Rob, this is a great series. Thanks so much for putting this together. As a younger person in the trades, I find it very helpful listening to these conversations to really learn what us younger guys should be looking for in a good employer. I can totally relate to you and greg in many ways, as I was a good student but told you have to go to college to really be successful. I tried that for a few years but was very unhappy and finally decided to drop out to pursue what I had known I wanted to do for years which was construction.
Just out of curiosity, how does your company advertise for jobs? I find that in my area every contractor says they want to hire but when guys like me go to look for the jobs there are very few contractors advertising on the online job sites.

I prefer to take Young people that don’t have a degree and been to College, as a person who spent 3 years getting there degree commonly think they are more than this. I prefer to have someone who wants to learn and put in the efford to get the skill. I find them without a degree more engaged to the job and wanting to learn everything there is about it. I’ve had pencil pushers on a job site and don’t feel they are giving there all.
Now I’m not saying everyone with a degree is like that, but many I have come accross where.

Cold call contractors and ask. Some are happy to take younger kids on. Bare in mind you'll be doing crappy jobs to start and may not even swing a hammer for a while
