I still don’t know why Astel is so good at FPS. Apparently he didn’t have experience playing them before Apex, but every single one he’s touched since then he’s unbelievably good at.

I mean they made a sub branch specifically for it. So most likely yes. Don't know for how long since the viewership is really low compared to other events like this which is understandable hololive regular viewers aren't that much into fps and fps viewers prefer watching really high level players
@@venkaramon Amateur matches can be big. Vsaikyou was getting higher vieweship than many pro APEX tournaments and the last CR Street fighter show match Korone was in was also getting crazy numbers despite it being mostly amateurs. I think it speaks more that Holopro is still breaking into this space, and the fact that this was a COVER only effort rather than a cross company vtuber tournament

@@venkaramon they can also involve other vtubers, either independent or from other agencies. But for Hololive itself, it really depends on the talents, Towa and Botan are known FPS players and their fans will be more than happy to watch these, while Irys, Chloe and Lui may play from time to time (very rarely). Other than those, quite a few hololive girls are well-versed in FPS like Matsuri, Laplus, Choco, Shion and Ayame too

Astel is a total BEAST. I've been watching his POV as well. He almost wiped out the entire Hololive Team all by himself (actually did once), several times. While I am pretty sad seeing my favorite Hololive Girls got wrecked, ngl it was satisfying watching him making those kill streaks 😅

I saw from Astel’s pov and it seems like Chloe is kinda cracked at using tracer
She has mechanical instinct and knows how to prowl for surprise flanks. Now she needs to refine that and practice comms to integrate that skill into concerted efforts like pushes. She'd allow Towa and Botan to gain a lot of ground if she sprung into action consistently either as a diversion or as a "cavalry charge" to mop up enemies pushed out of position.
Botan and Towa are expected to be good at fps games but Chloe was a surprise.

I don't watch that many FPS streams, so most of what I know has been from clips, that Towa and Astel are crack Apex players and that Botan used to be a pro gamer, so I was thinking it would maybe sway towards Hololive's favor here, but Stars kinda swept it. Grats Stars, gg Hololive! Hope to see more stuff like this in the future.
Towa and Botan played healer and tank, while important roles you really need the DPS to do damage and get picks. Botan had the most damage (of her team, about as much as both dps combined) done in all matches as tank. Sakamata, Irys and Lui are all pretty new to FPS games in general. I think if Towa had played dps instead they would have put up more of a fight. Not sure how Botan does in a game like this where the time to kill is higher than say CoD or Rainbow 6 (i believe R6 is what botan played professionally) but would probably also do better in the DPS spot.
The holostars team just seemed more used to playing the game especially Astel.
Was still fun to watch, hope they have more coming.

Honestly this was a somewhat random bunch of pretty damn good players led by one regular tournament player, and one long retired badass.

A tight knit group of tournament grade players with a load of current experience.
The girls should be proud to have held up so well, because they were massive underdogs. And the boys should be proud that they really are this damn good. And it's awesome to see that Botan is still the fastest gun in Hololive.
True the boys were on a different level with their experience. Towa and Botan were the only ones with competitive experience on Team Hololive, knew IRyS was good at OW as well andd she did great as expected but was pleasantly surprised Chloe and Lui doing as well as they did.
in games like these it's just natural that guys are better. watch any top competitive gaming scene, almost 0 girls

@@noe4354 Except it wasn't a tigh-knit group of tournament grade players. Tight-knit group sure, but tournament grade players? Nah dude. The only ones on the team who play OW were Uyu and Bean, the rest are barely casual at best (Arunii) or almost complete beginners (Izr and Ast). Like if you watched Ast's pov when he played Widow you could see how he was literally just surviving off of his aim while being completely out of position, so much so if literally any one of the girls contested him he would lose but because none of them did he got to free hit them with no consequences.
To say nothing of the fact that at least 4/5 boys were playing while exhausted since it was Holostars Rust server Season 2 week and they were going really hard marathoning Rust, Uyu especially started the week off by streaming 26-28 hours straight and only stopping at the end to get food.
Also the boys only had one group practice stream, and IIRC only Uyu practiced solo once or twice.

Damn I wish they’d made the valorant tournament hololive vs holostars as well. Hopefully in the future. Also apex with all holostars and hololive all branch would be wild. Although the fans will probably find it offensive if they’re oshis are teamed with holostars and vice versa
valorant is kinda oooooof. It's not really possible to balance Astel (Ascendant) and Izuru(D1) plus these 2 grinds rank together. We also kinda saw a preview of it during that time when Astel and Izuru got queued against towa, nene, la+, and ayame in the beta for the team deathmatch patch. final score was about 30kills diff
I doubt Stars fans would be offended by them teaming up with Holomems. The Stars typically don't pander to fujoshis (the real rabid female fans that'd see the girls as a threat) like the male Niji tubers do.

I think Cover would never pass the opportunity for a sponsored team, so I guess they are stuck with OW2 for a while.

3 strong players in a team doesn't make a strong team, unless one of them has strong leadership. Astel surely can take the leadership mantle, but the problem might be uniting the other two as a team
Depends on whether Astel and Botan can come to an understanding on who calls shots, and whether Aqua will actually listen to any of them.
a better team would be Matsuri, Astel, and Towa where Matsuri shot calls, Astel just shoots anything that moves, and Towa backs both of them up.

Personally i think towa should have been the tank and Botan to take DPS. Putting Botan on tank totally kills off her potential to deal damage and Towa has good space recognition and does not tunnel vision, a fit for tank.
Lui and Irys damage dealing abilities are really subpar, botan can make all the space they would want but they cant do much with the space given.

Without Towa as an experienced Support and Botan to play to her main, they'd have lost WAY harder than they did. You simply can't make a push or mount a defensive line without a smart tank.

Fun tournament but they really need to copy how CR does their tournaments. They really need to get a coach to teach the girls because putting that burden on Towa alone results in this. I commend the talents for doing their best despite their super full schedule. Cover needs to clear the talents schedule for at least 5 days so they can focus on practicing otherwise the viewership is gonna remain low and they will NOT attract the eSports and serious fps viewers this way. Those fans want to watch either high level gameplay OR at least players who grind to reach a higher level of play. Otherwise they're just gonna keep their existing fanbase who let's be honest isn't really into fps and serious eSports. Super fun tournament but you can tell some of the girls were frustrated because they couldn't show what they practiced hard for because the last map was just an overwhelming tide coming at them which is props to the boys they have been playing fps for years and it shows. This result was with Astel having severe fps problems the first map btw

No. there were a lot of close calls, watch the stream. Collectively, Holostars's practice streams helped their team work A LOT compared to Hololive's team, so that was the deciding factor. Towa and Botan fared well against the cracked Astel and other other lesser general FPS players in the Holostars team. Although all of them pretty much have FPS experience

I enjoy Hololive as a whole, including Holostars. The games are great and it's enjoyable to witness the tournaments involving both groups.
However, (what follows is less significant)
As usual, Towa finds herself in a role that's quite demanding. She takes on the role of a Healer, supporting the Tank, supporting the rest of the team, and at the same time being the in-game leader (IGL). I understand her reasoning for choosing Healer over Tank/DPS. Nonetheless, it feels like handicapping herself rather than bolstering the team. Opting for Tank or DPS might have provided the team with a better advantage. Her performance as a Healer isn't lacking, but the team could benefit more from a different role for her.
The rationale is this: Chloe and Lui are relatively new to the game. While they possess skills, this is a tournament setting, not a scrimmage. Experience is paramount in a tournament. Hence, either Towa or Botan should have taken up a DPS role. If I had a say, Towa would be the Tank and Botan, the DPS. Either Lui or Chloe could be the Healer/DPS, as they demonstrate good game sense. Irys understands her role but lacks experience, leading to occasional positioning issues as a Healer. All she need is just more experience.
Amidst all of this, the central issue is hero selection. They invested heavily in countering opponents' heroes, losing sight of their own comfort picks. Botan's choice of DVa, while competent, didn't harmonize with the less experienced teammates, who struggled to match her level.
In simpler words, they couldn't keep up with Botan due to unfamiliarity with their roles (a fundamental aspect). Even if Botan secured a kill or executed an ultimate, the team couldn't back her up due to scattered positioning. Botan also tended to prioritize her individual gameplay (similar to Aqua), neglecting the importance of coordinated movement. If Botan had chosen a Tank who sticks with the team, like Orisa, Reinhardt, or Sigma, the DPS members could have survived better and focused on their targets, rather than falling to the enemy one by one. This is where Towa's strengths shine, which is why she might excel as the Tank, allowing Botan more freedom to secure kills as DPS. But perhaps Towa is just weary of being Overwatch's "Gibraltar" :p
Then again who cares, these are just nitpicks. As long everyone have fun.
They need to do this for Apex, but make it more balanced bc this was not balanced. Like have all the best Apex players like Towa, Aqua, Matsuri, Suisei, Laplus etc, even Bijou is apparently also very good at Apex so she can be a team leader. And they each pick 2 other beginner members to form a team, and let's see who can train their team the best. That would be balanced.
