You could see Robin was really cut up about his good friend Christopher Reeve, but he was trying real hard not to show it and let the mask slip. What a sweet guy Robin was.
Robin Williams has this great line in an interview in reference to Reeves' passing (as Superman and being confined to the chair) he said, "He's flying now" with so much pain and joy at the very same time in his voice it was powerful. Like he was sad to lose him but happy he was no longer in pain. Wish I could find the interview.
Where is the video where Robin Williams explains how Christopher went on to be Superman and Robin was Popeye and they walked down a street in New York and 2 black girls were like, "Superman & Popeye!"? I can't find it
As a die-hard sensitive fan of Robin, I can tell ya that when he goes high, he does terrific comedy and it moves me up but at the same time understanding his perspectives, he was unleashing his potential to every next level to make people laugh hard because he was going through hard stuffs, hard circumstances that wasn't making him happy internally especially missing his close friend C. Reeves. How ironic this sounds when you are not guaranteed it's making you happy but certainly other people though.
I have come to appreciate how Letterman asked a not-so-cliche question about Robin Williams' experience of acting together with his daugther. I think Robin appreciated that sort of thoughtful question. Thanks for sharing this.
You didn't interview Robin Williams...you offered him a chair, strapped yourself into yours, and held on for dear life. That being said, I can't say I'm surprised that it's when he's talking about Christopher Reeve when Robin dials it down a bit.

iM TRYING TO THINK OF ALL MY FAV MOVIES HE DID AND i cant. I want to say Toys because that one almost slipped by me as a kid but i found it. Mrs doubtfire is probably the one though. I loved flubber but it is the obvious pick for a 90s kid and Mrs doubtfire touched my soul as a fatherless boy demanding my own B mum go find him. She did later, TWICE. First she told me its my step dads brother ITS UNCLE MARK she said. To an 8yr old on the way to school. Yepp that was a day i got suspended im sure. Mark took me in YAY.... Then age 30 jelous my step mum was a closer granny to my kids she told me the truth, DRUNK. TO MY FACE. Ill never forgive her fully but im still a mommys boy deep down. I didnt have much choice with her hiding my daddy a RICH GUY who knows where i could have been today ive met the guy twice and hes given me 1000s and 1000s in help already. But i just think, what if he raised me haha. Could i have skipped the drugs and tried them later at uni mayb.

The world died a little when he died
Literally
Very true !
Robin was so hilarious. Got me rolling here again as I watch him. So spontaneous and automatic. Always locked into comedy. Always missed.

It's ironic to see robin grappling with Chris loss the way many of his close friends are dealing with his
