You also recover MP when standing in blue/red damage with correct spirit equipped which is essential for some bosses, and how you refill so you don't have to go back to save all the time

I saw the anime ages ago, so I was surprised to see a new game about it coming out.

This one is quite the little gem and is one of my favorite games from 2021. It's a short and sweet experience that nicely scratches that metroidvania itch, but also leaves you wanting more. Not because it feels incomplete, but because it's just that fun to play.
It may not be as complex and well-designed as Symphony of the Night, but it really isn't a fault of the game because it was designed as something inherently more simple that has its own appeal. The art style certainly has a similar appeal, but the gameplay is more of its own thing. As long as you aren't going into this expecting it to be Symphony of the Night Part II and being disappointed that it isn't, you'll probably have an enjoyable time with the game.
So far I've finished the game three times, twice on PC and once on the Switch, and it never felt like it was getting old on any playthrough and I found new things to enjoy in each such as discovering new strategies using abilities I might have neglected previously. The boss fights are the highlight of the game and getting a boss rush mode is a nice addition that also adds to the replay value. All in all, I highly recommend this game to fans of the metroidvania style.

Almost done with the game on gamepass, and pre-ordered it from PlayAsia for the Switch. I absolutely loved the game. Reminded me (as I'm sure it will for many) of SotN (one of my favorite games of all time).

Never saw the anime. Been playing it, I'm at end of act 5 or start of 6. I'm really really enjoying it. I love how different all the melee weapons feel. How challenging, but fair the bosses are. After I beat this I plan to checkout Luna. I highly recommend playing this if you like metroidvania's.
I'm actually liking it more than Metroid Dread which I liked a lot

Seems like the game I would buy for the switch but I'm little concerned about the slowdowns. Has this been fixed or should I get the PS5 version instead?

I want this game. Only available on Play-Asia. Does anyone know if it will come to stores in USA?

Hi! Is this game tough? Is it as challenging as Metroid dread?

    • @jordanrudek7925
      @jordanrudek7925 3 года назад +2

Not nearly as hard as Dread. You level up and find new and better equipment at a good clip, so the difficult scales really gradually. Stage 6 is tough but manageable.

I tried to play this game on PC but there are insane frame rate issues on computers with RTX/Gsync/Multi-Display. Does this version suffer from the same issues? I feel like this game is right up my alley but like I said, unplayable via gamepass/steam for me.

As I mentioned in the review, playing portably on Switch was basically flawless in terms of performance. Docked definitely saw noticeable slowdown. Most of my playthrough was in handheld mode, so if you'd be doing the same, you're good to go.

@@jordanrudek7925 sorry, I think I might have missed you addressing performance. thanks for the reply though. It helped me make my decision. I do most of my switch playing docked because the joycons hurt my hands. I'm wondering if it is the same issue that the game has on PC running on a 120hz display. Anyway, this is RUclips so the least I can do is throw you a like and subscribe. Thanks again.

@@loremnir Thanks! And I hope it gets patched on your platform of choice because it really is an excellent little game.

Omg me too! I have an RTX2070 and it ran in slow motion. There's no options to fix it, and no mention of it online. Not frame drops just game running at half speed or less. Got it on switch and it runs great. Wish I didn't have to buy cuz I got gamepass, but oh well.
Don't miss out on this game

Parn is Derdlet's party member and lover. Parn is merely a human, so is much younger than her. Which is basically why she sees him in the beginning of the game.
I wonder if we see her other party members (like Woodchuck the thief, etc...).

so glad i have xbox and game pass where i can super average games like this for basically 1 buck a month, and get achievements, and delte it form my hard drive and memory. rather beat symphony of the night for the 20th time and that games like 25 years old. this game was short af and still too long
and yea, we still doing boss rushes in 2021? dont think this game came out in 2022 but if so, even more unacceptable. sure i beat all the bosses in a row on the 1st try, but ishouldnt have to be replaying all the bosses, let alone in a row like its the fkn 90s. lazy and boring and annoying af

Ugh... This was quite literally THE game that needed those backtracking elements to access areas not previously accessible! The game has such a SOTN feel that it ends up being a huge disappointment when you see how linear the game is. How on earth is that a boon & not a bust? It's a total bust & wasted opportunity imo, as it's irrelevant how many other games use this formula when they do it so poorly. Rarely does a game look and FEEL as good as SOTN & this one comes close, thus the one thing missing is the complexity of the world design & linearity of it all. It's a crying shame cus there was potential here for greatness but it was somewhat squandered based on bad & amateurish world design. This company needs to keep the graphic designers & programmers & fire whoever does the world design.
