- Countering the Winter blues in style, the Great Central Railway held their annual 'Winter Steam Gala' over the weekend of Friday 25th - Sunday 27th of January, providing a festival of steam with nine locomotives in steam, as well as the resident Class 101 DMU providing supporting services.
The Gala saw members of the GCR's home-fleet joined by 7802 "Bradley Manor", visiting from the Severn Valley Railway for the event. Throughout the event, a variety of services were demonstrated along the line, including double-headed running, freight trains, and the GCR's famous TPO (Travelling Post Office) demonstration runs. The TPO performed two demonstration runs over the course of the day, in the hands of a different locomotive each time.
Locomotives:
Ex-GWR 7800 'Manor' Class - 7802 "Bradley Manor"
BR(W) 6959 'Modified Hall' Class - 6990 "Witherslack Hall"
BR Standard Class 5MT - 73156
Ex-LMS 3F 'Jinty' Class Tank - 47406

All footage filmed on Saturday the 26th of January 2019.
Fascinating seeing the post bags hanging off the side of the train waiting to be collected in the trackside nets. You can see them drop down at 18:04, and there is also a bag hanging up ready to be collected by the train as it passes.
Hats off to the GCR for an impressive gala and to you for an excellent record of it... great variety of angles and locations providing consistent interest. Judging by the number of head-filled windows, this oasis of steam in a seasonal desert of inactivity was very well supported, not just by the lineside. Clever TPO filming. Thanks for sharing, Bob K.
9:04 nice shot with the jinty and the northern 319 in the back!
Thanks.
Was not too happy with that shot, but it was necessary given the position for the following two shots.
Lovely action shots Mr. Southerner. Your quality is consistent , I always look forward to one of your gala vids ! Thanks.
Excellent mate especially seeing the steam locomotives running on the great central railway particularly for 7802 Bradley manor making his first ever visit here
Some great steam effects bursting under the bridge at the start there!
Another Quality video well done !

I like it a lot
Thanks
Very good video, thumbs up :)
Great video!
Thanks
10:30 - Good to see the LMS 4-6-0 (a Scott?) making full use of the 40mph speed limit for a change.
Black 5
Ah - saw the name plate and it threw me!
Black 5
Whats the top speed limit for the gcr? Being as theres long stretches in oarts
I really enjoyed your video although i am somewhat perplexed as at least some of the shots appear to have been taken from the line side and of course the GCR has cancelled line side passes!!!!!!!
Thank you. I can assure you, that was not the case. There are some locations where it can appear deceptive owing to how close the fence allows members of the public to be to the running lines. However, no trespass was committed in making this video.
4:00 is it really necessary for modern cameras to make that clicking noise? I'm sure it's not really necessary, and it must get very irritating
Yes it’s quite normal. There’s always a lot of clicking in Mach Loop videos, and their cameras cost silly money.
