"Why do people always lock things behind doors instead of walls?" Actually, I read a book that had an answer to this. I don't know if it applies in this situation, since they're two COMPLETELY different universes, but since they're both magical doors trapping giant magical creatures in a different dimension, I would assume it's close enough. I don't remember it very well, but the basic idea was that "when sealing something with magic, there _has_ to be a way to undo it. If there isn't, the magic starts to unravel itself, weakening until it no longer works properly. If there's a way to undo it, no matter how difficult, the magic stays functional for an almost infinite amount of time." Plus, it's just common sense. If there's a door, then people will focus on trying to get through that door, and won't realise that they could just destroy it much easier. I'm not sure how much comic reading you've done MatPat but it's worth mentioning that the 10 rings used by the Mandarin come from the civilization of Fing Fang Foom. Also if Galactus were to invade our heroes in the MCU would also have to clash with his heralds, which is one reason it would also be hard for Galactus to be manipulated.
A theory that calculates how often matpat theories are correct, the accuracy over the lifetime of his channels and it needs to be hosted by Austin. THE SCIENCE 🔬
To be fair you can’t just put a giant monster in a room and expect it to just sit still while you build a wall, so you build the door ahead of time and put him in and shut the door

Galactus is one of those big baddies that has crossed paths with almost every Marvel property that exists, so he can easily fit where ever needed in a story and is impressive enough of a character to play a part - if not be - the cornerstone baddie. Another interesting fact is that CMON (company known for board games that also has a license for Marvel games) has a giant Galactus figure in their next game.
impossible put real actors in those original consumes, average movie goer is just walking back out the door. There is NOTHING good about how the originals looked back tyen.
Okay, about the Rings and why Wong never noticed them... They explain in the movie that the Mandarin's rings were made of a different energy compared to Shang Chi's. That is why Shang Chi's rings are a different color and seem to be more powerful than the Mandarin's.
Yeah its the same rings. But he mentions that they seem to be from a different universe. I think they were in a sense activated when Shang Chi killed the dweller, that's what Wong and the others felt
I theorized that Xu Wenwu, masked the intended use of the rings using a spell that gave the rings their blue hue when in his possession. When Shang-Chi started using the rings, the spell wasn't able to hold in his possession and gave off a yellow hue. It's original color. That's why the beacon wasn't reactivated until Shang-Chi started using the rings and they went back to being yellow.
Or maybe due to shang-chi's ancestral lineage in Ta Lo that gives him the connection to the Rings that Wenwu never have. Proly the City of Ta Lo has some connection to the Eternals or something
Just a reminder that in the story where the planets produce superpowered entities as "antibodies" to protect the celestial eggs in their cores, Galactus consumes these planets not just because he's hungry but as a counterbalance to the propagation of the celestials and their potential "overpopulation".
Question: Why would the rings call out to Galactus? are they like actual dinner bells that were just flung into space by Galactus hoping they would land on a planet with sentient creatures that could use them? And why did it take Shang-Chi to use them for the beacon to activate? Was his dad not the right flavour of human for the beacon to turn on?
I think it's because Shang-Chi is the lineage, remember he is the son of Ying Li, a decendant of Ta Lo, so think that might be the reason, or atleast partial reason why the ring worked with Shang-Shi but not Xu Wenwu his dad, its because like I said Shang-Shi the decendant of Ta Lo, while his father is 100% human.
i think it activated when shang chi warrior because something about him whether it’s his age or strength or maybe even it’s memories read or something, told the rings that the earth was primed for being eaten. maybe beating the dweller told it that as now earth made creatures strong enough to do stuff like that
You should do a Gravity Rush/ Gravity Rush 2 theory on whether or bot the city on the world pillar would be able to support itself with the amount of space given, and whether the city would stay upright

Trevor had some of the funniest scenes in the movie. "If they could teach the monkeys to act that brilliantly, just imagine what I could bring to the world"
2:52 For argument's sake I'm just gonna say that's because doors are also easier to close than walls, because they can actually be closed. Logically it does seem to be easier to trap something in a room by just quickly pushing a door closed, rather than asking it to politely stand still while you build a whole wall. Obviously, there's still some flaws with that in certain contexts of thing being sealed e.g when the door is actually built around them rather than just shut on them. And even in the contexts where it makes sense it still usually leaves the question of "Ok, but now the door's closed you could've still built a wall or even walls in front of it right?" But at least there are some somewhat decent arguments to be made.
Thats assuming the door was already there to begin with. If they have to build it, it takes more time to build a door than a wall. But usually in stories to explain why, they tend to give an answer of "they were buying time to learn how to truly defeat it " of making the item or person still accessible
My bet is they intended to build a wall after they close the door, but then think “You know what, that’s probably good enough.” and just left it like a rough draft of an essay.
It's so cool that Film Theory has enough episodes for a real Marvel style flipbook opening. Also, that wasn't really a door, it didn't have hinges or a handle, it technically WAS a wall, made out of dragon scales. And I would love to see what could come out if Disney ever purchased the rights to the Warcraft franchise.
Okay, I hear you, but hear me out... This is a cool theory but we know Kevin Feige likes to keep it simple, so I think we'll get Galactus with a little simplified storyline. Like how Tony Stark built Ultron instead of Hank Pym, or how the origins of a lot of characters' powers are changed to be explained with an interaction with the infinity stones now. I think he'll just be a celestial that doesn't like other celestials' ways. Or maybe he "merged" with a celestial right before the celestial was born and destroyed his planet, so now he devours planets to stop celestials from being born etc. (just like how he merged with the sentience of the universe) I'm just spitballing here, but I think if they made Ego a celestial, making Galactus a celestial as well to simplify his backstory for the general audience makes sense. But I thought of Galactus as well when they said the rings started a beacon. (I watched the movie after I watched Eternals so I knew they didn't belong to them.) I think they might belong to one of Galactus' old heralds, like Air-Walker. He's a good candidate because he's from Xandar which is already established in the MCU, his powers are vague enough that they could be bent to the powers of the rings, he doesn't already have an iconic object like Silver Surfer's board or Firelord's staff, and I don't think he's a popular enough character to make people mad just because he's killed off in the past. (That one Air-Walker fan reading this, I'm sorry, but come on.) Plus, the explanation for his powers are quite similar to how Eternals' powers are explained in the movie (that's true for most heralds I believe), which would tie in nicely with making Galactus a Celestial (just a copy-paste from marvel fandom .com because I'm lazy); _"The original Air-Walker possessed the vast cosmic power that Galactus granted to all of his heralds upon their initiation. His body was restructured to be a living battery of cosmic energy, the Air-Walker could utilize cosmic power for a variety of effects: heat, concussive force, magnetism, electricity, etc. Unlike most of the other heralds, the Air-Walker utilized this cosmic energy without an accompanying visible manifestation (such as Firelord's "cosmic flame")."_ Also, I believe Air-Walker was featured in a Marvel game recently, Marvel Contest of Champions. They sometimes introduce comic book versions of some characters to mobile games like Contest of Champions and Marvel Future Fight before they're introduced in the movies. So maybe there's something to that as well.
This just popped into my mind... Now that's kind of a separate theory, but, if they apply how Air-Walker was created to Eternals, I think that would solve some issues I had with them. Like, if Eternals are robots, how can Thanos and Starfox be brothers? Or, why was Sprite created as a child in the first place? Why were they given emotions and personalities? If they were " *restructured* to be a living battery of cosmic energy" instead of being *created* as robots, I think that would answer a lot of those questions. Maybe Celestials came to Titan and created a bunch of robots for themselves? And that could explain why Titan was weird like that and how it was destroyed, why Thanos didn't just double the resources, and he destroyed half of the population instead, etc.
Hey MatPat and theorists, I’d like to point out that you said the upcoming X-Men ‘97 was the only Fox Marvel property to be announced, but an MCU Fantastic 4 was actually announced a while ago. Great theory, and keep up the great work!
the rings were strong enough to break the prison and the dweller in darkness had not eaten in thousands of years aside from the few souls gained during the battle, which increased its strength noticeably each time. presumably in the original final battle it was well fed and thus MUCH stronger
i personally think that the beacon at the end is calling fin fang foom, considering fin fang foom is an alien dragon. Also, in the comics, the 10 rings are just a power source for fin fang foom's species that they accidentally left behind. i think that in the next shang chi movie, fin fang foom is going to try to recover the 10 rings for his homeworld: Kakaranthara edit: i added some detail
I think something you over looked, is that producers at marvel had seid they don't want to do live action Xmen because it will extend the MCU's life by 10 years
They already teased Galactus in one of the 'What if' episodes. When the Watcher is being slammed through dimensions by Ultimatron, you can see a glimpse of him taking a bite of the planet they're on.
Technically that was a wall, made of Dragon scales. And it wasn't sealed, so much as the alternate universe the dwellers came from was blocked off from our universe.
This idea could work, especially since they had announced Deadpool 3 would be the last of the Deadpool movies, but also a Marvel Studios movie. I wasn't sure how it could be both, but your theory could help explain it.
“Why do people seal things behind doors” well matpat, fable haven has a very good explanation. Magical prisons built to last forever don’t hold their magic forever, as it weakens. Instead, zzyzx was designed to last a very very very long time, but could be opened with certain strategies. Things meant to last forever rarely last as long as things meant to last a VERY LONG TIME. It’s just a matter of how they’re sealed.
I would say to seal something with a door is to give it a point where it knows it can get out. This is to focus its attention there instead of elsewhere. You can brace a door and prepare your people around just the door. In opposition with no door the seal entity will try all ways to get out and you need to spread out people to form a perimeter. Then again this would only help with simple creatures.
@@bobbypendergrass1977 doors, the entities is distracted by a possible opening vs searching for a weak point in your cell. . Why carve a hole in the room when there's a door with hinges x0 If you're so powerful hinges seem easier to break down vs making a new door.
I want the 90's animated X-Men to port directly over from their animated universe into the MCU. Not as cartoons but realistic versions of those same characters complete w/ their respective colorful costumes & personalities. The MCU likes to do things not seen b4. & we have yet to see those iconic & beloved costumes on the big screen.
13:45 - I theorize that Tao-Lo used them purely mechanically, and lived off their essence, hence the magic used was none at all or very little. Where as Shan-Chi also knew magic his mother taught him which had him use the rings not only more efficiently, but actually turn them "ON" with his magic. Think of it like a laptop. Some one can use a laptop to hold open a door, or bash something, or just leave it plugged in to keep warm off the charger, but it isn't REALLY being used, not enough to be caught by a system online. But someone who actually knows how to use a laptop, turns it on and get it online, now it can be seen online and is correctly being used. To compare this to Shang-Chi, Tao-Lo (Mandarin) used the Rings in a brutish, cave-man manner, as he used them purely physically, not using magic. Where as Shang-Chi knowing magic was able to activate them and use them correctly. That's my theory...a comment theory!
I remember X-men. I recall the story bounced around a lot, but that's fair with such a big cast getting a lot of time to develop. It was so much better than Spider-man's 80 part Sins of the Father saga.
7:16 Ha. No. What we actually want is for the actual/original/non-rebooted X-men movies (Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, etc) to be in MCU. No reboot, no remakes, just for them to be made part of the MCU.
MatPat: "So you see how all of these things are pointing towards the Dweller in Darkness and the X-Men? You see where I'm going with this? That's right, GALACTUS!" I love your leaps in logic man! xD
Hey mat pat I have a theary about alvin What if there was 4 brothers but alvin ate One and simon as well as theadore can't tell on alvin and they plan to eat dave
To be fair, it is very hard to trap an entity behind a wall, especially a big wall. Walls are not meant to be moved through, so not only do you have to lure it to where the wall can be erected, but you must also keep it there long enough to do so. And in defense of the people of Ta Lo, they did seem to put up a barrier of the strongest material they had at hand, which took multiple hits from one of the strongest weapons they knew of to damage enough for the Dweller to break free. Would dropping an additional mountain or three onto the 'door' been ideal? Yes. Practical? Idk
These intros are Soo hilarious, also the videos never thought I'd like watching an educational channel, although you do make it seem fun and also hilarious, I loves your videos, and all the other theorists who work on this channel, thanks for always putting a smile on my face, and also teaching stuff I wouldn't be eager to learn in actual school
Xu Wenwu didn’t activate the beacon on the 10 rings because he “wasn’t worthy” and that’s why he also never unlocked their full potential. That’s why Shang Chi was able to use them so easily and so strong from the beginning.
Galactus was the lone survivor of his UNIVERSE. Technically, that includes his galaxy - but the emphasis is that he's the lone being that survived the collapse of his universe.
I’m rarely surprised by your theories as I theorize a lot as well but the details about Wandavision and the voices really caught me off guard. Well done and excellent job !
13:40 my guess as far as why they noticed Shang-Chi's use and not WenWu's might be due to the power level usage. Wenwu's power usage of the rings was probably at a basic or average level of magic usage that might not get all that much notice with all the regular magic that gets used on Earth. You'd have to be REALLY looking for that unique magic signature and scrolling through subsections of magic to notice and find it. But Shang-Chi in that movie probably pushed the power intensity when he fought The Dweller in Darkness, that surpassed the base-line magic levels Khamar Taj would notice. And that got Wong to look into the specifics of what was going on and to seek out Shang-Chi himself.
Just to throw it out there, X-Men Animated Series was revived a few years ago after the recent version of Secret Wars called X-Men '92. While not a direct sequel, it used much of the show's factors as a jumping off point, making it a spiritual successor of the series.
I dunno if matpat forgot a detail but in order to seal someone or something then you should first put it in and in order to do that you need an opening.
Alright. I can’t be the only one thinking that theyre making everyone a little TOO powerful? I mean there are literal unkillable beings and then there’s good old Spidey beating up some thugs on the street in the same universe. Doesn’t make much sense to me.
About the rings and Shang-chi using them. I think the father wasn’t really “using” the rings in the way that Shang-chi used them the first time he fully did to defeat the dweller in darkness. His father used them in a different way but Shang-chi and his mother used the rings in a more powerful/correct way hints the color change and Shang-chi was the only one that let them explode.

Endgame was a great ending. It was Iron Man’s story

Maybe what he wanted was his mother's world
maybe galactus doesnt like oranges? so when it was used by the mandarins he didnt come
@@KAMUPhobies bruh

For argument's sake I'm just gonna say that's because doors are also easier to close than walls, because they can actually be closed.
And even in the contexts where it makes sense it still usually leaves the question of "Ok, but now the door's closed you could've still built a wall or even walls in front of it right?"
But at least there are some somewhat decent arguments to be made.
I'm not gonna make a Cask of Amontillado joke...I'm not gonna make a Cask of Amontillado joke...
What if the wall closes like a door to be a wall again.
When is a door not a door? when it is a wall.

But I thought of Galactus as well when they said the rings started a beacon. (I watched the movie after I watched Eternals so I knew they didn't belong to them.) I think they might belong to one of Galactus' old heralds, like Air-Walker. He's a good candidate because he's from Xandar which is already established in the MCU, his powers are vague enough that they could be bent to the powers of the rings, he doesn't already have an iconic object like Silver Surfer's board or Firelord's staff, and I don't think he's a popular enough character to make people mad just because he's killed off in the past. (That one Air-Walker fan reading this, I'm sorry, but come on.) Plus, the explanation for his powers are quite similar to how Eternals' powers are explained in the movie (that's true for most heralds I believe), which would tie in nicely with making Galactus a Celestial (just a copy-paste from marvel fandom .com because I'm lazy);
_"The original Air-Walker possessed the vast cosmic power that Galactus granted to all of his heralds upon their initiation. His body was restructured to be a living battery of cosmic energy, the Air-Walker could utilize cosmic power for a variety of effects: heat, concussive force, magnetism, electricity, etc. Unlike most of the other heralds, the Air-Walker utilized this cosmic energy without an accompanying visible manifestation (such as Firelord's "cosmic flame")."_
Also, I believe Air-Walker was featured in a Marvel game recently, Marvel Contest of Champions.
Peter quill ends up being galactus, Sincerely, A time traveler.

i personally think that the beacon at the end is calling fin fang foom, considering fin fang foom is an alien dragon. Also, in the comics, the 10 rings are just a power source for fin fang foom's species that they accidentally left behind. i think that in the next shang chi movie, fin fang foom is going to try to recover the 10 rings for his homeworld: Kakaranthara

That's a pretty good point.
Wasn’t expecting a comment about Fablehaven on a Theory video, but it’s a very pleasant surprise.

Yes. Practical? Idk

my guess as far as why they noticed Shang-Chi's use and not WenWu's might be due to the power level usage.

About the rings and Shang-chi using them. I think the father wasn’t really “using” the rings in the way that Shang-chi used them the first time he fully did to defeat the dweller in darkness.
