I don't think O'Dimm "HAS" to abide by the rules of the game, he CHOOSES to play by the rules because otherwise it is no fun. He is so overpowered compared to mortals that simply destroying them brings little joy (he killed the man with a spoon and didn't play a game, simply swatting away a fly) because he KNOWS he can always win, therefore he makes rules so that mortals have the potential to win, even if it is implausible.

Yes, so powerful that he was the only one able to absorb and neutralize fully uncontroled and devastating Ciri's power, even in his weakest form. He was the only one who opened e real gate between worlds (only the most powerfuls can do that). He fought all the wild hunt alone several times, Eredin, Caranthir and Imlerith with their soldiers to let Ciri flee and the fact that he fell to a very powerful and ancien curse doesn't remove anything from his power. Still even being cursed he continued to be only focused on Ciri's safety, because himself knew how to remove the curse as he helped Yennefer with the correct spell finishing to remove the curse. He's an Aen Saeverne as Ida Emean and Ida also is very powerful (the most powerful of the lodge, even Francesca treats her with a very great deal of respect), being the one who said to Yennefer how to undo that curse.

Avalach and Ciri are only stronger than Geralt in potential power output. Yennefer's spells are much more potent than Geralt's signs yet she admitted she cannot defeat him in a straight fight because of his reflexes and Quen shield and was forced to trick him and set up a trap for him when his guard was down when they first met. Avalach is not much stronger than the generals of the wild hunt and is probably weaker that Eredin all of whom Geralt defeated.
Ciri can teleport short distances a bit better than the Wild Hunt Generals but that alone won't give her the win against Geralt who counters teleportation with his speed, reflexes and Quen. She even admitted to being weaker than him when they fought the Crones and Imlirith.
A strongman is stronger than a heavyweight boxer but that doesn't mean he will win in a fight. This is no different.

    • @vollblutingo9189

You're completely right. I don't see how Geralt couldn't be above Avallach and Ciri in this list.
Additionally, it may doesn't feel right, but I think Detlaff could beat Ciri with her "current" amount of experience at the end of the story and Avallachs magical power maybe is a little bit overrated overall.
One thing that maybe is just a joke/Easteregg that could be ignored is the fact that ciri talked about Avallach and Ciri Travelling to 'our' modern world. Imagine them coming back with modern weapons like a sniper or a machine gun.
Or even a fucking bomb. That would even be dangerous for a time manipulating Gaunter O'Dim in terms of the range of it's destruction potential. (stopping the time forever would be the only solution if it's coming out of nowhere and I don't think that would be the solution for him)
But I'm sure this travelling even to our world would be a completely lore breaking thing. Avallach and Ciri could break the whole game lol xD

In a straight up 1v1 with no preparations:
1.O'Dimm (cause he can literally just stop time, summon a storm , make you trip over and break your neck , trap you in a picket dimension filled with shaded and mosnters etc all with minimal effort)
2.The Unseen Elder (literally can kill Geralt before he could even react or defend himself and is so powerfull even the likes of Detlaff and Regis are scared shitless of him)
3.Geralt ( his arsenal and skills make him one of the most versatile individuals in the series, not to mention he's beaten other witchers, sorceresses and Detlaff, albeit barely)
4.Ciri ( although she hasn't mastered her powers, thus we never see her maximum , but the fact that she was trained by effectively 4 different Witchers along with her ability to teleport and dash at superhuman speed she is definetly one of the most powerful beings in the series, but she would still lose to Geralt in a 1v1, she admits it herself)
    5. Eredin (I feel like the King of the Wild Hunt doesn't get enough credit. The guy held his own against Geralt and has been shown to insanely durable, resisting Ciri's power when everyone else was being killed by it. We also have the fact that he's lived for a VERY long time and thus has even more experience in combat than even Geralt. Add his magic om top of that and you have one hell of an opponent)

@Johan Liebert Ciri outmtached Caranthir in every way. He only "won" because Ciri aimed for, and broke his staff which sent a shockwave that knocked her out. Replace that magical staff with any other weapon, and as Ciri proved, he is far inferior to her as a fighter. Now if Ciri is a bteeter fighter than him, which she proved, Geralt would eat him just like his king Eredin. He never shat on Geralt before that. And he only nearly Killed Geralt because for some reason Geralt stabbed him in the chest, leaving it there for about 3/4 seconds, twisting it, when he could have easily taken slit his throat just like he did with Eredin.

@@nadiahaji9808 Ciri is more powerful in terms of potential than anyone except from The Unseen Elder and G.O.D. That being said, Caranthir defeated her. He was the one that ran to his staff (source of his magic) to get in contact with Ciri to knock her out. And, they wanted her alive. That's why they tried to grab her all the time instead of burning her head with energy blasts. Obviously he isn't superior to Ciri without the stuff. That's like saying Geralt isn't superior to a certain monster without his swords. And Caranthir was veery close to defeating geralt without his staff. With the staff he would've demolished him. He froze an entire army easily, summoned the white frost giving both him and keira a lot of trouble, froze them all in kaer morhen (could have killed them), bested Eskel with barely any magic, bested Ciri and was the only that appeared conscious and focused when Ciri was screaming during the events of Kaer Morhen, saving Eredin.

Geralt has a solid chance against any mage; we've seen this in both the books and games. They may have more raw magical power, but his speed and reflexes paired with his protective signs give him an edge. Even Yen and Ciri both said they couldn't beat him in a straight up fight.
The Unseen Elder definitely would be a problem for Geralt and I don't know if he could beat him. In fact, any higher vampire is an issue for Geralt. In the 3rd book when they first discover what Regis is, Dandelion asks Geralt if he could beat him if it came to it. Geralt says he truly doesn't know if he could win; you should have included Regis haha.
Regarding Gaunter, yeah he's truly on another level. Geralt did manage to out smart him at his own game, but only because he allowed it. Gaunter can literally control time and a lot of other things. He plays games simply because it amuses him, and puts in rules, because without rules, there wouldn't be any challenge for him

Him defeating Detlaff and Eredin on his own is evident of that, and that he’s clever enough to outsmart Gaunter at his own game. The only creature he probably couldn’t defeat is the unseen elder. I think the Crones probably were once on that list of top five most powerful beings, but somewhere along the way they diminished as they bled the land white for immediate gratification. Velen's clearly a war torn land, but there's evidence that it's been in steep decline long before the war ever happened just based on what comments are made about the place by NPCs and the number of long crumbled ruins that could not be recent war related.

    The Actual List.
    1) Gaunter O'Dimm - Control's time.
    2) Unseen Elder - Far More Powerful than Geralt.
    3) Geralt - Literally beaten nearly everyone below him in this list.
    4) Detlaff - As Geralt said, he cannot be killed, only beaten.
    5) Eredin - King of the Wild Hunt. Using that logic, probably most skilled/dangerous.

@@jonts7 Ciri is potentially number 2/3. But cant control her powers. She will get killed in a 1 on 1 fight. That's why Geralt didn't want her fighting Imelrith, and he even said to her that she wasn't as good of a fighter as him. So no, she is definitely not 3. As for Dettlaf being number 4, he is a higher vampire, cannot be killed. Only those with incredible training can beat them. Geralt wasn't even confident he could beat him, yet beating everyone else before him he had no problem.

I'm not claiming that Geralt is one of the most powerful characters in the Witcherverse, but I am saying that he has the potential to be the most powerful witcher in history. Since witchers gain their limited magical abilities via mutations - along with other advantages, such as enhanced sense - and since Geralt is referred to as having a unique reaction to the Trial of the Grasses, allowing him to absorb a greater degree of these mutation-based magical abilities. Add to that the unique enhancements he acquired in the Blood & Wine DLC (and which only he could survive acquiring), and he's a mutant among mutants. Skills can be acquired, potential can't be.

@Johan Liebert triss is not naive, she seems more childish especially for her age of 40 I believe, but that s it, she organized and tried to help the mages of novigrad for months, she miss steped once and that was after reuniting with geralt a(and if you played witcher 2 you d know that this was pretty significant) after a pretty rough break up so she didnt paid attention and let her guard down. Cant really say anything abou skellige tho, they are based on vikings and those guys werent the brightest so of course the majority of them are idiots, but thats mostly cause they are uncultured dumbasses .
Either way compared to: oooooo, lets bully the most powerful morthal into doing my job and treat him like shit, force him to kill a good ally (delphine), or stab him in the back(astrid), or let s not realise that destabilizing my own country when talmor and empire tensions get worse each day seems like a good idea ulfric.

    • @akatosh5792

@Johan Liebert the dijkstra thing i feel like it s mostly a gameplay thing, in previous game an entire nilfgaardian camp is like 10 dudes and geralt still beat them so yeah, also you shouldnt look at combat sections when thinking about stuff like that, I mean the skyrim civil war were like, 5 people in an army, it s most likely an attemt to not overwhelm the player with 50 enemies and to not make their computers burst into flames, roach is mostly blind to that since he s desperate and would take anything, he s leading like 100 man vs an empire , his king was assasinated 6 months ago, his troops are few and get even smaller by the day and while guerrila warfare is efficient you cant use that on nilfgaard, they are so huge it doeant matter so his hopes were probably that temeria would get independence even temporary and that he s gonna work out from therw.

    • @akatosh5792

@Johan Liebert what i m trying to say is that even if their actions seem idiotic if you take into account the backgrounds it makes much more sense, in skyrim if you take them into consideration is much worse, delphines orders come from a long and dead faction that fought someone , astrids db was going downhill than the dragonborn and cicero come, they get that shit running but she s butthurt caise she d get replaced ,at least ulfrics is slightly understandable with him hating the talmor and having this dumb idea that the empire are hand in hand with them.

I believe Gaunter O'Dimm is simply unstoppable and the only way to stop him is if he gets bored enough to limit himself. That riddle Geralt solved doesn't do anything, it's Gaunters' respect for his own rules that drives him away.
The pentagram that was supposed to keep him away in the Oxenfurt academy, he made it up to toy with the poor guy. He drew it himself, clearly enjoying himself condemning a man to a few feet of living space for the rest of his life until he saw fit to end it. Showing Geralt that you either play and win by his rules or not at all.

I think Geralt would easily solo Avalac'h or Ciri in the game, Ciri needs like 10 sword hits on Geralt while he would oneshot her. In game Geralt could whoop the butt of entire Nilfgaard overtime and kill Emhyr imo - long process but doable (When he tells me sometimes that he can call the guards, I sometimes tell him IRL "Go ahead, try, I will gladly demonstrate you that I have power to whipe out entire Vizima if need be". So, Geralt is imo more powerful in game than the first 3.
Unseen Elder is killable but I think Geralt is not fast enough and would get owned like he does if you give him wrong questions and dialogue.
Gaunter O'dimm is in league of his own really. I doubt hes even restricted by the contracts because he could curse the woman in B&W out of contract, could stop time and kill the guy who interrupted him with the spood out of contract. For me he uses the contract to give people hope of winning only win beat them in word play AND see them know that it is them who caused it + wants the opponent know that they lost fair and square because annihilating (vaporizing) Geralt while he cannot even see him wouldnt be fun at all. He just loves suffering, hard choices, seeing people realize that they have no good option and the emotions of them choosing the lesser evil (or trying to even find the lesser evil) - from that comes his love of contracts but he seems to not be bound by them because of ability restrictions BUT because of his personal limitations (he essentially does SL1 Dark souls run to have at least some challenge and enjoy the world because he's too powerful for normal humans to bear in a fight)

Interesting how Eredin, the antagonist of the base game, is nowhere to be found.

I think when Ciri truly masters her powers she will be. But until that happens its gotta be O'dimm. Of course, in the actual game the protag is always the most powerful.

I doubt that there is anyone more powerful than Ciri except for O'Dimm. Which might not be true at all. She is the lady of time and space. The ancient powers she posseses are feared by literally everyone. Even Avallac'h claims that unless she learns how to control them, she is the greatest threat not only to her world, but also to all other worls, being able to completely destroy them. If there is a being with the abilitis to maybe defeat O'Dimm, whatever that means, it's her.

O'Dimm also controls time and space as seen during the plot. As well as being older than time itself. Although I don't know if he can go between dimensions like Ciri can or stop the white frost like she did.

I think Radovid is more of a tactical genius tham Emphyr is, if he isn't assasinated he wins the war against him.
