You nailed it. Maiko’s are geishas in training. This is a very fun, more hectic version the song but doesn’t have the same ebbs and flows of the original since it’s more hectic. It makes each version have a vibe and mood.

An April Fool's joke that led to a 7 track EP, with 6 existing songs getting the Maiko treatment and 1 original Maiko Song Gion Cho. Gion Cho is many people's favourite off the EP, I can't say that as two of my very favourite BM songs got the Maiko treatment, Anemone became Ansan and Awkward become Akasimahen both done brilliantly.

The writing in Kan-ji at the start translates to World Domination. The first album done for Band-Maid's current label Pony Canyon was Band-Maiko. Maiko being apprentice to Giesha which are called Gieko in Kyoto. Sai-chan sings in the distinctive Kyoto dialect. All Band-Maiko songs are reinterpretations of previous Band-Maid songs with one exception. Gion-cho was written by and produced by Band-Maiko. All of the others are written by Band-Maid and arranged by Band-Maiko. You will never see this performed in costume live because it takes four hours to dress and the Maiko kimono is far too restrictive to play freely in. See you at Ace of Spades.

A Maiko is an apprentice Geisha. Also, if you really pay attention, they sang the song in the Kyoto dialect which changed up the pronunciation and way the words were said.

It is a Tsugaru Shamisen, 3-strings, played with a bachi. BTW, MISA, as far as I know, doesn't play shamisen. And, of course, the meme of Akane and food. BTW, MISA is around 5'8"...but she is wearing 2" Geta and Tabi...so, do the math. The lady is very tall for a Japanese woman. Love the jazz chords by Kanami during the bridge. The flat zither is a Koto...in Wagakki Band, the Koto player is Yuko's husband.

They changed their name to BAND-MAIKO as an April Fools back in 2018, they even changed their website back then telling everybody they'd change their name to BAND-MAIKO.
Well, they did again a year after with "Gion-cho"....and I don't know if it's apart of the April First schemes, but they (Miku Kobato) released Cluppo on April 1:st 2021 with Cluppo "Love & Peace"

There seems to be some confusion here. This is not Band-Maid. You can tell because they're never seen together. Saiki, Miku, Kanami, Akane, and MISA are not part of this band. Band-Maiko are:
    Hatoko (鳩子) - Vocals, Guitar
    Fujiki (富士姫) - Main Vocal
    KANOEMI - Guitar
    Akatsuki (紅月) - Drums
    Umemisa (梅美沙) - Bass
They are the only band in the world that rivals the greatness of Band-Maid.

A Maiko is a trainee Geisha. The hairstyles and hair adornments are those that a Maiko would have, not a Geisha. The traditional costumes they used were borrowed as they cost many tens of thousands of dollars. For this April Fools joke, which ended in a 6 song EP release by the fictional Band-Maiko, all the band members took traditional twists on their names for this April Fools joke which ended in a 6 song EP - Miku → Hatoko (鳩子), Saiki → Fujiki (富士姫), Kanami → Kanoemi (叶笑), Akane → Akatsuki (紅月), MISA → Umemisa (梅美沙). There are lots of 'in' jokes in this MV, like at 5:00, where all the band members pause to pose before eating - but Akane, famed for her appetite for ramen - tucks into hers; MISA, always barefoot on stage, is wearing traditional shoes; stuff like that.

"Kansai-ben" is an umbrella term for the various dialects in the Kansai region, the Kyoto dialect being one of them. The dialect of Nagoya, located in the Chubu Region, is somewhat different, though a western rather than eastern dialect, in the broadest sense.
There are no "geisha" in Kyoto-they are invariably referred to as "geiko". There are substantial differences between the geisha culture of Tokyo and the geiko culture of Kyoto (I've experienced both as a customer) in customs and terminology.
The language used by geiko/maiko in Kyoto has three sources: modern Kyoto dialect; an older Kyoto dialect whose terms and phrases are still used in the service industry in Kyoto, particularly establishments that deal in traditional culture; and some usages of the ladies of the imperial court when it was located in Kyoto, which the geiko adopted for their customers, some of whom were courtiers and other officials of the court.

Hi, I always enjoy your work.
Let me explain a little about BAND-MAIKO today.
(I try to comment on Band-Maiko's reactions with this explanation, so I know some of you who read this comment section have already read it somewhere else, but I'll post it here as well.)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In all the songs of BAND-MAIKO, Saiki uses the word called "京ことば Kyo-kotoba(Kyoto dialect)".
The Kyo-kotoba has many special phrases that are different from the so-called "Kansai-ben(Kansai region dialect. Kyoto is included in the Kansai region)", and even if you are from Kyoto, it is not a word that ordinary people other than maiko and geisha use on a daily basis.
Many maiko are not from Kyoto, but when working as a maiko in Kyoto, it is not desirable to use the dialect of the region in which they were born and raised.
Therefore, the training content of Maiko includes the acquisition of this Kyo-kotoba.
The Kyo-kotoba is, so to speak, a "common language" for maiko and geisha.
※ "Maiko(Pronunciation is my-ko)" means a person in the apprenticeship stage of Geiko (Geisha).
