    Hi Brendon I always get a buzz when you show Australia artists. I LOVE Paul Kelly he was part of my teens and I’ve aged alongside his amazing catalog. I saw him for the first time as a support before the support act to The Motels in about 1984/85. He’s a living legend in Oz. Sometimes called The Bard, sometimes likened to Bob Dylan for his rich storytelling style. The Angels also an incredible rock band from my youth. Amazing live. Greetings from Oz! 🦘🇦🇺

      Been listening to Tangerine Dream for almost 50 years. The first 4 albums are challenging. I would not recommend starting there. However, the Phaedra (1974) to Underwater Sunlight (1986) period contains some really outstanding music. My favorite is Tangram. If you get into this, try Klaus Schulze next. I love most all of his.

    Glad you finally got an IQ album, they were regularly at the Marquee (UK) in the 80s along with Marillion, Pendragon, Solstice, Pallas, & Twelfth Night; all classed as ' Neo-Prog. Which kept the genre alive despite hatred from the music press. Get the IQ album ' The Wake' released on exactly the same day as Marillion's Misplaced Childhood, both brilliant albums😊

    Don’t know if you know this or not but, Thunder was kinda discovered by Duran Duran’s original guitar player Andy Taylor. He also produced it. I don’t know if it was intentional or not, but Andy Taylor’s first solo album is called “Thunder”, which is a good rockin’ album that sounds nothing like Duran Duran. You should pick it up if you don’t have it.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  6 месяцев назад +1

      No the Andy Taylor album Thunder came out before the band Thunder even formed. So there is no connection in the name. Also I do own all of Andy Taylor’s solo albums as well as his unreleased 2nd album Nobody’s Business (1989) 👍

    As a long time IQ fan, hope you explore further. One of the best "New Wave of British Progressive Rock" (NWOBPR) bands from the 80s, they spearheaded the movement with peers like Marillion, Pallas, Pendragon, Twelfth Night, etc. They're still going, and their catalog is incredible. They only seem to get better through the years. They had a short more commercial 2 album stint on a major label in the late 80s with a different singer that I would go to last. Brilliant progressive rock, brilliant band, and some would even rank them higher than Marillion as the best British progressive rock band of the 80s - to modern day.

    I wouldn't mind having Ponty's IMAGINARY VOYAGE from 1976. No doubt, Proggy at times...this era of Jazz Fusion combined elements of Jazz-Rock-Funk-Classical-Prog Rock. Interesting times. The guitarist on this , Daryl Steurmer, did time with Genesis & Phil Collins.
    I laffed at your rationale for buying Voices ("...ya know, these guys are gonna Rock"). That was my thing when I bought Aerosmith's debut back in the day. Never heard of them...they just looked the part. ;-)

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  6 месяцев назад +2

      I buy based on that all the time. It goes back to the late 80’s and 90’s before the internet was a thing and instead the only thing we had to go on was what the album cover and band looked like. I got very good at this back then and still use the rationale today…and it hasn’t let me down yet! 👍

    Do you have a cleaning routine for the used CDs or do you just let them be? I find that used stuff often has a film of nastiness that you might not be able to see but can feel. I always do a 99% isopropyl alcohol wipe down on the outside of the case at least. And when I’m done, my cotton pad is brownish. It’s gross.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  6 месяцев назад

      I clean as needed and it differs based on the CD and its condition. For the most part I don’t buy CDs that are that dirty that need cleaning. Most stores I go to change those cases out. But sometimes I find there is an album I want and the only copy leaves a lot to be desired and I might take a chance on it. Like you rubbing alcohol is what I use as well. It dries and leaves no residue like some cleaning products do.

    The IQ album you have was not originally intended to be released. What happened was there was a TV series called Live In London. This was broadcast then the show was released as a CD/LP/VHS against the bands wishes in 1986 on Samurai Records. What you have is the bands own re-release from 1992. This is mostly a live version of their well regarded second album The Wake. What should be stressed is that if all the IQ live releases were ranked this would be down the bottom, so do not be put off one of the best British prog rock bands on your first buy.
