I don't travel much at all. But I am still eagerly looking forward to the day when I am told "Get on the plane.", just so I can reply, "F*CK YOU, I'M getting IN the plane!" A great Carlin bit! (but to be fair, pretty much ALL his comedy bits are GREAT ones!)
I believe George would point out that he's 1 in _7+ billion_ - unless of course there's TWO of him walking around somewhere, begging the inevitable conversation with his parents. He'd demand an explanation.
I think it's more because people weren't taught that they must be offended. They needed to really drill that down in order to produce the outrage. Naturally, but of course............
@@JimDandy69 I agree. We had shows on tv and music, like Married With Children, Sanford And Son, we were never offended. This generation is just weird. They get offended by the wind blowing.
No kidding. I’m on the wrong side of 50 and when a few of my old friends get together for some drinks we are so hard on one another. It’s way more fun that way. If you can handle it.
I’m so blessed that I had the opportunity to see this comedy genius live and in person. It was amazing. His sense of humor and perspective is needed now and missed. RIP❤
He's my favorite comic just ahead of Robin Williams. I saw him 4 times twice here in Seattle and twice in Vegas each show was great. I'd love to hear what he would have said about the last 6 or 7 years.
It truly was genius. And you see....that was the genius of George, he voiced what most of us think. He brought it into the open and made it okay to think and say it. He was brilliant. I truly hope you watch all of his stuff....it's amazing!! Thanks for playing this one.
As someone who grew up learning from the Master Manipulator of the English Language and a "uniformed crew member" for almost 20 years in my past, all of his airline routines always had me rolling on the floor laughing, literally! Being on the "inside" made his jokes even funnier! I truly wish he was still with us so I could hear what he'd have to say today!
This was how George started his Jammin in New York special and it marked the start of the final phase of his career. It was a period of some of his best writing and performance and solidified him as among the best comedians of all time. I can't tell you how many times I listened to this in my first car laughing my ass off.
This is one of my favorite bits of all time. I watched all of his HBO specials and rewatched them endlessly. There were times where I almost lost consciousness laughing so hard. A true legendary man.
A phrase that always gets me: "Exchanged gunfire". "Police exchanged gunfire with an armed gang today" Oh, how nice! Sounds so... polite. pew pew pew "Okay, your turn!" And why would anybody want to exchange gunfire? If I'm in a situation where I have to give gunfire, I do not want to recieve any gunfire in exchange. pew pew pew "You just keep that, I don't need any, thank you!" pew pew pew "Oh, gunfire! Somebody has sent me gunfire! I guess it would be rude of me not to send them some back." Just say "Shot at each other".
I saw him from a front row seat at the Mill Run Theater in 1982, I believe. He was doing material that would wind up on the Carlin At Carnegie special, one of the best ones he ever did. And it was like a comeback special, because he'd just had his second heart attack. Hard to believe he just kept going and going and GOING.....anyway, find the Carnegie show, and watch the whole thing, even the goofy intro he does on the street. HBO did that with a lot of their On Location shows.
I hate flying TOO, I am TERRIFIED of it, especially after 9/11. Last time I flew was back in '93. Now with all the unruly passengers, cancellations, etc, it is a LOT more complicated than it was back in '93 and in '84 (the PREVIOUS to last time I flew). THIS has ALWAYS been my FAVORITE George Carlin routine. My cousin was a commercial airline pilot and he was also married to a "stewardess" as they were called back then. I WISH they could have SEEN this, I know my cousin would have laugher because he had a GREAT sense of humor. LOVED your reaction Jamal and that you finally watched THIS one!
Yes Jamel, he was a genius at manipulating the English language and creating so much laughter and thought and more. Those tears come honestly just like the rest of us. 👍👍
This is one of my all time favorite pieces of material from him. This one and “sports” from his “playing with your head” show. You gotta do that one! You’re awesome my dude!
George seemed to be that one standup comedian that always had 1 main reason for his comedy: to make people think. And his jibbery jabbery speed way of talking, makes it all more comedic,as the punchlines comes in faster then usual lol.
Jamel I wanted you to review this a couple years ago anytime I fly somewhere I always think of this routine by George Carlin as soon as the announcements start I start laughing
Thank you brother for the video I miss your videos man I wish you played some more Cortland and some more music videos again thank you it was good to see you laugh again😊😊
Many years ago (50+) I saw someone in concert who did a bit about airlines having invented a new language. "Third Person Removed." "They SAY they'd like to welcome you to Chicago. But they NEVER DO."
Just thought I would give you a little shout out. I live up here in Seattle and KISW the Rock radio station was interviewing Stone Gossard from Pearl Jam. Gave you a shout out to Stone about your reaction to the live performance of Black. MTV. Just thought you would love to here your being spoken about in a good way up here in Seattle..😊
I highly recommend "Carlin on Campus"! Some notable parts are "Driving", "Baseball and Football", and "Place for my Stuff" If you like George Carlin, it's a must see! He's an amazing comedian, and you might not think it from listening to him, but he was also a really nice guy.
this was the meat and potatoes of GenX. George Carlin, Andrew Dice Clay, Richard Pryor. it taught us to have a spine and not be afraid to laugh at ourselves.
I hadn't flown in years, and the previous-to-last time I did was in the mid-2000s (either 2004 or 2005 - I remember only that it was during the summer and that I was in high school at the time). I did not fly again until 2019, and I made the mistake of listening to the special this was from. Why do I call it a mistake? Because that flight was not only my first in years, but it was also going to be my first international flight, and it was a 16-hour flight with no additional stops, going from Houston, Texas to Auckland, New Zealand. This bit is _not_ something you want bouncing around in your head when you're 35,000 feet in the air for functionally a whole day, and it was made even worse because the whole time, my brain automatically swapped out certain terms and phrases, such as "float around the North Atlantic for several days" for " float around the South Pacific for several weeks." I was very hard-pressed to keep myself distracted, as any break immediately brought my mind back to this bit, which did my mental health no favors. Obviously, the flight went well, and there were no issues at all, but I vowed to not fly again if I could help it. Granted, I would feel safer flying than sailing (as long as I never fly an American airline, that is), but still.
Welcome to the past... George Carlin literally rewrote comedy...'7 dirty words"... cool beans from the Old dawg co. Keep it real, bro 😎💥🎶🎶👆. Feed your mind...b cool!!!
The youtube rabbit hole sent me to your reaction to Bonnie Raitt's I can't make you love me so I watched it over (seeing her again in June here in U.K) where you said often people send you what they want to hear rather than what you should watch. Here's a cover you really should take a look at - Rollin' in the deep covered by Shoshana Bean. I'm no way an Adele fan but this girl blows it away, live performance on a little club stage with just two backing singers and hardly any music in there. Her high notes are unbelievable. Shoshana Bean is well up the list of my all time best singers by the way.
U gotta love the late great George Carlin..U know he wouldve had a field day wth the Covid pandemic...Hav U viewd or listend to singing comedian Stephen Lynch yet ? He is actually a prety dcent singer..But sings the dirtiest songs U could think of..Please giv “Tattoo”..”Lullaby”..”Gerbil”..”No Meat” & “Special Ed” to name a few..U will laugh ALOT 😂

George Carlin was doing his bits about airplanes back in the '70's. Check out his routines on some of his albums and you'll see what I mean. One of his best is on "Toledo Windowbox."
@0:44 Well, there is the problem right away. You're getting on the plane, and I choose to get "in the plane." Let Evel Knievel get on the plane, and I will be in the plane with the folks in uniform.

The FAA actually changed the term from "near miss" to "near hit" because of this bit
this is why my generation is not easily offended. grew up with him
