- In this video, I demonstrate how to drill through thick steel with a cordless drill (corded will work too) and metal drill bits. As long as you have a somewhat powerful and high-quality drill, drilling through steel is not a problem.
The cobalt drill bits I used in this video:

Titanium nitride drill bits:

Cutting Oil (general purpose spray lubricants work too for softer steel):

Looks like you are drilling with too high rpm for metal
Does hole saw need lower speed?
Yes, hole saws should be run at lower speeds to prevent overheating, On most modern drills setting "1" should be adequate.
If u twist the chuck backwards after u tighten it, it will make a click and lock.
I know, I did lock in the normal drill bit but for some reason the hole saw didn’t want to lock into the chuck?
Proved to be bullshit.
@@SiAnon Really? I have even seen references to the locking feature in the instruction manual on some drills.
Wrong. This has proven to be false.
@@DragonBuilds No, that person is not correct. It has proven to be false.
theres no sectret in drilling steel any you dont need special drills just drill a 2 or 3 mmm pilot frst
You do need to use the right drill bit and oil though
@@DragonBuilds a high speed drill bit willl do unless its hardened steel and oil isnt necessary
@@2frogland That's true, but I found that cutting oil and a cobalt or TiN bit does help make it a lot easier. Interestingly enough, I found a lot of lower-grade steel is sometimes very hard, especially bed frames.
@@DragonBuilds i generally only use cobalt as i do alot of snapped stud removal but they arent necessary for mild steel once you get above a 1/2 inch oil /cooling helps
