I love that you take a piece of wood that most people would pass over and make something beautiful! Good to see you in Fine Woodworking!
Small projects like that are great. Fairly straightforward and satisfying to do with out a long commitment to the project.
That's great, Matt. It's always nice to be able to do something for family. I'm sure she liked it, too.
Tell your sister it's not the size of the Serving board, it's what she puts on it that makes the difference.
In America???
Hahaha.
If she is Italian she will, know what to serve and how
That's spectacular. Keep coming with the variety ( sawmill, trailer shop projects).
What a great way to preserve and utilize smaller pieces with really special grain patterns. I can imagine the number of such scraps and cutoffs that would otherwise get tossed out.
Matt, I really enjoy your videos! i started building furniture as a hobby in 1983. I make a lot of stuff over the years. My pride and Joy are two things, a cherry roll top secretary desk for my wife, and three quartersawn white oak tool chests. Also I no longer have a shop any longer, I can relate to what you are doing.
It would be great to see her reaction to the tray. It is always nice when you have a brother that takes care of you... Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and Seasons Greetings. Thanks for sharing!
It is always a pleasure to watch you make great items from wood others may not use. It has been great watching your channel this year. I am looking forward to 2020 and seeing your projects and adventures. All the best to you and your family this Christmas season!.
I can't believe you did this for your sister. You are the kindest brother on the planet. I can't imagine any of my five brothers doing anything so nice as that for me.
That’s kind of sad. Why is that? Is it how you were raised? As a dad with little kids including a daughter, how can I make sure this doesn’t happen in our future?
@@beck204 Just keep them close together, especially during the teen years. Make certain they do nice things for one another. Make certain that older brothers understand their roles as protectors of younger siblings.
Usually not a big fan of epoxy pieces that I've seen. What you've done with that board is beautiful. Blends very nicely with the existing wood grain. Your sister should be very pleased.
Thanks Jim!
Very nice and will make a great gift. I'm sure your sister will cherish this for many years to come.
thank you!
Your sister ought to be a happy camper it looks good 🇮🇱🎅🤶🎄
That is a diverse piece of wood, pretty sweet. Always enjoy your positivity.
Nice project, like the live edge. Made with love by your brother Matt. Enjoy your time together. Reminds me I need call my sister. Thanks for sharing.
Great piece of work, Matt. Can see why you enjoyed it. All best wishes for the season and 2020!!
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thank you for sharing your story
Beautiful! It is also real good to see you so happy!
Oh to have a giant jointer and giant planer. And I was pretty impressed at your bench vise.
Got to remember to have fun once in a while. Nice build
It is amazing what Matthew can do! I want one! The scene using it to serve wood-stuff had me laughing!!!
Gorgeous wood + epoxy = stunning results 😲
Congrats on a beautiful project, Matt.
Thanks Jim!
Thanks for explaining well, you boost confidence to the amateurs
One thing I want to comment on, it is so good to see a woodworker like yourself that keeps his hand tools sharp, like the draw knife used to remove the bark. I've watched other woodworkers and it's painful to watch them struggle with a dull cutting tool. I enjoy your videos very much. Keep up the good work.
I don't see much logic in trying to use a tool that's not sharp. Wouldn't be as pleasant to use. Thanks!
It looks great, Matt! Your expression as you brought the board out with a variety of fine tools and finishes @18:08 is priceless! 😂
Who wouldn't like ?
It turned out beautiful.
That thing turned out really nice! Awesome job!
Gorgeous board man. I appreciate the explanation of your resin clarity choice
I hope she loved it and appreciated your hard work.
I came to this from your huge silver maple log cutting. I really enjoyed this a lot more than the sawmill cutting though. Great job!
As always, beautiful work !
Looking good Matthew, great job on the serving tray for Sister. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you!
nice! i like your commentary because its more like a conversation instead of step by step instructional. keep up the fine work...Happy Holidays!
Nice job, Matt. Happy Holidays to you and your family
Very nice Matt, always learn something! Thanks again.....
I just started following you and I am enjoying it immensely. What no April bow ties lol. I like your thinking outside the box. Great guitar
Very nice! I loved the sound your mic picked up of the draw knife in action.
Absolutely beautiful! I love your shop and hope to have one like that someday. Thank you for this video!
thank you!
I really Love your content.
These kinds of projects my favorite.
Thank you!
Just started watching you and am hooked! You explain things so well. Excellent work!!
Thank you!
Nice gift, beautiful board. I agree with some others. That draw knife was Cremona sharp.
Lucky sister.......what a bro. ❤ Sure did a excellent job on that one Matt.
Lol, your sister sounds like a kindred spirit! She thinks like me. Bigger is almost always better….. until it’s not. My friends have learned to expect to take home leftovers after a dinner or party because I seem to lack the the ability to judge the amounts of food etc I need to feed a given party of people. No one ever left my table hungry.
Love it when you turn on the camera for discussing what the plan is instead of just showing the work alone.
Gorgeous serving tray. Showing it being "used" just added to that effect. ;)
hahaha that might be my favorite part
Always enjoy your projects, nice work.
Thanks Jim!
I like it! And I appreciate how you provide the name all your tools.
thanks Kelly!
I don't know if envy is the right word but I envy you being able to work wood as you do, I so wish I was able to have or use a shop similar to yours, I like to create things out of wood, I always have liked woodworking. Great work by the way, I love the shows you make it brings me that much closer to what I would love to do.
Really beautiful work Matt!
Nice job. You made that draw knife work look easy.
Thanks Joe!! Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you. Beautiful piece.
Just a Merry Christmas to you and your family Matt!
Awesome! I like your presentation of the mallet, finish can, etc.! Lol!
hahaha thanks!
Just ordered my first ever batch of West epoxy. Thanks for all the tips over the years I am still a little nervous to work with it but you for sure helped Matt!!!
awesome!!
You'll get the feel for it after a while. Just keep the mix ratios right which is easy if you have the pumps. I've been through many gallons of West System through the years from boat building to resin augmented turnings - just don't let any thicker pours get hot while they cure. I wish you well.
@@boooshes thanks brother!
Really nice board! I just got a koa slab im using to make a violin back plate with.
Nice piece Mat. Thanks for the effort this year. Have a great Christmas.
Thanks Frank!
Great job Matt, thanks
Thought for sure you were going to put some butterflies in that project. Did my first epoxy coated project WHY? because your projects looked like fun THANKS. Glad to see you got the little skip loader your back will appreciate it especially when you’re older.
Very nice Matt. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Matt your sister is lucky, wish I had a board like that
Really nice Matt, awesome job! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred!
When I was in France a few years back I learned that when ordering a charcuterie board it is often just called une planche, which translates to a board. This seems like the perfect way to serve a platter of meat and cheese!
Hi Matthew nice work must admit not you best serving board I have seen you make but it came out really nice in the end you your family have a wonderful 🌲🌲😀👍👍👍
Looks fantastic!
Thanks Bruce!
Opa amigo conheci seu canal hoje e estou fascinado com seu trabalho parabéns.
Amazing as always
Wow wow wow that’s absolutely gorgeous 👍your a very sweet brother to make that for your sister great job 👍
Great vid and board. Love your content.
Thanks Meg!
Fantastic job. How beautiful . Your sis is one lucky gal.♥️🇺🇸🥰
Very nice Mat!
Nice job Matt, sure they will like it !!!.
thanks Brian!
Awesome! I’ve made a few of these now with info from your videos along with river table with a waterfall edge. I seem to get tiny bubbles from air trapped in the edges in the wood pores I guess. I’ve started sealing the edges first but a few still sneak through. I haven’t tried the vacuum pot yet. Do you think that could be the difference? I do use slow set epoxy.
it turned out pretty great
Thanks!
Hi Matt, I really enjoy your channel, it's easy to watch, informative & entertaining. Happy Year End & all the best in 2020 to you & yours. Watching in Willamina, Oregon, aka Timber Town USA, C.
Thank you so much!
Beautiful vertical edges, and natural look! Would like more horizontal natural edges, nice chunky handles, and small feet of sort. Thank you!
Looks Great!! Definitely learned a few things.
awesome to hear! thanks!
Beautiful Matt. 😊
Merry Christmas, Peace on Earth and Good will to All
It's a year later and still relevant
Looks amazing
I learned cabinet making using clear wood and can't love epoxy. If people like this look it might be something to explore.
I'm watching videos like this before attempting my first epoxy pour, and I enjoy, with envy, your log milling videos because I, too, love the beauty of wood with all the different figures which add character to otherwise straight grained wood.
I do have a question about this video. After your initial pour, you went back with some fast setting epoxy to do those small cracks and holes. Can you tell me what epoxy you used? Did you just mix Ecopoxy with more than normal hardener or a different epoxy all together?
A pleasure to watch.
great outcome for the eaten out wood Matt, well done again
Thanks!
That is beautiful!
Beautiful - i want one for my daughter!
Looks very nice. What type of finish did you use again?
Beautiful work! My question is , how can the epoxy hold those two pieces together without any other fasteners ? Happy new year.
Beautiful piece
As a suggestion, if you don’t have a vacuum pot. Find a back massager that vibrates. The type you put into a chair and lean back against. Put it under your board and let it vibrate the bubbles up. Let gravity work for you.
Great work on the serving tray Matt! I'm sure your sister will love it :) Thank you For sharing the video with us' and Merry Christmas to you and your family!🎄🎁💖👌👍😎JP
Thanks JP!
Your very welcome Matt! Have a wonderful week! 😎
