here's a pretty redundant blog post that you shouldn't visit: www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-pro/mapping/how-to-make-this-thematic-map-and-stuff/
I'm going to show this to our planning dept., they are the worst for trying to load one map with nearly every bit of detail. They think I'm bonkers, so need to hear another voice :). Only 1 month to go for the Scottish ESRI conference, looking forward to it this year, as always.
@@saintuk70 yeah, a multi-map layout can be great for planning layers! Have fun at the Scottish Conference! I’ve been twice and the visits were some of the best memories I have.
@@MrMinewarp thanks! Legends are baggage. If we can avoid them it’s worth a shot. Sometimes we need a conventional legend, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for alternative and simpler ways to key the map data
Hi John. Love your content. I teach in a uni course where we digitalize parks/green areas in cities using ESRI software and I would love to see some content from you or some general tips on how to make small-scale maps prettier and stand out because they get repetitive quite quickly. Keep up the good work!
thanks! yes, this is a good idea. i realize i don't do much with maps at this close scale and should do more of that. i appreciate your kind words and request! all the best in your course.
I found you through the Cartography MOOC (which I really enjoyed!) and everytime I watch your videos I'm just like "heck yeah" even though I don't make maps all that often
I have read some of your articles, one of them is on arcGIS blog about chernoff face map. I am curious about what tools you used to create the symbol in more detail. Do you have a video on how to create the chernoff face symbol? Thank you.
@@ManuelaScolastikaDhua I have not made a video about that but it’s an interesting idea. Chernoff faces are fun but I’ve found that they’re not very practical so there hasn’t been a lot of motivation for me to do a video about them. But I do like to make impractical videos, so I’ll think about it!
@@JohnNelsonMaps Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking for! A video on creating a multi-map layout would be really helpful, especially if it focuses on thematic maps like the one you’ve shown in this video. Thankyou
@@saintuk70 thanks! i've been considering something like this. since every map of the USA, even, typically has insets for Alaska and Hawaii. It would be good to have a multi-map layout video.

Love this. So clean and tells the story. Always like the multiple map frames to not overload everything.

Learnt a lot from this, amazing visual workplay.

Why the lefty is vertical?
because that monitor configuration rules! i use it for email and documents.
Could you create a complete tutorial on this? That would be more helpful.

@@saintuk70 no but I think I should make one
@@JohnNelsonMaps think that would be awesome. I get the jist of it, but it's the design flare and ideas you develop that really nail it.

FFS that is a map of great Britain NOT the UK
You are totally lacking in credibility to myself now
ah, good catch! thank you for your thoughtful correction! please disregard all advice.
