It feels like you’re flying a fighter jet, driving a NASCAR, getting tossed around inside a barrel, while almost getting your arms cut off by the roof. All of which makes for one of the best roller coasters in the world.
Rode this yesterday 8 times and must admit after being at so many theme parks the beast still could be my all time favorite. There are a few things videos will never show. 1. The horrendous sound the beast makes when going through the tunnels. When leaving the first tunnel the beast screams louder as you exit. 2. The darkness of the tunnels. Cameras brighten them up but they are pretty dark even in the day. 3. Night time riding when it’s completely dark in the woods. All that to say, if you want a different ride experience, do the very front, the very back (seat 18) for the roughest ride, or seat 17 which is way smoother than 18 but still has the bite of the back. Reason for this is because there are 3 rows to a car and the middle one has no wheels which makes it smoother (a lot). Enjoy!
Did they fix it? When I went to ride it two years ago it was one of the most unbearable experiences I think I've ever had while riding a coaster. My friend and I were thrashed around, our heads nearly collided at one point. It literally hurt to ride the ride at nearly all times, especially on the straightaways where it not only shook you from side to side, but bounced you up and down at the same time, which sucked because I find the layout and setting to be awesome. Once we got off the ride, and the ride operators asked how it went, people were literally booing and asking to get off the ride asap. I've never seen that before on any of the coasters I had ridden, and I've ridden some pretty rough rides.

lol you guys must have literally never gone anywhere besides Kings island. Its so incredibly outrageously absurdly stupid to even call this a top 20 coaster, let alone number 1, that you guys are just clearly speaking from 0 experience at all. It has next to no g-forces at all, 50% of the ride is literally just going straight like a fucking railroad more than a roller coaster, its not intense, not scary, not exciting except the 20 seconds you spend in that double helix, but even then the speed just isn't that high and the turn just isn't that sharp. Its just brisk and a fun little trip. It wouldn't even be a top 10 coaster at Cedar Point or Six Flags Magic Mountain. This thing is also brutally uncomfortable like most older Wooden Coasters that have now been demolished to replace them with something more comfortable. Brutal neck strain does not equal exciting forces, just pain. Roller coasters are one area of development that have unquestionably, conclusively, factually gotten better and better over the years. COmparing some old Relic like the Beast to modern coasters like Steel Vengeance is just ridiculous - They've learned a lot about how to pack in thrills since building The Beast.

You are very right. My friends attempted to get me on the diamondback, but I didn’t no matter what they said. They lied to me and told me the beast was a small easy one. First time I’ve ever been thankful that someone lied to me.
When I first went to Kings Island, back in 2001 or 2002 _(can't remember,)_ my first and last rides that day were the Beastie and the Son of Beast. It took 20-odd years for me to finally go ahead and try it, but I finally rode The Beast. _Holy Hell, what a coaster!_

I don't ride most roller coasters anymore, but I rode this as a kid and it was the best!! My dad got motion sickness but loved roller coasters, and he was fine if he sat in the front seat. So we waited for the front car and had a blast every time. This would have been in the mid-80s. I loved everything about this roller coaster! Great memories!!
OMG l love those wooden rollercoasters. I marvel at the thought of how it took to make them, the time, effort, and the people who designed it. Just love it
People can fight me on this but this has to be my favorite ride here. It has a stunning setting dashing through the tunnels and forest and that double helix at the end always gets me due to its intensity! Wonderful ride.
The Beast is WICKED FAST, has two steep climbs and drops that make it feel like two back-to-back rides, and is even more fun if you ride during different times of the day. Hopping on after the sun goes down? The covered tunnels you'll fly through will be even more disorienting and fantastically-intense.
Did this ride for the first time last night and oh man. This is now up there as my favorite wooden coaster I ever been on. I'm from California so when I rode this. We did this at night and experience at night is truly one of a kind.
The double helix after the second to lift is probably one of my favorite elements on any roller coaster. The slowly increasing speed as you start to bank into the helixes is incredible, such great build up. And then you hit the tunnels and everything just goes completely dark. One thing this video didnt capture is the sound the reverberates throughout the tunnel. Its like this nasty, piercing screeching. Maybe its the sound of screams mixed with the wind or the grinding of the track. Its an insane feeling and then you pop out, turn back around, and go in again one more time. The car literally feels like its about to be ripped from the rails at any second. Such a memorable ride, any enthusiast needs to give it a try.
My first coaster ride ever at 8 years old the summer after it opened in 1979. Rode with my dad who convinced me not to cry. Forever my favorite. Wish the sound hadn't been muted in the video. The rattles are madness in the tunnels.
3:42 let me just say I absolutely love this part of the ride. This is the reason I rode it twice the other day but have ridden it several times now. That small little hole that you’re barreling towards does not at all seem big enough, and I absolutely love the terror I feel each time I’m heading straight for it.
I have been on many wooden roller coasters and what makes them exciting is the fear that they're going to go off the rails along with the rumbling and clanking sounds.
Even now, a fantastic ride. Rides like the Voyage at Holiday world and so much more wouldn’t have existed without this pioneer of a wooden coaster. And King island built it all by themselves. The true wooden coaster that broke the standard of making those simple out and backs. Great ride even now
I rode the beast for the first time today(technically yesterday?). My friend and I waited in line for about 45 minutes (honestly not bad considering it was Saturday.) and let me tell you it was worth it. I was nervous because everyone says the beast is the worst about rocking you around and stuff. But it wasn’t that bad, especially since we asked to sit near the back. (Lane 13) It was so much fun though I will definitely be riding it every time I go now.
I worked at an amusement park in the late 80's and we had a simulation ride called the SR2 that had this ride as the movie. This brings back memories as I've never ridden the ride, but I've seen it similarly to this but a bit grainier and with motion.
Woah. It looks so strange without the Vortex. I rode Orion a couple times yesterday. Day and night. Last car of train. The G forces going up the hills were like blasting off into space. The banks were the same way. I rather Orion been a floorless launcher with inversions. Or a flying coaster like Tatsu where the seats tuck instead of lay back like FireHawk. Im looking forward to October riding the Beast. Its still being worked on.
I haven’t ridden this in probably 15 years so I decided to watch this out of curiosity. I’m kind of amazed how I can still recognize different parts of the ride.
Sad to see all of the branches and trees overgrown at the tunnels opening I remember the trees lines at least being 10ft away from the tracks when I was a kid
I rode this ride the other day for the first time and I absolutely loved it. I grew up with Disneyland and I WISH they had a coaster like this there. If I ever go here again, in definitely going on the beast again! Even got the nanocoaster model of it lol
Went to King's Island yesterday for my 7th trip ever. Rode all the coasters, and the Beast is still my favorite. Son of Beast was a close second but long gone now.
This is a 4 hour drive from me. Made my first visit this year. This ride I saved for my 100th credit and I also saved it for night. This was absolutely incredible and my new all time favorite ride. After visit 1 I have already made visit 2 3 and 4 lol. Also plan on visit 5 and 6 this year too!
Rode it for the first time in my life last week.. we live about 2 miles from Kings Island, my experience was really smooth.. they say wood roller coasters can vary from day to day

Maybe time for an RMC conversion? 🤔 That'd be bonkers, if it kept the length but threw in all the crazy elements RMC does along the way, one can dream..
@@DuecePiece I just went today and 3 times and I love this ride Orion is too smooth for me because it’s just love the bumpiness and how scary it is in the tunnels
Rode this in the early 80s when I was in A.C.E. (American Coaster Enthusiasts) .... very quickly became my #1 wooden coaster.
3:27 awesome few of the park, and Orion going down the drop. Perfect timing for the lift! =)
yeah
OMG l love those wooden rollercoasters. I marvel at the thought of how it took to make them, the time, effort, and the people who designed it. Just love it
Riding this at night and flying thru those tunnels is dope.
Experienced a very rough ride today. If you do ride I suggest not letting your head get anywhere near the headrest unless you enjoy concussions
I last rode over 10 years ago. I had to lift my butt out of the seat at the bottom of hills to avoid all the shaking giving me a headache.
The Beast will possibly give you an anyuerism or however you spell it, LOL
People can fight me on this but this has to be my favorite ride here. It has a stunning setting dashing through the tunnels and forest and that double helix at the end always gets me due to its intensity! Wonderful ride.
The Beast is WICKED FAST, has two steep climbs and drops that make it feel like two back-to-back rides, and is even more fun if you ride during different times of the day. Hopping on after the sun goes down? The covered tunnels you'll fly through will be even more disorienting and fantastically-intense.
Steep? No.
I’ve ridden this an uncountable number of times. I’ll always love this ride.
This is why kings island is one of my favorite amusement parks
rode this a few days ago ISTGGGGG THIS IS THE BEST ROLLER COASTER IVE EVEN BEEN ON i love how rough and bumpy it is
Riding this at night is an experience you’ll never forget
There’s NOTHING like it
Rode it 2 times and MAN it is so awesome! This is the type of coaster I like. It’s so fun 🤩
will never forget the sound it makes going through the tunnels or the night rides - such a special coaster
One of my favorites! Long live The Beast!
Omg not the dimond back at the top still at the beginning 😭😭
This is my favorite ride at Kings Island and probably one of the best if not the best roller coasters ever made it is an absolute rush to ride this!
Even now, a fantastic ride. Rides like the Voyage at Holiday world and so much more wouldn’t have existed without this pioneer of a wooden coaster. And King island built it all by themselves. The true wooden coaster that broke the standard of making those simple out and backs. Great ride even now
The sound it makes on the track is so good!!!!
Been riding this since it's first year of operation. Now, I ride it with my granddaughter !
I got my 65 year old mother to ride this coaster one more time back in the late 90’s. She absolutely loved this coaster.
This roller coaster is a beast it's an absolute Savage it's mean it's fast it's brutal some will say it's the greatest roller coaster of all time
Havent riden this since I was little, like 8 years ago. Scared the crap out of me. Gonna ride it again for the first time since tomorrow!
Crazy how this seems tame in this video, particularly second half. This ride is super intense and great in person. Would recommend!
Its still being worked on.
ahem.. blasting off into space? pretty sure that would be the point of a ride called ORION, right? Also the beast is back with new wood.
I can't believe Vortex is gone.
❤❤Looks great! It reminds me a huge runaway mine train ride!
So smooth I love the ride I lifted out of my seat on the first drop and the guy in front of me was able to stand up mid ride
Love the bumpy ride because without it then it doesn’t really feel like a beast
This video doesn't do it justice, particularly the sense of speed and borderline viciousness
Even better at night! Ride it when it first opened! So glad that it is preserved.
Such a classic!
Am I blind or is the red coaster's train at the start of the clip stuck going up the hill? 0:08
They're probably testing it, every morning they do tests before and a little after the park opens at 10:00
This has got to be so breathtaking to ride in person 😍
One of the greatest coasters of all time. As an adult I’m still afraid this thing will kill me every time I ride it. It’s that scary 😂
I rode this ride the other day for the first time and I absolutely loved it. I grew up with Disneyland and I WISH they had a coaster like this there. If I ever go here again, in definitely going on the beast again! Even got the nanocoaster model of it lol
Well Disney has never built a wooden roller coaster before.
I always thought it was so cool how King’s Island built The Beast in-house!
I grew up in east central Indiana and rode this a lot. Thanks for the ride.
That first long straight section under the awnings is BANKED which adds some nice spice!
I love this ride, but man it was rough when I got on it last week!
Chiropractor insurance please!
There are two kinds of rough, the beast is the best example of a good kind of rough
Went to King's Island yesterday for my 7th trip ever. Rode all the coasters, and the Beast is still my favorite. Son of Beast was a close second but long gone now.
This looks very intense and fun. It looks like the kind that will leave you with a banging headache, although the headache looks worth it haha
There is either something wrong with the audio or this is by far the smoothest woody on the planet.
The beast has always been my favorite coaster in the park and everyone should ride it of a night in the front seat cause it’s amazing and so much fun.
The Beast and The Bat must be the most underated coasters in kings island
Rode it for the first time in my life last week.. we live about 2 miles from Kings Island, my experience was really smooth.. they say wood roller coasters can vary from day to day
The only time I'm scared on a roller coaster is when it's "The Beast" at night. Best night ride there is.
me and my dads fav coaster ever ! it feels much faster than it looks and is fucking awesome to ride at night!
Me and my grandpa love this ride
doing this at night 2 years ago was wild u dont know when the drops are going to happend form that day and on this will always be my fav coaster❤❤❤❤
Looks fantastic I love wooden roller coasters the sound of it the feel of it etc. I live near six flags Great America for many years and I used to love the American Eagle.
This Rollercoaster is THE GOAT!
Please post an updated version with the new retracting! It’s so much different but so much better!
did y'all slow it down again? still a good ride tho, went a week ago
I went in this when it was new and the tallest freestanding roller coaster in the world. Barely tall enough but I remember that day.
Woah that lift chain was faster than when I went on it
Looks like a NICE ride as opposed to a THRILL ride. Not much of an adrenaline ride which is what I'd want. But very pleasant nonetheless
It’s so weird going out of the station and seeing just an empty plot of land where vortex was 😢
One of the best roller coasters I've ever rode.
I love how you can see diamondback stopped on the lift hill lol
My ride operators typically will play “Livin on a prayer” on the second hill.
SqUiDwArD oN a ChAiR
This is the best night time ride in the world IMO. last time we went it was also foggy when we rode it right before closing - just perfect.
I just went to KI yesterday your staff is very good amazing park!
