left at work on our only lift🙈
Sorry for the late reply, I think there is a tool for those band clamp, but at the moment I had only a gerber which I modified, I hope you got through though.

You can have the car on ramps when torquing the suspension bolts to get some room underneath.
Thanks for the torque specs……….🙏
Nice video!! Thanks for pretty explanatory video. Great job!
Thanks for watching, I try to share as I learn.
Nice work. If you want to have real fun, remove and replace the right front axle on a 535 x drive!
Yes, I did it on my back. Great fun.

Thanks for the video. Did you loose some oil from the differential when you pulled the axle out?
Sorry for the late reply....no I didn't......when I pulled it out the car was left sitting in my driveway and their was no signs of oil leak
@@relaxwithclancy1073 thank you!
Good job. I think you could have cleaned the CV hub without taking it off the axle, could have saved a step.
My question to you now, how would you get the boot on……🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔………food for thought.
Nice upload 😀 🌸
