Idk a whole lot about metal genres, but for some reason "at the gates" doesn't sound melodic to me at all. They're classified as melodic death metal, and I love that genre but this band sounds a little less melodic and heavier than let's say, soilwork or in flames
It doesn't sound very complex to me. Seem quite simple and straightforward. A solid melody and groove that they sit on the whole time. Great writing. They deserved another grammy.

@@cliftonjames785 it was 1995. Compare the melodies of other bands from 95 or before in death metal. Outside of a few, yes this is very melodic.
