I had an ashtray crack when I put a lit cigarette in it before starting a song on drums. A guy got mad at me because I "broke" his expensive ashtray! Obviously it was defective...
At 15:27 It Sounds Billy knew the structure he wanted but he didn't know what chords to place in that structure and Mr. Robbins picked the best chords possible to place in that structure ( It could have been done so many different ways it's unreal, but none would have been as good as the way Pig Robbins did it ) BTW I was in Spring City TN back in August to see family & i didn't see any acknowledgment plaques to Mr. Robbins ( i asked around and mostly got puzzled looks with I'm not sure as the answer unless i asked everybody that didn't know that there is one and i didn't see it ) I believe he's earned one, don't you Spring City?
I haven't made it all of the way through the interview, yet, but wondered how Pig might have felt if some producer asked him to play some "Floyd Cramer style" licks?!!
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Just wondering if Pig may have laughed, etc. about being asked to play in his friend's style on a session post "Last Date". 😊
Okay.... I understand now... answer is he would’ve laughed and played it:) He kinda played that Floyd style anyway. He loved Floyd. Thanks again for watching... Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum I tried very diligently a few years ago to somehow see if I could get the Don Robertson demo on "Please Help Me I'm Falling" where, as the story goes, Don played that slip note style and Chet (I think) asked Floyd to emulate it. No success in locating the demo. Probably ended up in a studio trash can. 😢
Pig also played on the great country LP by the late Leon Russell called 'Hank Wilson's Back Volume 1" Not a bad track on this LP they are all Top Shelf!!!
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum just dawned on me this morning that he played on my fav Charlie Rich song Nothing IN The World To Do With Me did he play on all of Crystals LPs and do you know, why, even though he was a really good piano player, Charlie never played on his recording thanks
He might have played on a few studio recordings after Billy Sherrill started producing him but most always Pig. Pig just came up with great original riffs that Charlie couldn’t. Charlie could copy them greatly but creating and copying are two different worlds. Also it allowed Charlie to concentrate on singing. I’m sure he played a lot on his early Sun recordings... best, Joe

last morsel of interesting information out of all your guests. Plus, you did
ask him the one question I would have been hesitant to ask him. "How did
you get the name Pig?" I bet everyone that watches your interviews with him,
with the exception of Forrest, was hoping you would ask him. Thanks for the
musical history lessons and the laughs too Joe! Blessings to all...
Hi Kathy..... Pig is my friend... He knows how I feel about him and would never say or do anything to disrespect or hurt him... or anyone. As you saw he had no problem answering my question with a jolly laugh. Not sure who Forrest is you mentioned ... sorry if I forgot who he is.. Thank you again Kathy for watching and your generous words of support.... Best... Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum It's obvious you two have a wonderful relationship and I know you ask him that because you
know everyone would want to know how he got the nickname. It
is a question everyone would want to ask and I'm so glad you did
because we were all wanting to know the answer. Forrest, Pig's
brother left his comment about how proud he was of Pig and of
course he knows how Pig got his nickname. The interview was
just perfect in every way and lots of fun to watch. He is charming
and another incredible talent I'd have never know about if not for
you! As always, another 10* interview Joe! Thanks, Keep em coming!
Thanks KATHY for your thoughtful comments as usual and explaining what Forrest you were referring to. Best, Joe
Perfect!
Great!
Thanks... Joe
He forgot about Neil Young. Priceless. Thanks, Joe!
Thank you too T... joe
Really nice interview. very humble man with lots of funny stories. Quick question, did he play on crazy by Patsy Cline? Looking forward to other interviews. Cheers
Eric, my dad, Joe, passed September 28th- but I know he would have appreciated your kind comment and support for the channel. I believe that was Floyd Cramer.
Hope you can visit the museum sometime.
Best,
Britt
Pig played on a number of Jimmy Swaggart's classical gospel albums from the 1970s like "God's Gonna Bless His Children, "Only Jesus", "We'll Talk It Over" and "Somewhere Listening.'"
My baby makes me smile lord don’t she make me smile.
Pig seems hard to get anything out of lol 😅. Bob Dylan was one of my hero’s. He was a tremendous intellectual!
he so cool
Joe I wish you'd do one with Lloyd Green while he's still alive he was part of the A team session players
Me too Jennings….Joe
Did Skeeter Davis bring the Everley Brothers to the Opry.
Joe, a little extra volume would help on this during your intro. The interview is almost right but should be a bit louder to comfortably hear the parts where he lowers his voice. Hell, I might be going deaf! LOL! Thanks for sharing these videos with us.
Thanks for watching Ban... joe
Hi George... thanks for sharing your comments... best... joe
I haven't made it all of the way through the interview, yet, but wondered how Pig might have felt if some producer asked him to play some "Floyd Cramer style" licks?!!
Buzz... not sure how you mean this...?
Joe
That’s a true story as far as I know... you are very knowledgeable. Best, Joe
Pig also played on the great country LP by the late Leon Russell called 'Hank Wilson's Back Volume 1" Not a bad track on this LP they are all Top Shelf!!!
There’s a cool movie Leon made with a lot of the original Nashville A-Team players.
👍
My friend Joe
did Pig ever work with Jim Reeves or Johnny Horton or Hank Snow?
Ginny..... without checking I’m going to say yes. I think Pig played on everything during those years. Best, Joe
I’m sure he played a lot on his early Sun recordings... best, Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum ok gotcha
Mr. Robbins is hilarious! He is an incisive commentator as well. Not fancy but like his playing, what he says fits perfectly!
Joe: "Was it a difference in the silence?" (re Columbia-B). Now if THAT isn't a song or book title, what is??
John.... thanks for watching...Joe
...."I just can't call the guy Pig, man."
Hi Fuzzy.... that’s exactly what Bob Dylan said to Al Kooper while recording in Nashville with Pig....Best... Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum keep em coming Joe!
I knew a great drummer named "Gig" but he never had any.
