The Ayreon Universe is the best choice for a first full show. It has the broadest range of songs, from various albums and side projects. As for who writes the songs, usually Arjen writes the music and lyrics and chooses which singers and musicians to invite for the recording. Sometimes his girlfriend helps with the lyrics.

The guy who composes and produces all this is Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He has a YT channel of the same name. Go check there and be amazed of all the different projects and albums he created over the years. This is a very deep rabbit hole. With fantastic music to explore. I'd argue the Ayreon Universe show, where this and Everybody Dies are from, is the best one to start. The composing is almost exclusively done by Arjen, but for the live shows Joost (the keybord player) does a lot of the musical production and adaption to play Arjen's music live. And considering that these albums were not written with live performances in mind, they do a amazing job in adopting the music to the live setting. The concert for Into The Electric Castle And Other Tales live is cool too, because they play a whole album. But for a first overview I think the Universe show is better.

Well, Ayreon Universe is as mentioned in the comments a ' best of Ayreon' played live. So i guess that's the one to start with. After that you probably want more! Into the Electric Castle and other Tales live, which is even a bigger production than Universe would be next. 😉

Both singers are great, but imo the musicians don't get enough credit. I like the guitarist obviously enjoying his job as well as cello/ flute and violin players in this rock project.
I voted for The Warning but i will be there for Ayreon if you do it when im not at work. I've been meaning to dive deeper into his stuff since i heard "the day that the world breaks down" but hiss albums are so long and i find that a bit off putting.
