- This video shows the various sounds a Yamaha RoadStar 102 C.I. will make.
It also shows how to adjust the choke, the idle and what blipping is... At the end of the video what the sound of dragging your floorboards is when turning...
And... a special bonus... what it looks like to pass a guy on a Harley at 105 MPH... (the Harley was only doing 65...) LOL!!!
Thanks, this cleared up a few of the remaining sounds from my recently purchased 07. At first I was alarmed by all the different noises but as I have learned what each one is, it has put me at ease. A couple you didn't get are the buzzing noise you get when using the brakes from a high speed due to the drilled rotors and the "knocking" sounds the engine makes under constant load. Great vid and here's to the Yami Road Star!
Great video thank you. Now I feel better about my 01s noises
Thanks a lot for this video , very instructive.. I have a Road Star Midnight Silverado 2007 for quite a bit, when I finally got it, it sounded like a diesel engine I thought it was something loose, It had only 8000 miles when I got it in 2010 but someone told me that they sound like that unfortunately I didnt know anybody who had it but this video solve all my doubts.. thanks a lot and ride safe.
Always have liked the look of a white bike! My 2005 black & white Roadie has Freedom Performance true-duals and I love the sound. I've noticed that most people who complain about V-twin engine noise have never owned an air-cooled V-twin before, most rode multi-cylinder water-cooled bikes. I've owned numerous V-twin, mostly Harleys, in my life and I can assure you that they all pretty much sound like this bike does. the water jackets do a good job of muffling the engine.
Thanks for the video! Now I know where that buzzing is coming from!
I have an 09' Stratoliner 1854cc and love it, This bike sounds like mine. Mine gets a "turbo-diesel" sound upon acceleration which I love to hear...sorta like an APU on a "Huey" getting cranked up before kicking in the main rotor turbine. Good looking bike!!!! Love the color.
Just bought the exact same bike, 06 white Silverado, with only 3450 miles on it. Had a 99 Royal Star for 13 years. Has taken me awhile to get used to all the different sounds. The Royal Star had the clutch basket whine so I decided it was time for a change. Besides the new sounds I am getting used to the added heat near my right ankle. Thinking about extending the floorboard out a few inches...just don't want to limit my cornering ability. Great video...super helpful.
+Dave Carpenter... Congratulations Dave... You're gonna love the bike... There used to be a guy that was the member of the RoadStarClinic dot com who would make a couple of metal bars with all the right machined holes in all the right places that would let you move the footboards and controls forward by about three inches with no other modifications (except to pull the break line off the first retaining clip). I had them and it felt so natural I never needed highway pegs... (which I never liked and thought to be unsafe anyway.)Go online to the clinic and ask around... At the very least, you may find the plans to have a machine shop make a pair for you... If you put those extenders on you don't drag the boards any more than normal and as they say anyway... "if you ain't draggin' you ain't ridin'"... LOL!!! Enjoy the ride... I envy you!
Update: Hey Dave... I found the article... follow this link.roadstarclinic.com/content/view/74/107/
Noises would bother me too when I fist got and after a lot of research I learned they're just noisy machines, but what a machine they are!! Great video too BTW lets you know you're not alone Lol
saw your link on roadstarclinic. glad to know yours makes the EXACT same valve noise lol. its been worrying me but it runs fine.
Thanx..Great video.....what a nice stretch of road to open her up....
The hand adjustable PMS screw is a great investment if you live somewhere like I do where you get all the seasons. Makes life much easier.
Thanks a lot for this video , very instructive.. I have looking for this bike Road Star Midnight Silverado 2007 for quite a bit, when I finally got it, it sounded like a diesel engine I thought it was something loose, It had only 8000 miles when I got it in 2010 but someone told me that they sound like that unfortunately I didnt know anybody who had it but this video solve all my doubts.. thanks a lot and ride safe.
Thanks so much guys~! Just got a 2000 & love the bike of course. Being the biggest bore I've ever strapped into I was really wondering what all that 'crackling' was on cool down. Love the website as well. Ride on~!~!
The engine has pushrods, unlike camchain tensioners which can go out...its a little noisier but they last longer...….some are 200,000 + and still going strong!
That was great! I just bought my awesome 2003 but all the mechanical noise has been bothering me a bit. I guess some of it is the push rods which help the bike have a low center of gravity compared to OHC(?). So - anyway - glad that all these noises are normal. I am gonna squeeze the front brake and see what happens.
Is the buzzing sound on ais mean it's good or bad lol
Yeah my 01 is noisy af but runs great 👍
Sounds like the lifters may be an issue. road stars are known for faulty lifters.. I love the bike tho,
What about a light whine/hiss noise from the front engine in gears 1-4?
Check intake for cracks take the AIS system and put it in the trash
After a ride i turn off the engine and there is a breathing sound, 2001 1600 13k miles.
The O ring's on the intake could be bad
I have a 2006 Roadstar….Actually, I don't notice most of those ugly sounds! It sure doesn't sound like a Harley,,,,, but then again I wouldn't trade up for one.....Better exhaust would be the way to go! My Roadstar is SUPER dependable!!!!
Same bike in Pakistan
I mean the water jackets on a watercolled bike, not this bike!!
@lost4ever333,
I put a video together about throttle blipping... It explains how and why Roadies do that...
Good luck with the FJR
Bob
Typical Road Star sounds!
