Isn't there just , and I'd must be great for father and uncle Phil knowing the farms in good hands for a generation to come yet , great team so they are
a great reminder just how difficult farming is, so much heartbreak. and so much resilence. So much left to the weather, and all the hard work in the world cannot change things at times. You have a wonderful strong family. Bless you all.
3 great men ! Fair play they kept coming back better and stronger after t.b each time , must rip your heart out seein the herd destroyed , but can't keep a good man down , and use have a great future ahead with such spirit and determination , team Phil !! 👌👌
Great to see you and our father and uncle. You obviously have a great realantship with each other. Unlike one lonely farmer always running down his sons.
These history videos are a great idea and will stand the test of time and will be there when the older generation are gone. Way better than the 10 a penny drone ag videos all over RUclips.
Great to see the old guard participating in the RUclips era. Fascinating insight into the history of your family farm. I bet Uncle Phil could tell a tale or two 😂😍👍
The bond between you guys is very obvious. So nice to see the connection between you and your dad and then your uncle on the edge of the connection. Very cool. Knowledgeable men!
My dad milked cows up until the 70s. He had a dexta. He used to run the dairy vacuum pump off the pto if there was a power outage to allow him to keep milking. He used ten gallon cans too. Sometimes he had to chase the milk truck on the dexta (with the cans) if he was running late.
Great bit of farming history there Phil. I know exactly what the lads are talking about, 10 gallon and 20 gallon milk churns and coolers. We used to stand the churns in half an old tar barrel with cold water running into the barrel and cooling the churn from the outside. And milking the cows by hand. Hardship!
Some head on ya now Phil ya boy ya 😂 Good chat good thinking , great to hear of the hardship them boys are tough , good to see your uncle there looking lively and on form 👍🏻
Look forward to watching nice to see your Uncle any chance were going to see your brother we like him to think he’s doing a good job with things when he shows his face .We thought last nights was very thought provoking nearly had us in tears 😭.Still love the video thank you all .That bloody B word we never voted for it by the way we’re all upset by it . We can just hopefully things to get better .All for now .🌃🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
Great video Phil, I'd missed the dinner table chats. Jaysus ye had a rough time of it with the TB so in 04 and onwards, a credit to ye to even go back into cattle. TB wiped out the cattle on my Grandfather and uncle in mid 80's and it ended up sinking the farm a decade later as they hadn't modernised the tillage enough to keep up. Ye are a credit to the industry to lay it bare like that 👏
That was so nostalgic for me. MY Grandfather had a 2 unit Alfa laval milking unit and milked 26 cows. I still have one of those buckets today. I was there when we went from churns to bulk tank. Just like these fellas I recall it like yesterday and often chat to my sister about these times. Thank you for putting this video up. Keep your family safe and best wishes from 🏴
Love this. I love to hear about the old ways. My father died when I was twenty so never got to really sit and have a chat with him. Plz do more. Fantastic
Great chat lads, no fear of the two boys getting lime dust in their hair 😁. The Tb discussion will be still there for you to talk to your children and grandchildren the way it’s going unfortunately.
Ayup Phil really interesting video and always a good insight I liked how your dad added the extra info to you every time after your uncle finished talking. Reminds me of my father, i have said it before but I always think you are/have a good family 👍🏻
Jesus ye had it hard with TB curse of yoke..love listening to them story's use to love going to pub listening to the old timers telling me their story's and they loved talking about it too..most them past on now God rest them..it was hard life back in the days
That's true everything back then was fords and pigs lol.My father told me there was the army all patrolling the farm we lost all 80 of our pigs and our cows (not sure how many).Good video 👍best ytber going.
The many trials and tribulations of trying to stay in the game and become a fantastic success in the world of farming eh Phil!!!! All I can say is that you have some mentors in dad and the uncle (who is looking fekn fab thank god !!!!!) What does not kill us makes us stronger wa….!! Fond memories of the plate coolers of old and the washing board ones too but not so fond are the memories of the cold water in the pit washing udders twice a day and the cracks in the hands stinging afterwards if ya got a bit a caustic water on em when changing the milk sock for the following morning...... fecks sake they were the best days of my life and I would do it all over again if my back would let me !!! Stay safe folks !!
Farmer Phil, Father Phil and Uncle Phil, I really enjoyed that table talk and like others that have viewed this cant wait for the next one. I would love to know how many people it took to milk the 16/18 cows by hand. Credit to you all for hanging in there with all the set backs. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you all.
Fair play that they stuck with farming after all that , you see some people get very unlucky with TB but to lose that many over that short period is insane, in part two could they say how or why it was so bad around there?
This was such an interesting video, can't wait for the next one. It brought back memories for me of the milk churns having to learn to roll them out to the wooden milk stand on the road and be dared not to tip them too much. I don't remember hand milking, but I do remember Dad had a portable Milk Parlour, mostly it was on a concrete base at the farm but if the cows were a fair way from the farm he used to take the milking parlour out to the field and leave it there to do the milking.
That's terrible luck after building up such a good pedigree herd of cows. It must have been so hard for ur uncle many lads wud have walked away. U's said get back into it. 50 cows was a serious big herd that time
Started milking cows in 1977 got cleaned out with TB in the eighties left me just about broke gave away farming in 1990 emigrated to Australia. It makes me sad to see hard working farmers still losing their livelihoods to TB it has become an industry, but not one that the farmer prospers from. I enjoy your videos reminds me of my youth
Tough men to keep going after being wiped out with brucellosis and tb multiple times, plenty of fellas would of turned their backs on it and fecked off somewhere else
What was the bottom line on the TB was it the breed of cows did not suit I would imagine you have a lot more stock now a days how is the Tb now on the farm
If a cow gets TB it is killed and (incinerated I think) to prevent further spread of the disease, if there was TB on the farm now then there would be constant tests for months afterwards and plenty of animals gone to waste, problem with the TB test is that it only tests for if they have come in contact with the virus
Hi I understand the Tb the cows go to be slaughtered sometimes the Tb don’t show up but the point I’m making is the milking herd was taking out because of TB when the stoped milking the went to suckler herd TB is still a problem but the have a lot more stock on the farm now the can’t have the same losses to TB what changed to cause this
Well Philip love that video short but I have to say u father and uncle are some characters I say lol would yea ever think of head back to milk especially when Libby is instered be a better be than beef would it ...???
Just like every irish family. You won't get information out of one on his own, but put them together and the competition kicks in! Who knows more!
There's a serious bond among ye all there that us only get in the farm life. Love the Q&A and the table talk videos. Keep it up.
Isn't there just , and I'd must be great for father and uncle Phil knowing the farms in good hands for a generation to come yet , great team so they are
I really enjoyed that, I'd say those men do have great stories about years ago, Can't wait for part 2 very interesting,
