Hi Chef Zee! I'm Jamaican and what you guys call Bacalao we call saltfish and just a recommendation when my mom makes saltfish she just runs it under some cold water to get the salt off and then immediately boils it and switches that water once and that can take 30 minutes all together if you wanted to cut down on time sometimes she doesn't even switch the water but of course we're making something different🤗
Awesome!!! Thank you so much for sharing that tip. It kills me sometimes with how long it takes to get the salt out. When I rush, sometimes it's too salty but I never thought about switching out the water. Gotta try Mom's way!!!! #MommaKnowsBest lol
Courtney Walker I love me some ackee and saltfish! Soo yummy!
That's how I do it. Comes out great!
My mom taught me the same way _ funny this was our Sunday dish in PR for my dad with rooted vegetables and now I do it for my hubby on sundays handing down the tradition :)
Glad to see a Jamaican here sharing how it is done. Big up you self🇯🇲
I Love Bacalao Guisado with alot of Jugo/Gravy. My Abuela made it Differently though she added Okra, Potatoes, Onions and Chopped Garlic. It was like a Sauteed but I'll add Extra water SECRETLY when she's out the kitchen cause I like Gravy/Jugo!. She knew, she knew what El Chef Babe Liked! Lol
OMG!! This is awesome. My parents have both passed, but you've brought me back some great memories. This dish was one of my parents favorite!! Will be trying it!!
You're really good at cooking and since I'm not good at cooking, I'll just watch your videos if ever I want to cook something from your recipes.more videos to upload chef Godbless 🙏
yum, I can just smile that bacalao guisado with some white rice and avacodo. omg...........
Yesss!!!! My fave. Thanks for watching !
*Smell*
I’ll sometimes add sugar during the boiling process to help with salt removal, something I’ve learned from my mother.
This is an awesome tip! I definitely have to try it . Thanks for sharing 😊
The way my mom show me is boiling water with the bacalo then throw away the water twice. But I'm going to try this way or and another way is leave the bacalo overnight in water
Yummy this look delicious I can't wait to cook this thank you for delicious recipe God bless happy New Years
I will try it today thanks
I do vinager..
I'm neither Hispanic nor Jamaican and i make this dish all the time! I boil the bacalao thoroughly until the salt is gone. I use the same ingredients in your recipe including potatoes but i also add greens to mine and stewed or diced tomatoes and white rice on the side.! Definitely a game changer 😋🤤
So where are you from?
Thank you girl! You have a new subscriber ☺ I have the day off Monday and wanted to make something different than my usual. My manservant half Dominican and I think he's gonna appreciate this ❤
I just recently found your channel by chance when I searched Dominican Tres Leche Cake and can I see, it’s like finding a gold mine. I LOVE LOVE your channel and can’t wait to try your recipes. Food looks AMAZING!! Much success to you. 💪🏼🇩🇴
I made it today and i just fell in love... so much flavor and smells so good. Even made white rice on the side. I gotta made a bigger batch next time 😁😁
Chef Zee, you’re the BOMB! Funny thing is, I HATED this dish as a kid and now it’s the number ONE dish I request whenever I go home to see my mom! Keep up the great work!
Derick Nieves I was the same hated this dish as a kid now I’m in love with it 😋
Luis Martinez Jr isn’t it funny how kids have NO idea the effort our parents put in to taking care of us! But it builds a foundation for us to grow from. And that’s why I have mad love for Chef Z and others that share their passion for cooking! Buen Provecho!
Thank you so much. I was also like you. When I was super young, I didn't care for it and then over time I acquired the taste. I was still the youngest of my cousins to actually enjoy this dish lol
Chef Zee!!! I had to revisit your recipe once again as I finally found some in my new city. Question, I noticed you mentioned it in your ingredients but didn’t see you use the sopita or did I miss you adding it?
I made this today. It turned out really well. Thanks for sharing this video.
This Bronx-bred Sister is so excited to have made this dish! It’s delicious and tastes just like what I grew up eating!
Let's go BX 😆 I'm making this on Monday
My mom makes it exactly like that. I love it with Moro🤤
Finally I can make it myself! I accidentally stumbled upon this meal and have never forgotten it. Actually after work on Fridays I visit this specific restaurant, and today it just occurred to me look for the recipe on RUclips. Now I can make it for my friends to enjoy!
Do I have to use olive oil? I don’t really like it.
Yay!!! This is amazing. So happy that you like.
@Fausta Uwague: You can use any oil you like, I use canola and corn oil and anyway it comes out delicious or if you don't like oil at all don't add it, as I said it comes out delicious anyway. 😊
Thanks for the recipe. I’m gonna make it today. It looks yummy.❤😊
Her voice is so mesmerizing!
Thank you!
@@Chefzeecooks Anytime! Hey Zee, make a video on shrimp Alfredo!
I love your bacalao. I followed your instructions twice. Once before, and again today. It came out so tasting, delicious and beautiful looking. .Just like the one on your this video. Thank you, so much. I will definitely be supporting your cooking channel. Your videos are awesome.
Thank you!!! So happy that you liked. I love this dish!
Looks delicious, and good tip about simmering the cinnamon and such during the cooking. It's good to keep the food smells that linger to a minimum.
In the Philippines we also have Bacalao Guisado. Bacalao Guisado Caviteño, from the province of Cavite. We fry our patatas, and we add garbanzos, repollo and achiote (achuete in Philippines).
Preciosa muy buen detalle de cómo hacer el bacalao dominicano
Wow...its like a chabacano bacalao..delicious...
I would love to see more fish recipes. I’m sure you have a fantastic red snapper or sea bass dishes.
Can't wait to make this. I used to have this for lunch almost errrrday in Trenton, NJ when La Cocina Creolé was still in business.

I love your recipes.. I’m a bacalao fish lover since now.
My grandma used to cook this dish, it was one of my favorites...
Im from Cavite Phillipines this exactly what we cooked during lenten season but the difference is in the Philippines we dont have cod fish instead we used surgeon fish as an alternative. the preparation and Ingredients are also the same but we dont use too much herbs. Cooking Bacalao is part of our tradition

Thank you so much for sharing your recipe my family loved it 😊😋🍽️
This tastes amazing thanks for this recipe
You're welcome. So happy that you liked 💕
Just made this without the fish and it was amazing. Thanks for posting this video.
I used 1 cup of water from the pot boiling the potatoes. I feel the startch in the water helps thicken the sauce.
Question. Is there a good reason for using the salted fish as opposed to just using fresh cod? Seems it would save some work.
This was delicious - thank you Chef Zee!
I boil my bacalao in hot water twice salt all gone I keep a cup of the salty water just in case! Yummy
Hola, hice el bacalao este fin de semana santa y nunca me quedo tan rico , como lo hice esta vez de la misma forma que usted. Gracias desde nuestra República Dominicana con cariño.🤗

Yummmy Bacalao.
I LOVE YOU CHEF ZEE!!!! LOL 😍😍😘😘
Thank you!!!!
ouuuuu trying this today ☺️😂
Chef Zee I'm hoping you can make locrio de arenke!!!
@chef zee can the salted bacalao be replaced by the actual cod fish and just use all the ingredients that goes into bacalao?
Can this be done with fresh/unsalted cod fish? If so, what changes do you recommend?
You definitely, just season accordingly. It will actually taste amazing with fresh cod! I do that all of the time.
@@Chefzeecooks Thanks!
No se por que pero creo que te amo
Between bacalao, goat, pernil and oxtails so hard to even attempt. But the bacalao dish I grew up more was the bacalao cold salad- bacalao, white/red onion, ‘uyama’ I think, potatoes and boiled eggs... am I the only one who like this or heard of this dish?? They do not make this in some nyc Dominican restaurants.
I know exactly what you’re talking about. I make that everyone once in a blue moon. My mother use to make it the same way.
Thx Chef!
I can smell it through the screen
Looking forward to trying this as you do it. But wondering can i try it with frozen ones?
Yummy great video
Chef, I love you!
hey chef zee just curious right if I wanted to make this but like I'm super busy and I can't do the 15 minutes thing about how many hours do u think I should let it soak in water ?
You are beautiful and I love your recipes 😌💜
Thank you so much 🥳
Looks yummy!!
Thank you. Husband said it was really good.🎉😊 I didn’t add adobo.
Chef would I be able to make this same sauce for regular fish fillets? Or do I have to ask you to show us how to make steamed fish lol. I’m trying to cook more fish, help!
