When Rick got upset with Carl for shooting that walker in the bar he told him that every bullet counts and that you don't know when you may need it. When Carl was in that pudding house alone he tried to shoot and kill that walker who had him and he needed one more bullet to get the walker in the head but guess what? He wasted it at the bar and didn't have it when it was really needed. Just like dear old dad had told him!!
Also (in my opinion) this episode has one of Carl’s greatest character moments. When he goes to shoot Rick, who he thinks is genuinely about to EAT HIM ALIVE, and he can’t. He’d rather be eaten alive than shoot his father, who is already dead anyways. I think it’s really important.
This is in my top 10 of all time fav episodes! Carls behavior seemed so harsh, and and disrespectful, until you realize, that he realizes, that hes still only a boy, who still needs his father. The "I win" seems to be almost as if hes playing a game..but this episode helps Carl grow..It's really a beautiful episode. Great reaction!
I think the "I win" and treating it like he's in a video game was pretty much the only way he can keep himself mentally stable, and stop himself from feeling like the worlds falling apart. 1 thing i took from Carl saying "I win" is that it doesn't matter if he struggles to kill a walker, as long as he completes the task he's surviving, even if it's messy, and dangerous as long as you live, you win
Fun Fact: The scene where Michonne takes out the small herd was improvised. She was only supposed to take out a few because they what they had for the budget of the episode, but the director never said cut so Danai (Michonne) just kept going and unchoreographly took them all out. It was so good that they kept it in... Also, Danai Gurira (Michonne) had admitted that she keeps swords in the trunk of her car and it freaks people out when she gets her car cleaned lol...
I could totally understand Carl's outrage against his father. So atleast Michonne is back together with Rick & Carl. Interesting to finally see a bit of Michonne's background, wasn't it ??
@Undeadsick83 Yes!! I was so happy to finally learn a little about who Michonne was and is....she has been so quiet and to finally see her as a gf and especially as a mom makes her even more of a badass to me!! I just love her
Lacey you are spot on about Michonne. When she was walking along with the walkers she was going back to being alone again. Seeing that walker that she felt resembled her seemed to make her realize that she would easily turn into one of them basically even while she was still alive. Lacey you said it perfectly....she would become one of the walking dead. Awesome reaction guys and as always I loved the discussion.
The emotion on Michonne’s face when she realizes that it’s Carl and Rick inside of the house... Like the way she was smiling with her whole face while also being on the verge of just bursting out crying... Yeah still makes me emotional every time I watch it
movieman175 it is. Rick was telling Carl that if he dies then Carl just needs to stay in the house for the rest of his life after he deals w/ walker Rick.
A lot of ppl hate on Carl for “blaming” his dad and being rude to him, but I honestly don’t think it was that at all. He’s a KID here. He’s lost everything he had, his BABY SISTER. I don’t think he’s specifically angry at Rick, he’s just angry period. Angry and devastated and overwhelmed, but the only person AROUND is his dad, so he just kind of projects it onto him.
Naa homie, Carl was angry at his dad personally. If you actually pay attention to story development, Carl's anger and frustration grows for his dad all the way up to this point, as did everyone's at one point or another. This episode focused on Carl's frustration with Rick because he's his son and the last character on the team to be frustrated with him openly. With it being his son, he also had the most personal issues with him that he's been holding in for years. Very typical in real life with a son and his father. Extremely great writing and very relatable to many fathers and sons in this dynamic. Excellent job by the script writers. Everything you mentioned that made Carl upset is valid but he did not and would not ever aim that anger towards anyone else. Literally wouldn't make any sense. Perfectly normal for a boy to challenge his father's authority as he comes into manhood. Especially if he wasn't raised with that fear of his father. The father is the first one the son tests his manhood on, and the first person a daughter learns to flirt with and understand her power of influence as a female. Human nature. Carl also kept seeing everyone count on Rick to keep them safe, so he failed in his mind, but carl matured past that thinking eventually. At the end of the day, Carl was pissed at Rick directly for a variety of built up reasons 💯
This is one of my most favorite episodes because we finally got to see Carl’s feelings, this kid has held back so much, he’s just been quietly strong and taking every hit and holding it together (sometimes even better than Rick), that it was finally time that he got to really lash out, and this was the time to do it. He’s a person, not a robot, he can’t hold in all of that feeling forever. And to be fair, he’s not even wrong to feel the way he did, Rick is their leader and it is his choices that ultimately led them to this road, everyone counted on him and Rick couldn’t protect them. Carl has every right to be angry given what just happened, his home is gone and his family is gone - Judith is gone. All of that is hard enough for an adult to deal with, much less a kid, no matter how tough that kid is. Carl was completely justified in feeling what he felt and having all that anger. You look up to your father to protect you and it’s hard when you feel like they failed you and let you and everyone else down. And in a way, Carl is trying to protect himself from further loss, when he says that he’d be fine if Rick died, it’s his way of convincing himself that’s true even though in reality I think he knows he wouldn’t be fine. But there is every possibility that Rick could die and Carl needed to get himself ready.
The look/feel Michonne gets from looking at the one walker that looked like her, she explained on the Talking Dead. She sees that she is not being seen and was feeling like she was one of them like she was when we first meet her. Also, the two new walker pets were the governors men. FYI: Chandler Riggs did eat that whole can of pudding. He said on The Talking Dead that he is done with pudding for a while. This is why it is important for when you get caught up to watch the Talking Dead after each episode.
Fun fact about that scene with Michonne killing the walkers -- the script was for her to originally kill only a few of them, maybe around 5 or so, but Danai Gurira, the incredible actress who plays Michonne, got so much into the emotion of that scene that she just kept on swinging her katana. Credit to the director of the episode, Greg Nicotero, who didn't yell "cut" and let Danai go off script. They ended up using all the clips/cuts of her killing walkers and changing the script, realizing it made more sense for her to kill all the walkers. And yep, you definitely are reading into that scene perfectly -- Michonne looked at the walker that resembled her physically and realized that if she shut herself down like she did before she met Andrea, she might as well be that walker beside her, a shell of her former self with no humanity. Such a beautiful scene to see her reject that and make a decision right there that she was going to continue to fight and not be, as you put it, part of the "Walking Dead."
I always thought when watching The walking dead that people had unrealistic expectations of Carl. He's a kid, he is managing quite well regarding the fact he lost everyone around him (as far as he knows) including his baby sister. He has had to kill people & survive walkers. Kids do stupid shit, some kids couldn't handle what Carl's going through. I really felt it when he was in that kids room & he looked at a life he would never have. Everyone wanted him to be a straight up badass but that just doesn't happen at least not over night. But Carl is a badass, he's just flawed like any other human being trying to survive an apocalypse as a kid. Plus I think him saying I win was him enjoying any small victory after losing everything.
Carl lashing out like that, although hard to watch and yes, disrespectful, would be perfectly natural for a young man his age, going through what he has gone through. He had to put the blame on someone and surprise surprise, it's his dad. But after letting all of those emotions, he realizes he needs his father. And on another subject.....PUDDING!!!!!!
There were so many ‘Carl and a can of pudding’ memes that came out after this episode first aired 😅 AMC even has a giant pudding can purse for sale in their store 😁
"I'll be fine when you died", I think Carl trying to convinced himself that he will be fine if he lost his father. Because he is afraid that he will lose him. I don't know.. At least, from my experience, my dad always teach me what to do if both of my parents died. My dad occasionally said that I should survive without them.. 😥
True, it also reminds me of when Maggie was talking to Herschel after he lost his leg, telling him that it would be ok if he died, that she and Beth would take care of each other and they didn’t need him to fight anymore. Obviously she said it kindly and sentimentally, a Carl said it afraid and pissed off, but it feels like the intent might be similar, to me anyway
This is actually one of my favorite episode endings. Also loved getting some of Michone's story and character development. When she breaks down after seeing them through the window it is just gut-punching but in a good way.
I hate Carl, such an annoying brat here. Listen to your father kid. We get it, u can shoot a gun, doesn't mean u should disobey ur dad. Kid could have gotten killed several times
What the hell is wrong with you??? Everyone's here to see a reaction to SEASON 4 EPISODE 9 - why the fvck are you dropping such a huge god damn spoiler??? Most of the ppl here haven't seen that yet - I had no god damn clue Rick dies and you're just going to say that with no warnings about spoilers???? You're a real piece of sh!t dude
Lol I am so sorry dude. I thought you were spoiling something from like way later in the show cuz I've seen up to season 6, but I'm rewatching it from the start and intend on finishing the show and I forgot about the scene in season 4 episode 9 where Carl thinks Rick is dead. I am sorry for flipping sh!t.
Rick is still in pain and can barely stand because of his fight with The Governor and when he was in the bathroom taking his shirt off he was examining the bruises on his torso and rib and chest area hence why he's wheezing and that scene when those 3 walkers are on top of Carl is a callback to Season 2 Episode 10 when Rick had 3 walkers on him
The way Carl killed those three walkers was the same way rick killed three walkers that fell on him during his fight with Shane in season 2 ,difference is rick shoots through a walker head to kill a walker
Also Michonne's dream was explaining how she had a boyfriend and a son she even said back in season 3 episode 12 that she used to talk to her dead boyfriend sometimes and those two walkers she had in chains were her boyfriend and friend
ONE OF MY FAVORITE CARL EPISODES!!! He finally started expressing how he was feeling instead of being angsty & giving Rick looks after taking his gun away.
Lacey, you were right on the money with Michonne. When she saw the walker that resembled her, she saw the pre-Andrea version of herself and lost it. She created two more "pets" with the plan of just moving on, but then remembered that she is still part of a group that may still be alive and now she needs to find them.
Carl didnt really mean any of it. He's been through a lot throughout the show and given what just happened he needs to let it all out. Atleast he admits he was wrong.
The "I win!" thing that Carl is doing is just like a kid playing a video game--which if his world hadn't collapsed into the Walking Dead he'd be playing with his friends in competitions saying, "I win!" Competition against his Dad, against the walkers that attacked him and then against the shoe stealing walker--he won each time. It's one of the things that really touches me about this episode. Carl's still a kid in a lot of ways and still needs that kind of interaction and he'll never have it.
This whole situation has always annoyed me. After what happened at the farm, you’d think they’d learn their lesson and have a contingency plan for if something like this happens. A place stocked where everyone would meet up if something happened to the prison. Ugh! It’s annoying. Great reaction as always!!!
Oh haha I just said the same exact thing. That always bugged me too. They really took big chances by not having a meetup spot picked out. A situation like this there’s good chance to never find your people after getting separated.
Thank you both for having this episode up. The amount of 4/9's that get copyrighted is insane. This is one of my favorite episodes. We get a much needed Michonne back story. But the real standout star is Chandler Riggs, Carl. For the first two seasons he was mostly baggage. Someone who Lori would constantly pawn off. Season 3 we get some shocking and disturbing moments. He makes sure his mom doesn't turn, he also guns down a surrendering person in cold blood. As well as telling his father he should step down as a leader. Then we get "Clear" where his main focus is getting the family photo for Judith in his hometown (awww). That's all we have to work with. He hasn't been fleshed out. Whether it was due to the writing choices or Chandler's own undeveloped acting style, he was always a background character. Now we are in season 4. He's on a tight leash by Rick, for good reason. We got some farming scenes with dad, a snitching scene on Carol, and the wonderful gunning down scene 50 walkers with semi autos with dad. Wholesome. Now it's After, and all that shit that Carl has been keeping inside comes pouring out in a flood. Puberty sucks. You actually have some real information, yet you think you know it all because you know something (which of course is, faulty logic). We all go through it. It's annoying and touching at the same time. Cause we've been there. We all have been there in one form or another, challenging our parents, pushing the boundaries. Zombie apocalypse be damned! This is the episode where I became a Carl fan. Not from his quipping I-want-to-punch-the-crap-out-of-you lines, but from the growth at the end. He was able to put down his mom before she turned, but couldn't do it for his dad. Yes, he was firmly convinced his dad turned. He had a wonderful moment of surrender. The perfect counter balance to his "asshole attitude" throughout the rest of the episode. Carl is a better character for this episode. I am very thankful I was able to watch your reactions to it. *My apologies to the mods who had to wade through this whole comment. I know I tend to be verbose. But I wanted to highlight why I love this episode so much. You mods do a great job, and I thank you for it. Great reaction as always S&L, I can't wait to see where the story takes us all next. Until next time, keep on keeping on.
Heres my take on Philip. After the season3 prison battle, he really gave up. You saw that he nearly let a walker get him. Then Martinez and whats-his-name left his ass, he torched Woodbury, and grew a beard. Therefore "the Guvna" was gone and he became "Brian". But then he ran into Martinez again. "Brian" saw Martinez in a position of leadership (power & respect) similar to what he once had and became jealous/angry. Thats what resurrected his old "Guvna persona" So he killed Martinez, took over, and set his sights on the prison once more. Had he never encounterd Martinez after the abandonment, "Brian" might've never become "Guvna" again.
You nailed it! Yes, Michonne was willing to go back to JUST surviving after losing everyone, especially Hershel but she saw the walker that resembled her in some ways just walking to nothing just DEAD! She no longer wanted that life, she had finally began to live again at the prison and trust people again! Loved that episode now and even then when I first viewed it!
I’ve been rewatching this with my husband, who is watching this for the first time. We finally caught up to you guys. Man, seeing Hershel’s reanimated head was just a kick in the teeth after how hard last episode was. Re: Rick’s face and injuries - You gotta remember that he and Phillip were in an outright slugfest during the prison attack. Rick got messed up pretty good. And yeah, can you imagine what the makeup and prosthetics budget is for this show? Why wear clothes? Of all the things, would you want your junk bitten off by a walker? The dream/flashback with Michonne - I don’t know if the katana fitting in the knife block was just part of the dream sequence, but I was like, “How the fuck did that fit? Did Hermione Granger design that knife block?” This was a really good highlight episode for Carl. Chandler Riggs did a really good job this episode. We see Carl let loose on every bit of anger and self-reproach that had built up probably since Dale’s death that he felt responsible for. And while he’s been very battle-hardened and experienced in taking out walkers...he is still a kid after all. It definitely stuck out to me that he put Lori down when her death was imminent, but he couldn’t make himself do the same to Rick when he thought that Rick had died and turned.
I think that anger had been building up since Sophia went missing because he said he even felt responsible for that...sometimes i do not like Carl but man that kid has gone through so much up until this point
I agree with y’all; Philip was NEVER gonna change! A narcissist is a dangerous person. He was temporarily defeated but once he met this family, his eye went back to the prison and to destroy them. Goodbye Governor (most of us DON’T miss u) 😆💚
I really enjoy watching you watching this, I look forward to it daily. To me it's like watching it again through someone else s eyes for the first time.
I understand the perspective you took on the governor and I appreciate the viewpoint you took but I definitely think you missed out what the intention of the "Brian" Episodes were. The governor embodied a Shane type character, as Andrea said to Shane once; "Right calls, but the wrong presentation". Like Shane, the governor was motivated to protect and lead people he deemed worthy to protect (Woodbury), and consistently made calls that were only to the benefit his people, but he presented himself as a person that was trying to look after everyone, like Rick. This is one of the reasons why he couldn't believe Rick's offer and Killed Hershel, because he didn't think it was possible to risk the ones close to you for the greater good. The Governor was a psychopath, but the idea was that he was driven to it due to the death of his daughter which he blamed on himself for not being ruthless enough. When he said to Andrea, he used the heads as a reminder of the horrors out there, he was partly telling the truth, this is why when he killed the leader of his new group, he had to go back and look at him in the lake before making the decision he was going to have to take the prison so his new family could be safe. He did a lot of bad things, and I'm not going to try to argue he was good, but it' was his philosophy of "I must protect those I love, even if it means doing bad things" which the show is being critical of. This is why he didn't intend to kill the people in the prison, he was trying to take what's theirs for his own advantage. The walking dead is rarely about good and evil people, it's about how in a world gone mad, the battles people go through and the sacrifices they make in order to live or keep their humanity.
I love this stretch of post-prison episodes so much. This one is great with Carl's frustration with his father, Rick's suffering, and the Michonne backstory. I love the ending too when Michonne sees Rick and Carl through the window and Rick tells Carl the door's for him.
I get what you mean about Philip not using his real name, but I think that was also to escape his past and move on (and like you said, become a new him). I do agree that he tried to change and ultimately couldn't. For me it's more like... the fact that he /wanted/ to be human again and all that is kind of important to me? Like... if he was truly just pure evil I don't think he would even care how inhumane he was. That attempt - that effort - means there's something human left about him. Some people don't care at all about being a good person and do those good things with bad intentions /planned/, but Philip's bad intention weren't originally there with that family imo. I think he knew what he was like but didn't /want/ to be that way, so while I don't forgive some of the things he did I do keep in mind how Milton knew him before the world changed and seemed to think well of him. He seemed to find it difficult to accept that Philip was becoming this awful person, so that leads me to believe he changed and wasn't always like this. I get your points though and I completely respect them! Your points are valid and completely reasonable. It's always okay to agree to disagree and I appreciate your explanations about Philip. - hi the rest is about carl and i love my son. see below. "It's your dad, dude." That's why though. Kids react that way to their parents. I was /definitely/ a lot like that when I was Carl's age. Granted, Carl has more excuse because he's an apocalypse and separated from everyone he knew except his dad with nowhere to go, but at that age kids pretty normally behave that way. I also felt a lot of how Carl feels in this episode and this was actually the first episode I really started to connect with him. I was starting to feel him a bit more this season, but this episode definitely put me in a position of understanding him more. I love watching how resourceful Carl is in this episode. Even though he had an attitude when talking to Rick, he showed capability but he was too stressed out and made dumb decisions in the meantime. I think in a normal state of mind he could have used those skills better and worked things out while Rick recovered. It was good that he got the walkers away from the house too because that could have led to buildup if other walkers passed by and were drawn by the noise, but he got cocky about it. He definitely had potential showing this episode but he wasn't in the right frame of mind to utilize his skills very well. "Just let it all out." That's something I've always focused on. Carl waited until Rick was unconscious to get out all those mean, hurtful things. He was hurt too because of everything that just happened and he had no outlet, but he didn't say any of it right to Rick when Rick would react to it. Most if not all kids at one point in their life get those nasty feelings that they want to just let out imo - it's just that some people don't speak those thoughts. The feelings are there but they don't always end up spoken. Carl took back everything he said within the same episode, too, so that furthers my feelings that he didn't really /mean/ any of it, but at the time he was so frustrated he just needed to get the awful feelings out and cry a bit to carry on. I mean, imagine being his age and going through all this? It doesn't matter if it's truly Rick's fault for any of this or not. Carl doesn't know how to manage his feelings in this episode and there's nobody there to help him with it. In S3 Daryl was there to look out for Carl when Lori died and Rick kept wandering off, and when Daryl wasn't there Hershel was. Now Hershel is dead and Daryl is separated from them (and notably those are some of the specific names he brings up when he's fuming), he believes his baby sister to be dead and Lori is long gone. In our minds as adults we might feel like what he's saying is harsh and all, but like, if I put myself into his situation, I don't think I would have reacted much better at that age. That whole "I'd be fine if you died" was literally just anger and something I really don't think he'd ever say right to Rick's face because he couldn't, because he didn't mean it. I know you say "that's your dad", but I've also actually had similar tensions with my dad at that age and a lot of anger that I didn't know what to do with. Carl is trying to manage that anger without directly taking it up with Rick because once you say something it's just... there, out in the open. If he said those things he didn't mean /to/ Rick then he couldn't take them back. Sometimes you just have to let the nasty feelings out some other way and come back to the person with a clearer mind, and that's something Carl did in this episode. I'm happy you guys understood Carl at the end too! It's definitely a breath of fresh air when it comes to reactions. "What's this I win stuff?" A teenager reaching their peak teenage moments in an apocalypse instead of at school. 😂 Lmao I can't hear that "hey asshole! Hey shitface!" the same anymore because I made it my notification sound on my old phone. 😂
Y'all got to understand Carl told Rick at the end of season 3 now go kill the governor before he kill somebody else I love he blame Rick for his mother, shane and Judith death he's angry for the death of his sister
the walker reminded her of herself. and what she felt like when walking with the walkers. she didn't want to go back to her old ways of following a herd wherever it took her. so she ended it for a chance to be human. surviving isn't just about being alive. wow what a powerful scene that was. she loves this group so much. imediately top 3 for me at this time
Great reaction! Chandler Riggs said he ate so much chocolate pudding that till this day, he gets sick at the sight of it! I'm glad that Michonne found Rick and Carl as she can help keep Rick safe as he heals.
The following October after that episode aired, I met Scott Wilson at Crypticon KC and I was so excited and nervous I didn't know what to say...so my dumbass ended up saying, "glad to see you with your head!"😂😂😂 but his hug was everything! Love Scott Wilson aka Hershel..one of my favorites and always will be. RIP both Hershel and Scott Wilson. Such an amazing person and character!
Philip was never good at the manipulation crap. His lies and avoidance was crazy lol People bought into his shit because they needed him, they needed to believe and have a "safe space" people like Michonne who is fully capable of taking care of herself seen right through that crap, she had no use for him. Strong minded people would never follow him which is why he needed to take Rick and his group out.
I still think Philip just wanted to help them for the first few times, he was about to leave them in the apartment after he helped the family but Lilly told him to stay why would he left if he is planning something? Then when He killed Martinez and started to became the Governor again he left the camp with his new family at night because he realized if they stay he's gonna be his old self but the road was blocked so they had no choice but go back to the camp so i still think he really tried to became what he was before the apocalypse but after he went back to the camp he was "to far gone".
I always feel that Carl is upset with Rick for even trying to reason with the Governor. He's tough and knows alot for a kid his age, but he doesn't understand the whole picture. But Judith also being gone is a big part of it.
I think once the Governor lost Penny, he totally lost his mind. There's a theme running through this show that explores "coming back" from how this new world changes you, For some people, they are able to find a way to live in the world even though it changes them forever. For other people, it changes them in such a way that they seem to have a mental break. It's a very interesting discussion to have...like nature vs nurture I think it also depends on the kind of person they were before the apocalypse happened. I think for the Governor, once he lost Penny, he could no longer cope and the way he coped was to no longer be Phillip, but he became the Governor. Great discussion guys!
Feeling under the weather and this brightened my day. The whole season of 4 is a favorite, and the part B is wonderful for seeing the dynamic of everyone-you’ll love the upcoming episodes.
22:22 I love the part where Rick almost tries to tell Carl that it's going to be alright, but then just stops. Because he probably doesn't even believe it at that point.
You all catch a lot of things that I didn’t catch onto which is why I love watching you all will say something or the meaning you think and I’m like “oh wow I didn’t think about that” I love it
That one walker looking like Freddy Kreuger isn't too far off (even though it wasn't meant to). Greg Nicotero (the EP, director, and make-up genius of the show) likes to homage other horror icons so you'll see certain walkers or locations that are recreations from other horror films/shows.
Comic Comparisons : The arc where Rick talks to Lori over the phone actually happens at this point in the comics after the prison battle because Lori’s death happens later in the comics than in the show Rick actually carries the phone with him.
Honestly I love these episodes that focus in on certain characters really, get in to their headspace and strengthen relationships between the characters.
One more thing I think the reason Carl said "I'd be fine if you died" is because he's just angry and needs to release it somehow and when Michonne does look at that walker with the dreads it does resembles her in a way and she snaps out of it cause she decided right then and there she wants to live and be among the dead
Fun fact the actor for carl (chandler riggs) Hates pudding and he still ate it for that seen also Don't watch carl poppa until the season finale there is one scene from the finale.
Watching this episode reminded me of the discussion we had about Carol training kids to knife fight. I think watching Carl who is an older kid, nearly die twice while trying to prove himself pretty much made my point. Kids aren't big, strong, coordinated enough and their judgement and maturity aren't developed enough yet to effectively fight walkers, much less humans. Carl came to realize this. He realized he still needed his dad. Training kids to fight is good as long as it's done safely, but you still need to protect them. Their best defence is still staying close to adults, and running away from danger.
Michonne lives alone, when she did not found Andrea when she found Andrea. Michonne trust to other people become stronger because of Andrea, when Andrea died, Andrea said "you found the" which is Andrea's Family ( Andrea's Group) Michonne promise that she will revenge for Andrea. and that's why Michonne realize that she will never leave Andrea's Family (Andrea's group ) which is Andrea's last Memory :((( Who's with me or agree :((
Also, being nice to people you care about. Doesn't make you any less of a murderer. After literally murdering dozens of people within less then a minute. As Lacey said, once a Psycho, always a Psycho. If that was in you before, its still in you. Doesn't matter if he has his "reasons".
@Jordan I want them to see all the videos as well. But the season video only has a portion of the song. The other video, of just the song, is the "whole" song.lol i wonder if the wrote the whole song at once. Or wrote the rest when they saw how popular it was!
Such a smart and moving episode - great catch Lacey on the Joe Jr note parallel about not killing his dad. I think my favorite part is the last line - the only WD episode to end on a joke - but it works perfectly!
Good morning duo family how is everyone doing. Can't wait to watch this amazing video...here chilln with my grandma and watching yall..everyone stay safe and blessed much love from San Antonio
Group is separated. Michonne's backstory at last. I can understand Carl's anger. He's growing up and everything keeps changing and he just went through something horrible, something a child should not go through
Fun fact, the Hershel head is in the Smithsonian. Chandler's acting in this one was great, and Rick realizing he's a man, and probably has been for a while considering where he started.
I found you two the day after you uploaded your reaction to s1ep1 & ever since, I’ve been a sub & loving the reactions. Love that steve is always reppin chicago & lacey is a ginger so shes instantly cool.
Carl was on my last nerve in this episode. Glad he came around at the end. Michonne killing all of those walkers is one of my favorite scenes. She's just so badass! So glad that they found each other by the end of the episode. I've been to Senoia, Ga where most of the show is filmed and walked through "Woodbury" and have pictures of the pudding house and the house where Rick and Carl stayed.
I never understood them having no rendezvous points in case the prison was compromised and they had to flee. They clearly had some kind of evacuation plan - the bus for the weak & elderly, everyone had an assigned job to do, so it’s weird they didn’t have a few locations dotted around, stocked with food, water & weapons, where everyone was drilled to head for. 🤷♂️
I needed this today it always makes me feel better I've been kinda depressed lately with a break up and going to the DMV today and getting denied till the docter send in the paperwork and I've been waiting 16 years to drive and I thought I finally could 😢😢but I don't mean for my busness to be out there in gonna make it I guess just one step at a time but I just needed somwhere to vent but thanks anyway
The problem with Phillip and whether he "changed" or not, is our first shot of him in this season. Which was outside the prison glaring at the people in there. If the showrunner omitted that scene with it's accompanying tension-filled music, the whole redemption arc might have been played out more mysteriously. But we didn't get that. This is probably the first of several serious mistakes that directors and the showrunners made.
I think the show runners were trying to go for a partial redemption story, but ultimately his past caught up to him, I don't necessarily believe it, the same thing with the Merle situation. The main reason for the reason I think they were trying to do it is because of certain parts in those 2 episodes. Mainly him running away from the camp with the girls, which he wouldn't have done if he wanted to be the leader and him helping them with getting the back gammon set, which he didn't need to do at all. I just didn't think the writing was good enough to do it correctly, as I watched this show with my dad and he had the same reaction as Lacy to Philip. On a separate note I think their is a big distinction between evil and insane. An insane person may react to something irrationally because their mentally unstable which is what happened to Phillip when he killed all the Wood Berry people for not listening to him. It also happened to Rick when he kept seeing Loris ghost However Phillip is also evil because of what he did to the Army camp, as well as the beating of Andria and Milton, as well as various other things he did.
@Feanor The thing is were those two episodes entirely necessary, basically all we got was a rehash of Season 3. In Season 3 they start you off the same way and ultimately end up with him going nuts, and then in season 4 they did the same thing. I just think the execution of what they were going for didn't work out for me or others, as opposed to Shane were you could see he is a complicated guy to understand.
Don't know if it was pointed out but this time I saw the similarly of when Philip says liar it goes back to that body him and Marteenez saw in the woods with the sign on it that said liar on it with e the head cut off.
Tbf Carl despite saying some pretty horrible things to his dad deals with his issues in a much healthier way then most of the adults in the group, Rick & Tyrese are prime examples of people who can't deal with stuff going south. Also I think that Carl is talking about himself, that he couldn't protect Herschel, Lori, Judith and everyone else, he could have killed the governor but he didn't because Daryl told him to let Rick handle it, I think he feels that he should have just stepped up and done what needed to be done before Herschel was killed
You know them teens, they always think we’re wrong, until they see we do know somethings! I thought Michonne went with the dead, because everyone left her, but not sure. I was so happy she found Rick & Carl❣️👋. I’m with you on the Governor, he was a psycho! A manipulator! And I’m glad he gone! I remember the first time I saw TWD, I wondered, how can a zombie apocalypse show last? WOW! I can’t believe it did, I enjoy the actors so much❣️
Also the house they are in u can see it in senoia the town they do alot of filming in and home of woodbury.. the house is right around the corner from WoodBury..
I believe the governor just wanted to be alone then he ran into a family that needed a hero and he became that for them then he joined a group and he wasn't the leader the one people look to for answers and that's what triggered him he needs to be the Alpha male leader of the pack same with Rick but the only difference is Rick has no problem stepping down or taken time off as leader but the governor needs that power
Pudding house. :D
@Feanor I never even considered that but you are so right!!! Lucky for Rick lol
@@LawNerd24 😉
nice
but saving bullets doesn't guarantee you'll have enough when you need them though
Wow whatt damn Danai is awesome then that scene was so sick
I love her she's so smart tho xd
The emotion on Michonne’s face when she realizes that it’s Carl and Rick inside of the house... Like the way she was smiling with her whole face while also being on the verge of just bursting out crying... Yeah still makes me emotional every time I watch it
Rick didn't say "i'm alive." He said "Stay inside."
I believe it was actually "don't go outside" the subtitles on the DVD said that if I remember right.
movieman175 it is. Rick was telling Carl that if he dies then Carl just needs to stay in the house for the rest of his life after he deals w/ walker Rick.
i thought he said stay inside.
💯
I’ve always loved how Michonne’s lonnng sword fit perfectly into the butcher block of knives 🤣
Michonne seeing Rick and Carl is one of my favorite scenes!
That smile of Rick's when he realizes it's Michonne knocking on the door... ❤️ I think it started way earlier than we thought
Good ol' backwards-walking-Carl. I remember yelling at him so much this episode the first time I watched it lol
This is one of my favorite episodes, because Carl is a favorite of mine.
I’m so mad that he died😭
I hate Carl, such an annoying brat here. Listen to your father kid. We get it, u can shoot a gun, doesn't mean u should disobey ur dad. Kid could have gotten killed several times
@@AnonTriple he’s been through so so much that you can’t imagine, he’s acting out, he didn’t have his teenage years and he’s venting
@@AnonTripleno one wants to here it people like him
Just realized something. Carl killed Lori but couldn't kill Rick
It’s different
He still had his sister and dad when he killed his mom. But believed they were all gone by this point.
Rick is still in pain and can barely stand because of his fight with The Governor and when he was in the bathroom taking his shirt off he was examining the bruises on his torso and rib and chest area hence why he's wheezing and that scene when those 3 walkers are on top of Carl is a callback to Season 2 Episode 10 when Rick had 3 walkers on him
plus the mirror is a callback scene to episode 1 of season 1, I think almost every season they have Andy do it after every big change
David Morrissey's portrayal of the gov. was amazing. One if the best villains of all time.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE CARL EPISODES!!! He finally started expressing how he was feeling instead of being angsty & giving Rick looks after taking his gun away.
Lacey's predictions so far
Michonne:
Had a kid before √
It still hurts knowing how she lost him, and I think she says how this season(?)
@@franklythemooch7413 i think so!
The Carl Poppa video, i would suggest watching after S4 cause there are a little small clips that you have not seen yet.
@Jordan i hope afterwards cause Part 2, defiantly has MAJOR spoilers. People are recommending it and i am like noooooooo
Until next time, keep on keeping on.
thewheel73 As a mod, I say, no worries. You made great points for Carl’s disrespect for his dad & the situation. No spoilers so... I’m good 😉
Heres my take on Philip.
Glad to see you two recovered from the season finale LOL! That part when Michonne finds her favorite Grimes’ again is so emotional. Love it.
In regard to accounting for the groups ... Maggie Sasha and Bob were together. Tyrese was shouting to the kids.
Dead Fan you forgot Daryl and Beth 👍
Did Hermione Granger design that knife block?”
This was a really good highlight episode for Carl.
Rest in peace Scott Wilson. Loved seeing him play Herschel Green.. fantastic actor and he’s truly missed.
It's always okay to agree to disagree and I appreciate your explanations about Philip.

hi the rest is about carl and i love my son.
Lmao I can't hear that "hey asshole!
His lies and avoidance was crazy lol
People bought into his shit because they needed him, they needed to believe and have a "safe space" people like Michonne who is fully capable of taking care of herself seen right through that crap, she had no use for him.
Strong minded people would never follow him which is why he needed to take Rick and his group out.
Loved this episode so much!! Great reaction guys!
Danai was only supposed to kill 8 Walkers in that scene but the director never said "cut" so she just kept swinging and it was awesome.
I love how as soon as Carl locks the door with the Walker in the room it just cuts to him on the roof eating pudding
One more thing I think the reason Carl said "I'd be fine if you died" is because he's just angry and needs to release it somehow and when Michonne does look at that walker with the dreads it does resembles her in a way and she snaps out of it cause she decided right then and there she wants to live and be among the dead
at comic com Chandler said he loved chocolate pudding, and after that scene he says he hates it
@@locomojoboy2 the actor who plays Carl
Starting puberty sucks. Starting puberty during the zombie apocalypse....
Fun fact the actor for carl (chandler riggs) Hates pudding and he still ate it for that seen also Don't watch carl poppa until the season finale there is one scene from the finale.
Yeah they 100% should
Watching this episode reminded me of the discussion we had about Carol training kids to knife fight.
Michonne trust to other people become stronger because of Andrea, when Andrea died, Andrea said "you found the" which is Andrea's Family ( Andrea's Group) Michonne promise that she will revenge for Andrea. and that's why Michonne realize that she will never leave Andrea's Family (Andrea's group ) which is Andrea's last Memory :(((
Who's with me or agree :((
Im still mourning about Andrea and Hershel and also Merle who killed by the governor. :(((( and poor Michonne.
Also, being nice to people you care about.
Doesn't make you any less of a murderer.
After literally murdering dozens of people within less then a minute.
As Lacey said, once a Psycho, always a Psycho. If that was in you before, its still in you.
Doesn't matter if he has his "reasons".
Yes ! 'After' this episode you can watch our fan favourite music video of Carl Poppa in full lyric of course~~
Love that song
@Jordan they could watch just Carl Poppa video. There is a version with just the song.
My first thought too! I hope they watch it a d review asap!
@Jordan I want them to see all the videos as well. But the season video only has a portion of the song. The other video, of just the song, is the "whole" song.lol i wonder if the wrote the whole song at once. Or wrote the rest when they saw how popular it was!
No, they have to wait until season 4 is over. Carl Papa has future stuff in it. DUO, DON'T WATCH IT YET!
He's growing up and everything keeps changing and he just went through something horrible, something a child should not go through
The governor went back to psycho when he found Martinez
Fun fact, the Hershel head is in the Smithsonian. Chandler's acting in this one was great, and Rick realizing he's a man, and probably has been for a while considering where he started.
I found you two the day after you uploaded your reaction to s1ep1 & ever since, I’ve been a sub & loving the reactions. Love that steve is always reppin chicago & lacey is a ginger so shes instantly cool.
GundyPower If ur a fan of GoT, u should go back and watch those from S1E1... Lacey had seen they S7 and Steve watches from beginning ☺️👍🏼
TinkerStinker I actually did do this. Loved those reactions too.
The moment Carl realizes that he still needs his dad is so beautiful in it's way, he's just a kid at the end of the day 😄
I never understood them having no rendezvous points in case the prison was compromised and they had to flee. They clearly had some kind of evacuation plan - the bus for the weak & elderly, everyone had an assigned job to do, so it’s weird they didn’t have a few locations dotted around, stocked with food, water & weapons, where everyone was drilled to head for. 🤷♂️
I wonder if Herschel wasn't trying to flee but keep his daughters from having to see him in the state he was in
yay right on time
hi, i'm here to say i told you so.
@@gingerlemon865 how are u gonna call me the insecure and embarrassing one while reply to my totally unrelated comment on a different video lmao
If Rick was awake when Carl yelled at him he would have woped his ass
Carl Makes The Shane Vibes Here.
The episode that inspired Carl Papa
This is the episode where the show really starts to pick up the pace for the foreseeable future. Some great moments are coming.
Some amazing character episodes ahead. Love this era of TWD!
Simoun Marsada Yes; we all agree. Let’s leave it at that 🤫
“It’s for you” ❤️
Don't know if it was pointed out but this time I saw the similarly of when Philip says liar it goes back to that body him and Marteenez saw in the woods with the sign on it that said liar on it with e the head cut off.
Hope an AMAZING Birthday happens to you Steve. Happy Birthday!
Lacey is incredibly insightful. Thanks for sharing!
Carl and his 5 gallon bucket of chocolate pudding
I think when he ran into Martinez again that’s when the governor came back but I’m also sure the prison was always in the back of his head
